This is a preview for my first leaderhead: King Thar for my D&D/Mystara Mod. I'm not too happy with the crown but I think it's the best I could find. I might still try to mess with the textures though. Is it too dark? Should I lighten his skin? Hope everyone likes it.:)

Are you remaking tjedge's mod?

This leaderhead looks great, I agree with you on the crown, i recognize the model.

Reminds me of my brother.HA

Roman does your brother have green skin, a pig's nose, and tusklike teeth? If not than how does he resemble Grandaem's pretty darn good leaderhead?

Roman Legion

why yes he does.

he must be adopted..;)

yeah the Gommorian Guard I think thats it.

It looks really good. I think it is perhaps a bit dark - maybe try a bit of lighting from below, as if there's a forge in front of him?

What exactly is it supposed to be anyways????

The face is outstanding, the only weak point is the crown - and perhaps just a little more light. But I'm sure I'll be adopting this one!

Very nice. Good work! The skin looks fine to me.

Yeah, I aggree that the crown should go.... There are several free skullcap type helmets available (the one I used for my Orc LH was actually Utahjazz7's Russian helmet for the PDM, but with a transparent texture applied to the spike/noseguard on the front to hide it), as well as some free Horns you can get (there is a pack available from renderosity free section for transforming AIko 3 into a Minotaur/Unicorn type person that has a nice pair of horns you could add to the helmet)......

Other than that, it looks great.

Thanks for the replies everyone.:)

Sword_of_Geddon - I'm not remaking tjedge's mod. Same world and game system but this is a personal mod I started years ago. I've just taken a really, really, really long time getting going on it.

Roman Legion - It's an orc king from the broken lands in the Dungeons and Dragons world of Mystara. There are other excellent orc leaderheads out there (including Hikaro's recent one) but I really wanted this one to have some of the specific look I wanted for King Thar.

Hikaro Takayama - I never thought of applying transparent texture to nose pieces of helmets. Great idea. There were some helmets I thought were ok but I didn't like nose pieces and stuff. Thanks. What's 'the PDM' you mentioned?

Everyone - Once again thanks. As for the skin, I'll try some different lighting and I think it's pretty much agreed that the crown must go.

One last thing, there will be another version of this leaderhead made after this for Stormrage with no hair or headpiece. When I'm done this version Stormrage, you can start making suggestions in this thread towards changes in him and/or his background.

PDM = Kinboat's Paper Doll Man...

UtahJazz7 made some props and clothing for said figure (including the russian helmet I mentioned)

HMM, If someone was making Gummorian civ on a SW Scenario, this would be an easy conversion.

I did take everyone's views into consideration. However, after looking through many helmets and crowns I decided to stay with the same crown, just darkening it slightly and removing the jewels. The reason I did this is because I really wanted him preferably with a crown instead of a helmet for my mod, and no other crowns came as close to the one in the picture I based the leaderhead on (to see this picture go to the D&D Mystara Mod thread I started, where I have the first preview comparison). I hope everyone understands.:( As I said above, there will be another version of this leaderhead without crown and hair I'm making for Stormrage.

I intensified the lighting slightly to help his skin show a little better.

I think this will be the final look, as I have already started animating him.

I like it! :goodjob: So we`ll have 4 Ork LH`s? (Lotr version, Hikaro`s and your evil twins) Who would`ve thought that a couple of months ago!

Hikaro Takayama
Feb 19, 2006, 08:54 PM
Yeah, now all we need are some Gnomes, a few more dwarves (although we do have ED's dwarf, Kinboat's Chaos Dwarf and Zulu's Dwarf Lord), maybe a couple more goblins, and we'll have pretty much all of the Fantasy LH we'll ever need... For some reason, my Tarutaru LH and Elvaan LH get ignored...

Speaking of which, Grandraem, I was wondering if you could use the Star Sybil LH I made for the FF mod for one of your Halfling, Gnome or Kender factions?

Stormrage
Feb 19, 2006, 08:57 PM
There is another dwarf, the one with the horned helmet, but its not top-notch like those three.

FF like Elves don`t really fit in other fantasy mods, most fantasy themes aren`t that cute like FF ones ;) I think this explains the Tarutaru too.

Actually "FF like elves" are the standard Japanese depiction of Elves (particularly in Anime)... I mean the Elves in the anime series Those Who Hunt ELves (or エルフを狩者たち as the original Japanese version was called), the Elves in the Legend of Zelda series, Phantasy Star Online Elves, The one Elfy race in Star Ocean, and the Elf-like Raalgons in the series The Irresposible Captain Tyler all were drawn along the same lines....

Stormrage

yeah, but my main contact with anime was FF, so I call them FF elves :)

I only have one halfling civ, and no gnome or kender, and the leader of the halfling civ is male, so unfortunately I can't use it.

Stormrage - now that this one is gonna get rendered, feel free to use this thread to post changes you'd like to the orc for your version (skin colour, background, facial features, clothing, accessories etc). Also, I know you said to look at your avatar for some idea of how it should look, but if you could, a bigger pic and some other pics would help as well. As soon as I can after that, I'll get right on posting some previews for you to check out.:)

Oh the LH is great as it is, I`d just like him to be bald like Grimgor (Avatar).
One thing I`d change are the ears, WH orks often get their ears bitten off in battle or something, so they cut them short, like the ones in my avatar, and if you could put them a bit higher would be nice. I`ll dig for a better pic.

