You remind me so much of myself 5 months ago, such enthusiasm.. :)

Wot iz magpie? Iz it someting to eat?

Someone could whip out a static unit from one of the "Black Death" vultures, me thinks. Give it no stats, make it an air unit, with just rebase and recon. Vultures see better than crows :)

I use the Age of Empires II Eagle/Hawk as a replacement for the scout in the FF mod... Basically it has 2 movement and ignores movement costs of all terrain (since it's supposed to be a flying unit)... If someone was to color that sucker black, you'd have a passable Raven.

Storm: a Magpie is a corvin (member of the Raven family) that's the same size as a crow, but magpies have white patches on their wings and sides. Magpies are also infamous (even moreso than crows or ravens) for stealing shiny objects, which they hoard in their nests.

Lord of the Mods uses the AoK Eagle as a Crebain unit.

Yeah, I think we should move all the discussion over on the New member new ideas thread, the title suits its purpose :)

Good luck with unit making, I hope to see your work in the future.

I'm currently working on a crebain/crow/magpie unit for LOTM. I'm just editing the AoK Eagle smaller and coloring it black. Currently, I'm debating on whether to make it a single or multi-figure unit, or maybe even both for people to choose from.

We have lotsa magpies in australia. we even have several Aussie footy teams called the magpies. we don't like these teams (Collingwood in the AFL, Port Adelaide in the SANFL - which is the South Australian league)

anyway, back on topic, i think that - if its not too much trouble - you should do two versions :)

Aussie Football, thats the one which is more physical but has less protective gear, right?

@ goldflash:  yeah

The attachment is an action shot of a game between the Essendon Bombers and the Collingwood Magpies. The Magpies are the black and white striped ones. The player is Nathan Buckley, or as he is known in my household, FIGJAM (F@#K I'm Good, Just Ask Me). we don't like him.

ps. sorry for hi-jacking this thread :D

Yeah, when I was stationed in Japan, I used to watch the occassional rugby game on the AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio and Television Service) Sports channel... It was interesting. American Football and Rugby are very similar (Am Football is actually a mutated version of Rugby), but with a couple of fairly big rules differences (i.e. Am football has definite possession of the ball, and allows forward passes, but rugby doesn't). As a matter of fact, when the ship I was on at the time went to Brisbane, the Morale officer managed to buy a bunch of tickets for a game between the Brisbane Boars and some other team (can't remember which), but I couldn't go due to the fact I had duty the first day we were in port (duty basically means that 1/3 of the crew remains on board to stand watch and respond in case of fire, flooding, or terrorist attack)....

Anyways enough OT.... I too would be interested in seeing the final version, Olorin.

Heh, have fun during bike week next month, Weasel. No, seriosuly, do. Find whatever bar it is that has Microwave Dave and the Nukes playing and go listen to 'em. They're PHENOMINAL. Microwave Dave.. oh goodness... can do such amazing things with his gitaur.. He even has one thats made out of an old cigar box and a pair of rusty old wires, just like the original blue folk made because they had no money. And it sounds awesome.

Also, which university is it? Is it that one.. crap... the flying one? I can't remeber the name. But if you're going to flight school there you earn bonus points.

 yeah... that one. Embry-Riddle. But I'm not flying. I'm a software engineer.

Anyway, back at the ranch.... I wasn't aware that Olorin was working on a recolored version. That should work nicely for any kind of black bird. Kinboat also made 2 different sizes of eagles that could be recolored if you want it to be huge. In LotM, we currently have Crebain (AoK eagle), Eagle (Kinboat's eagle), and Eagle of the West (Kinboat's giant eagle), which all look similar. So it will be nice to have a black one.

(back on topic for a moment, sorry to interupt):mischief:
if possible, could the crow move faster?...the eagles all have "graceful" wing flapping motions...Crows are much more rapid...

also, if there end up being variants, I could also use a swallow...

It's easy to change the frame rate- just open it in C3FE, move the slider, and save it. :)

Thanks; I knew if I just misquoted what I vaguely remembered there would be plenty of people around to mispell more accurate sounding quotes. When the simple allusion was enough in the first place anyway. (@Quinzy: quotient 187 by the way).
