View Full Version : UN: Civilization Choices
Ginger_Ale Feb 16, 2006, 08:05 PM Official Game Poll
Instructions: Anyone can and should start a thread in their team forum with this discussion so they can discuss among themselves. Please do the following:
Decide on your top 5 LEADERS you would like to be. Order them #1 through #5, your first choice you would like to be as #1. Then, PM that list to BOTH Ginger_Ale and RegentMan.
Discuss what leaders/civilizations you think will work best, and the pros/cons of each choice. This discussion will end no sooner than next Wednesday, though I understand it will take a while, so we're pretty lenient. At that time or earlier, submit your list to RM and I. We'll assign leaders to teams based on that (ie; if one team is the only team with a certain lead as their first choice, they'll get it - if two have it, we use a random number generator, etc.). We hope to get you your first choice, but we can't guarantee anything.
PS: This is one of the last major discussions you guys will have as a team before the game will start...possibly the ruleset discussion too, but that will be last, and not before the next patch comes out soon.
Tubby Rower Feb 17, 2006, 06:03 AM Piffle would like these civs
1. Iroquois
2. Sumeria
3. Babylon
4. Portugal
5. Mayans
Oh wait... this is civ4... :)
Ginger_Ale Feb 17, 2006, 06:08 AM Come on, let's leave this thread alone except for questions people honestly have. You shouldn't even post your Civ list - PM it to us.
Tubby Rower Feb 17, 2006, 06:10 AM Ok.. real question.
Do you want civs or leaders? We were deciding on leaders but it might make a difference if we know that there is a 50% chance of getting the crappy leader.
Ginger_Ale Feb 17, 2006, 06:22 AM Yes, my bad. Thanks for actually bringing that up, since it's different with Civ4 - leaders, not civs.
Swissempire Feb 17, 2006, 05:42 PM Question: Can to teams be the same civ if the each choose a different leader of that, Like a Louis XIV and a Napoleon?
Robi D Feb 17, 2006, 05:53 PM Question: Can to teams be the same civ if the each choose a different leader of that, Like a Louis XIV and a Napoleon?
I was going to ask that one too, since when setting up the game you can have both leader from one civ playing
Ginger_Ale Feb 17, 2006, 05:58 PM I would prefer not, it takes some of the fun out of it, if all 5 teams were the same civ...
Swissempire Feb 17, 2006, 06:00 PM I din't mean that.... because no civ has five leaders.... It was just a question.... so is i perfer not a no?
Ginger_Ale Feb 19, 2006, 05:37 PM Just updating the teams on the progress:
Team Piffle and Innovia (2/5) have submited their list. Team Loco [Delta], Aloha [Alpha], and Epsilon (3/5) still have to.
This is the last major step before the rulest. :D
robboo Feb 19, 2006, 08:07 PM GA..I gave our team till next Wednesday as per your first post. If there is any "tie" in our system,( which you have read) then it will be Friday of next week. IF that is too late let me know here or in our Civ selection thread. I dont want to the team to hold us up.
Memphus Feb 20, 2006, 03:57 PM Once all teams have submitted their top 5 choice selections and the teams have been chosen, will we get to see everyone's list?
--> I am takign a stab at my question and saying no since otherwise it would be posted and not done through PM, but on the other hand maybe that was to just even the playing field for the initial discussion :crazyeye:
Ginger_Ale Feb 20, 2006, 04:53 PM The reason for PMs is really for privacy and to prevent other teams from making their decisions based on other teams' lists. I guess we could say which teams wanted which civs...I hadn't really thought about it.
Memphus Feb 20, 2006, 05:02 PM The reason I ask after the fact is more for personal observation, specifically if one trait was a favorite among all the teams. And Yes I would only want to know after the fact, but assume all teams migth have to commit to allowign the information to be shown.
DaveMcW Feb 20, 2006, 05:14 PM I would be worried about the team that picked 5 aggressive leaders... :mischief:
peter grimes Feb 21, 2006, 09:50 AM Question for Ginger_Ale or RegentMan:
Will there be any preference given, in the event of a tie, to the team that submitted their list earlier? I would expect not, but we should all be aware if that's a possibility.
classical_hero Feb 21, 2006, 10:08 AM Team without a name (aka, Epsilon) has decided on a list.
Whomp Feb 21, 2006, 12:09 PM I would be worried about the team that picked 5 aggressive leaders... :mischief: Aggressive and Romans.
@GA--I don't think any of the teams 5 civs should be disclosed. This may give away strategy info that each team has developed pre-game.
Ginger_Ale Feb 21, 2006, 03:59 PM peter: No, it is pure randomly decided.
Whomp: I think the biggest thing that will give away strategy is their FIRST civ choice - adding the other 4 will not affect much, since they will probably be similar to the first choice. Anyway, we'll decide this later...
Sirian Feb 21, 2006, 06:40 PM I would be worried about the team that picked 5 aggressive leaders... :mischief:
Nah. I'll stick them on a small island with Tubby's team, give them Iron, Copper, and Horses, give Tubby's team lots and LOTS of Incense, and then put the rest of you on the other continent with a reasonable spread.
Or if it's Tubby's team that is the 5-aggressive bunch, then it's back to the ice for them. :satan:
:joke:
Hey, after the game starts, am I allowed to keep cracking jokes? (Say yes, or it's the ice for you!)
- Sirian
Tubby Rower Feb 21, 2006, 07:18 PM Since we're in the ice anyway..... NO!!!
Sirian Feb 21, 2006, 08:06 PM Since we're in the ice anyway..... NO!!!
Yeah, yeah. Leave it up to a good civ player to find the exploit in the rules in the first hour. :p
Tubby Rower Feb 21, 2006, 08:10 PM good civ player I know that you aren't speaking about me..... [/threadjack]
classical_hero Feb 22, 2006, 05:43 AM The more we can get Sirian to think that Team Piffle is bad, the beetter for the rest of us. I have some secret knowledge that you might lik to know about. :mischief:

