If you are leaving for any period of time :( you are free to post here stating when you'll return so others will know and handle any dulties you may have :)
gbno1fan Mar 24, 2006, 07:50 AM Heading to Indianapolis this weekend to visit my best friend. Not sure how much I'll be able to connect to the internet.
Leaving tonight around 6:30 CST (1230 GMT?), and will return on Sunday sometime.
classical_hero Mar 27, 2006, 05:23 AM I am busy with work so my times will be down a bit.
lost_civantares Apr 11, 2006, 09:24 PM I'll be with family in Oregon from the 14th to the 21st of April. (ie this friday through to the next friday).
Edit: It turns out that I have internet access, So I will be able to be with the team for at least a little bit (see below).
lost_civantares Apr 16, 2006, 04:09 PM Due to a change in that horrid thing known as real life , I will have to be reduced to lurker status! NOOOOO! (enter multiple cries of dismay). Needless to say I am very frustrated with life, but hopefully I will be able to check in occasionally. I'm really sorry about backing out like this, I did not expect it when I signed up, but it happened, and life has not been fun right now. Again I feel really bad about backing out right in the beginning of the game.
fe3333au Apr 17, 2006, 04:04 AM Don't concern yourself, RL has a habit of making things 'interesting' in a chinese sense ... say hello when you visit :wavey:
and you never know your RL situation may bounce back :D
lost_civantares Apr 17, 2006, 11:56 PM We hope. :(
classical_hero Apr 18, 2006, 08:19 AM I am extremely busy at work. Things will remain this way unti we hire some more people and that won't be until next month so I will be away for awhile.
Kylearan Apr 19, 2006, 01:24 PM Hi,
unfortunately RL has become crazy for me as well - of course exactly when the new patch has finally arrived, RB started Epic 2, the MTDG has finally begun, ...
I'll be able to read this forum only occasionally for some time, but I hope I can contribute at least a little bit nonetheless. I hope things will return to normal in a few weeks.
-Kylearan
TheDivide Apr 19, 2006, 10:43 PM I am here...but not here...so for being absent. Working way too many hours and trying to look for a house...it's been a little rough around the edges...I'm still checking in off and on...and if any of you need to know what to do in the early years of the game...I'm quite handy at that...later game I fall apart but I got the early game mastered. Drop me a line...be happy to answer such and such...off for now...will return to conquer the world soon.
gbno1fan Apr 27, 2006, 11:12 AM I will be unavailable from the time I go to bed tonight (about 12 hours from now, probably) until Sunday afternoon.
I'm going camping at Mammoth Cave National Park. It's time for a guys' weekend out. :)
azzaman333 May 09, 2006, 04:29 AM 2 things.
Im getting a lot of homework, and its midyear exams in 2 weeks.
Im getting very addicted to counter strike source.
Expect my participation to be lowered.
lost_civantares May 09, 2006, 08:09 PM Time for some good news!
I'm back, and hopefully it should be permament! (though I can make no promises, if I drop off the face of the earth suddenly, you'll know what happened to me).
classical_hero May 10, 2006, 07:11 AM I am putting myself on lurker status.
Kentharu May 12, 2006, 06:26 AM im gonna be lurkerish/unable to post a lot for about 4 weeks
basically until i have summer
DaveMcW May 23, 2006, 10:35 PM I'm going on vacation next week, I will be away May 27-31.
General_W May 24, 2006, 11:54 AM We'll miss you Mr. President! :salute:
Have a great vacation!
Are you going to appoint a replacement? Or leave it up to the Domestic Minister (as per the Chain of Command?)
- If the President is unexpectedly absent, and has not had a chance to appoint a replacement, the following Chain-of-Command will activate:

Any citizen should post notice in the UN "Turn Tracker" thread that our team may need a time extension.

