A while ago I got this maxtor 300GB external harddrive which i connect to my computer by ethernet cable through a router. Thing is when I first installed it everything worked fine, I could access it, write on it and everything. Suddenly after having turned the power of while I was visiting somewhere else I just coulndt access it anymore! I didnt change anything, just turned the power of for half a day! The error message I get is 'network path not found'. Ive tried their customer support but it simply doesnt exist.

I realize posting the problem here is a far shot, but hey, sometimes you get lucky.

So, if anyone have had similiar problems and got a fix please let me know because Im out of space and starting to get real pissed :p .

It sounds like windows can't find it on the 'network' anymore. Can you find it via network neighborhood at all? It might be that windows has mapped it to a different drive letter.

Nopes, it's nowhere to be seen.

I have one and it works fine for me. I think it had some issues with the software, so I just uninstalled it. It works well without it.

go to my network places and try mapping the drive again. if of course you know how to do that

Well, atleast now I can access it and its in the same work group as my main computer, I think. But I still can't make an icon for it in My Computer, it won't recognize neither its name nor IP address when I choose Tools<Connect Network Unit (roughly translated). Instead I have a shortcut to it on the desktop... .

EDIT: Remains to be seen if it can actually be used properly.

EDIT2: Added a folder rather than the drive itself and now it seems to work just as it should. Thanks a lot for the replies, they gave me the strenght to continou trying!

 Closed down the power again, and again i have the same problem, seems I have to have everything constantly running for it to work, as soon as I close things down the network paths disappear.

Can't even remember what I did to make it work last time, damnit.

OK; now I know what the problem is. Every time I turn of and then restart the external drive it creates a new network group called 'unknown' instead of placing itself in the network group I have instructed it to be in (the same where my main computer is).

Help? :D