I can't believe this. Just becuase we love Sirian, it's held against us.
I can think of no other forum where the ability to recognize brilliance and segacity is discriminated aginst.
Just becuase we, at Team Piffle have the ability recognize that Sirian is a god among men, should we be criticised for that insight?
What kind of world do we live in when the above is true? An unjust, cold, dark world. A world so cold and dark it will only find light and warmth when the Sirian the Great shows us how the would should look when he creates it. Who am I to speak on this, but I can only imagine Sirian's world would be full of resource rich, easily defendable peninsulas for those that recognize that is how is should be...
(How am I doing Tubby?)

(How am I doing Tubby?)Spoken like a true Piffalien Bootilicous. You slay me!!! May we all :worship: our maker Sirian. May he bring a Piffalien land full of rich resources and easily defendable peninsulas.
Bengeance Feb 22, 2006, 11:17 AM I've got a quick question. Will the teams know who each team is playing as at the beginning of the game or only when they meet in game?
Sirian Feb 22, 2006, 02:42 PM I can only imagine Sirian's world would be full of resource rich, easily defendable peninsulas for those that recognize that is how is should be...
Yes, the land of milk and honey. Something like this:

Whomp Feb 22, 2006, 02:54 PM I've got a quick question. Will the teams know who each team is playing as at the beginning of the game or only when they meet in game? In the civ3 MTDG we all knew who was who in advance.
We didn't know who was on each continent.

That's exactly what Tubs and Boots were talking about. Two defensible chokes, a little stone, some game and furs to keep us warm on that icy ledge. Thanks oh masterful one.
Ginger_Ale Feb 22, 2006, 03:32 PM I've got a quick question. Will the teams know who each team is playing as at the beginning of the game or only when they meet in game?
I'm not sure if it is available in-game in Civ4, but I know it was in Civ3. We'll probably inform the others teams, though, about who each team is, unless you guys have any strong objections...

It would be if teams change their in-game civ name (IE piffaliens or sumpin) through the top 5 cities.
Ginger_Ale Feb 23, 2006, 02:44 PM Yeah, we should put up another discussion for custom name/adjectives too...will do that soon.
robboo Feb 23, 2006, 03:40 PM Team Aloha sent civ names to admins...
DaveShack Feb 28, 2006, 09:18 AM Have all the choices been received? Is there enough info to assign leaders? We could be making progress on initial strategy discussions if we knew the leader assignments.
Ginger_Ale Feb 28, 2006, 05:06 PM We're just waiting on Delta...I'll contact them, based on what I've read in their forum, they are pretty much done, if not fully.