Chief Domestic Officer plays the save if around and able to play
3 hours until the turn deadline with no word from the President:
Secretary General of Defense plays the save if around and able to play
2 hours until the turn deadline with no word from the President:
Chief Foreign Minister plays the save if around and able to play
OR
Provost plays the save
OR
The UN ambassador plays the save

Any citizen may play the save.
DaveMcW May 24, 2006, 12:01 PM Please nominate yourself if you are interested in being a replacement! :)
peter grimes May 24, 2006, 12:49 PM Peter Grimes will be M.I.A. from Friday morning until Monday morning. Gone to the Catskills :)
General_W May 24, 2006, 03:56 PM Boy... I'm suddenly feeling like I need a vacation!
Have fun Peter!
I hope Memphus will nominate himself to take over - if that's what the President is looking for.
As Domestic Minister, he's already in the thick of things, and would do a great job, I have no doubt.
Memphus May 24, 2006, 05:51 PM Please nominate yourself if you are interested in being a replacement! :)
I guess we don't really have a thread for it.
But if the President Accepts I will play and Forward all saves during his absence. :)
fe3333au May 25, 2006, 12:15 AM Enjoy your holidays guys :D
DaveMcW May 31, 2006, 07:27 PM I'm back, thanks Memphus for keeping everything running!
Memphus Jun 19, 2006, 12:37 PM Hi All ~
Some of you may know, but for those that don't I am gettign married this Saturday :) .... or is it more :whipped: :spank: ?
In any event The Following Week I will be away for my honeymoon, and although I will try to get to a computer I may not.
Furthermore this week is a little bit hectic so I might not be as active as usual. :(
So my dead dates are: June 21-28th
In this Light I have posted 2 turn orders in the official thread, but DaveMcW I have done 4 turns in the Office od Domestic Poliy turn orders if the game goes that fast. In the event of any changes DaveMcW the choice is yours. :goodjob:
Be back soon
Kylearan Jun 19, 2006, 12:46 PM Hi,
Some of you may know, but for those that don't I am gettign married this Saturday
Have fun! :) I know I had a lot on my wedding day. :goodjob:
And enjoy you honeymoon, too! You should try to resist the urge to get to a computer. Instead, make the best out of that week - CIV will still be there afterwards, but you probably won't get a second honeymoon. :D
-Kylearan
lost_civantares Jun 19, 2006, 12:56 PM Have a great time!
It's kind of ironic that I will be working the audio/visual equipment for a wedding too this Saturday. :crazyeye:
General_W Jun 19, 2006, 04:00 PM Have a great time Memphus - and congratulations!
Don't worry about Civ on your honeymoon - we'll be here waiting for you when you get back ;)
classical_hero Jun 20, 2006, 04:29 AM Can we have pics? ;) Just kidding.
Enjoy yourself and do not worry too much because we are in safe hands.
Memphus Jun 30, 2006, 09:14 AM Hello all ~
I am back!! :)
lost_civantares Jun 30, 2006, 09:29 AM How was the wedding?
Memphus Jun 30, 2006, 12:26 PM How was the wedding?
It was great, we had some rain which is good luck, and then the sun came back out again
Honeymoon was awsome and now i am ready to refocus my priorities...to [civ4] ;)
General_W Jul 02, 2006, 12:07 AM Glad to hear you had a good wedding and great honeymoon!
My wife and I are moving this weekend to a new home – it’s a great place out in the country. The downside is they don’t have cable or DSL internet available out that far yet. We’re looking into other options – but for the near future, I’m going to be without internet at my house.
It’s still the slow season at work, so I’ll be checking in while at the office – but accessing the save is going to be a problem. Our computers at my office don’t have CD burners or even floppy drives –and installing Civ4 at work would be a no-no… so I haven’t figured out how I’m going to get the save files home and look at them.
Is anyone interested in temporarily taking over the foreign office? Even if someone is just willing to provide me with the required screenshots, I can keep updating the foreign threads from work.