Edit: If you can make him look like one of these guys, that would be awesome :D

:thanx:

Edit: Some of their features that are not like in your LH are: smaller, evil red eyes, actaully the whole upper face is smaller, the cheek bones are narrower, the nose is smaller, and the part bellow the nose, the upper lipp is somewhat ape like. And the before mentioned ears. And the "eyebrow" bones, can`t remember the english word for it now, are more, um..er.. fronted? You know what I mean. I included the pic where they wear those kewl black ork helms, just in case you have a prop like that.

I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure if I can shrink the upper face or extend the lower face any. I'm working with Michael 3 and I stretched him quite a bit to the believable limit for this one, but I'll see what I can manage. I don't have a helmet like that one, but I'll see what I have for you. Hopefully I'll have some previews for you by the weekend. His skin looks greener in the pics than I've used for Thar, do you want me to make the leaderhead skin greener?

Stormrage
Feb 20, 2006, 11:54 AM
Maybe just a little bit :) Thanks Grandraem! Woot!

Edit: .......Thats... Michael!?! First he goes white, then the nose thing and now this...

He looks fantastic, but the crown definitely needs to go. Does he need a helmet at all even if he is King?

There will be another version of him, without the crown.

Grandraem

Here's the first preview. What do you think? The preview pic looks darker for some reason than it appears on my photoshop or poser render screen. There were some changes I couldn't make such as shrinking his chin like in your pic because if I do the bottom teeth poke through the skin.
The clothing isn't final unless you say it is.
About the background, do you have a particular pic you'd like to use or should I show you some examples first?

Stormrage

....... no words....... well, maybe perfect... no... whats above perfection?...
Impressed... must sitt down... oh, I am sitting... I can`t feel my legs.. Thank you so much Grandraem, you just made me very happy :)

I suggest when you post the finished version you put this picture, next to the unmodded Michael 3 picture.. I think that will say everything about your talent :)

Please show me some examples of the backrounds. :)

Whenever you have the time! Thanks :)

Btw, this was my first request, about 6 months ago:
Make a new leaderhed for the orcs, he is cool, but I think the orc leader should be a black orc? You know, a big, pissed off, drooling, drunken pile of muscles, a green, mean killing machine? Instead we have a scrawny (is this the right word?), skinny looking gray dude with missmatched eyes, great for LOTR, not so great for WH.
You did an awesome job :goodjob:

Oh, so my orc wasn't mean or green enough, eh? :p

Still, nice to see more orc LHs out there... Right now the count is up to 3 (Sween32's LoTR orc, my FF/Warcraft/generic orc and Grandraem's King Thar), and once Stormrage's orc is done, that will bring the total up to 4.

Once I get theif done, there will be 5 elven LH (Sween 32' LoTR woodelf, Embryodead's High elf, Civ Army S' Comanthir elf, my Prince Trion I of San d'Oria from FF IX, and Thief Clan Khee'Bler from FFI/8-bit Theater)

We still need more gobbos (there's only the one done by Kinboat right now), maybe another dwarf or two (right now we have one by Kindred72? (at least it looks like his dwarf knight), Embryodead's dwarf, Zulu's Dwarf and Kinboat's Chaos Dwarf), some Gnomes (which I will try to do sometime soon), and more halflings/kender (the only ones we have are the Samwise Gamgee one that I think was done by Sween 32, and if you want to stretch it a bit, the Star Sybil Tarutaru LH I did for the FF mod).

No offense Hikaro, your leaderhead is sweet, I`d much rather see him in the FF mod than Grimgor, LOTR boy or king Thar, but if you compare him with the pics I presented, you`ll see Grandraem got the basic "feel" of what we need much better :)

BTW, my first request was sent to R8XFT, to finish his ork LH (that still might happen, so we`ll have 5 :D)

If anyone is interested - the story of Grimgor Ironhide. (http://uk.games-workshop.com/orcsandgoblins/grimgor/1/)

Well, I like the last three, the rocks, the stormy sky and the sunset, I kinda think of orks as outdoors guys, more room to swing the ol` axe :)

From there on, I eliminate the rocks cos I think the sky pics look better.

So, the sunset brings out the red in his eye :), but judging by my nickname, I must be somesort of a guy who likes storms... The sunset, or sunrise, whatever, looks a bit too romantic, and a storm describes the Ork moods perfectly :)
So I pick the stormy sky!

I added the background. I looked briefly through my clothing and armour, but decided to keep him wearing what he was, if that's ok? I animated him already, hoping that it would be. It rendered last night, so I just have to work on PCXs, which shouldn't take too long. By days end he should be posted.:) Like Thar, I couldn't really give him a 'Happy' expression, mostly because of the lack of movement to his mouth that his teeth allowed (his teeth keep wanting to poke through his lower lip or sink into his upper), but also for the fact that a happy expression wouldn't look too fitting to a tough, mean orc.;)

Would the Star Sybil LH I made for Windhurst work for the female Kender? (I'm actually thinking about re-doing that LH, due to the fact that I've recently learned a few new techniques with Poser that would make her look more like a tarutaru.....

Next I want to give a shot at my favourite D&D human (well, Immortal and Human) character, Prince Etienne d'Amberville. He's an old wizard from the Principalities of Glantri.