However, and I’ll re-announce this later – I’ll also be leaving on vacation from July the 7th through the 14th – at the lake- with no internet at all.
So July is going to be a rough month for my MTDG Civing.
Good news is that by late July, I’ll be out of vacation time and should have some form of internet hooked up at home.
Hopefully I won’t miss first-contact with another civ!
Anyone interested in taking over (or providing screenshots) while I get my internet sorted out/go on vacation?
Let me know!
Thanks!
:salute:
lost_civantares Jul 03, 2006, 10:53 AM Probably non-helpdul, but it's an idea, can you just get a cheep usb hard drive from some place like costco or walmart?
General_W Jul 03, 2006, 12:43 PM That's a thought – I briefly considered something like that, but I'm hoping I'll just get some kind of internet (even if it's slow) hooked up soon and avoid the need to purchase some hardware I don't really need.
Especially since I'm going to the lake this Friday – and probably won't have access no matter what.
I'll be looking into some alternate internet ideas this afternoon – so I'll keep you all posted!
Thanks for the idea though, LostCiv! :)
peter grimes Jul 04, 2006, 02:20 PM I'm leaving tomorrow or Thursday for New Hampshire. I'll be up there until the very beginning of August. I have internet access, but every moment I spend on the Internets is a moment I'm not in the woods or on the water. I'll be around, but minimally :)
fe3333au Jul 12, 2006, 02:03 AM Due to an oscillating health scenario :crazyeye: and the lack of a computer capable of running cIV :( ... I will become an occasional lurker.
Good luck guys :salute:
General_W Jul 16, 2006, 12:08 AM Hey – I’m back and have a temporary internet solution up and running at home.
I probably won’t get time to look at the saves and update my department for a day or two, but I’ll jump on it as soon as possible!
:salute:
DaveMcW Jul 31, 2006, 08:47 PM I will be away this weekend, from August 4-7. That leaves Memphus in charge of playing by default, but I welcome other volunteers in case he is busy. :)
Memphus Jul 31, 2006, 08:51 PM I will be away this weekend, from August 4-7. That leaves Memphus in charge of playing by default, but I welcome other volunteers in case he is busy. :)
I am around ;)
Yes finally Now i can do exactly As I want  ... oh wait... the team already said that the CS slingshot was a go :p
have a good trip DaveMcW
Hopefully we'll learn math from a hut while you are gone :)
peter grimes Jul 31, 2006, 09:50 PM Officially, I am back. Have a great time, DaveMcW!
Memphus Aug 31, 2006, 10:13 PM I may or may not have computer access from Saturday to Monday as I will be away, but I think the current orders are pretty clear.
As far as the interteam pitboss if I get the save even early saturday morning I will check and play to pass it along :)
lost_civantares Sep 01, 2006, 11:49 AM I think you mean PBEM? ;)
So how has married life worked out for you?
Memphus Sep 01, 2006, 06:15 PM I think you mean PBEM? ;)
So how has married life worked out for you?
I did
Married life is good so far, but i will update after six months  :mischief:
azzaman333 Jan 30, 2007, 06:22 AM My laptop has been sent away for repair, so I can't be active for at least a day.
classical_hero Mar 28, 2007, 08:08 AM Things are busy for me right now, so I will not be able to do much until the weekend.
classical_hero Apr 04, 2007, 08:27 AM I won't be in tommorrow. See here for the reason why http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5284520&postcount=62
This is for my kidneys.
peter grimes Apr 04, 2007, 08:53 AM Wow
I hope everything goes well (in the long run, I mean). Biopsies are pretty run-of-the-mill, these days, thankfully. :)
gbno1fan Apr 04, 2007, 10:08 AM I hope it all goes well, too. You're in my thoughts and prayers, classical.
General_W Apr 04, 2007, 03:43 PM All the best to you C_H - let us know how it comes out.
classical_hero Apr 05, 2007, 08:50 AM I am doing fine. I have some pain, but that is to be expected. The biopsy went quite well, although towards the end of itt, I was feeling quite faint, since I had not eaten since about 6:45 the previous night and the Biopsy was done at lunch time today, so naturally I had lost a bit of energy by the end of it. I was alright once I got some OJ into me. Apparently I had turned quite white and I got the colour back once something had gone into my stomach. I was very glad to eat lunch that they gave me. I will find out the results sometime next week. It is good that I have the Easter weekend to recover from it., otherwise I would have had to take the next day off as well. But to put things into perspective, I am sure that the pain that I went through was nothing compared to what G_W's wife went trough while giving birth to Evangeline, that is of course, if sh wasn't heavily medicated.
peter grimes Apr 05, 2007, 10:32 AM Thanks for the update :goodjob:
classical_hero Apr 11, 2007, 09:57 AM Sorry for the unannounced absence. I have been having pains in the area of the biopsy and it has been causing me some problems.
classical_hero Apr 22, 2007, 12:10 AM I am sick right now, unrelated to my kidney problems, so I will be out for a few days, also before that I was quite busy with work.
General_W May 15, 2007, 02:04 PM Hey everyone - I've got some sad news - my two month old daughter started having seizures and we're in the hopspital with her right now (They've got a computer here I can use).
Anyway, I'm pretty much going to be unavalible untill everything gets sorted out. So far, we've had really good news - there's nothing seriously wrong, but they're going to do some more tests, start her on some medication, and observe her for a few days. We've got an MRI scheduled for this afternoon.
Anyway - my wife and I would really appreciate any prayers.
As I was checking my e-mail, I noticed this note from Piffle - could someone else please take over responding till life gets more normal for us?
Thanks!
I hope to have a report of good news in a day or two.
- General_W, aka Josh
Any word on the Aloha boat? We offered them Printing Press, which they approached us about, for a lump sum of gold, which we are negotiating. We are in favor of this deal since they will have that much less to upgrade their troops with. However I believe we need your approval for the deal.
KC
peter grimes May 15, 2007, 09:18 PM Dont' worry about us, Josh, we'll muddle on just fine without you.
Our thoughts are with you and your wife and your daughter :)
Memphus May 15, 2007, 09:26 PM :agree:
Josh please let this be the furthest thing from your mind.
We will be able to handle this. And when everything goes well for your daughter, we will all be excited for you :)
My prayers will be with you & your family tonight.
General_W May 20, 2007, 07:59 PM Thanks Peter and Memphus :)
I've got a quick update on the situation with my daughter.
Unfortunately, things haven't quite gone like we've hoped. The medication is helping with the seizures, but hasn't completely stopped them. The doctors aren't sure why. So they're keeping her in the hospital for more tests till they can figgure out what's going on.
Fortunately, we've got lots of support from friends, family, and our church - and we're working with some really excellent doctors and neurologists with great reputations.
I've used up most of my leave time from work, so we've worked out a shift schedule with my family to make sure someone is always here with my daughter while my wife and I try to get some more sleep and I get back to work.
Since I'll be back at work, I'll have more time to post off-and-on, but you've all been really kind, so I wanted to make sure I was keeping you in the loop on what's going on.
I didn't expect anything more than just a fun game when I joined the CFC community, and I have to say I'm really glad to have made some good friends here. Thank you for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.
- Josh
classical_hero May 21, 2007, 09:29 AM That is very serious. My prayers are with you Josh and you whole family.
General_W May 29, 2007, 03:46 PM Just by way of update – things are going much better! Thanks to all that prayed, and thanks for the understanding from everyone.
Evangeline is home, the medication seems to be working well, and we're finally getting caught back up on our sleep :)
I'll be more active here from now on, but I'm thinking about really scaling back my foreign updates, as the international scene seems to be pretty set. More about this to come soon…
Thanks again.
:salute:
Memphus May 29, 2007, 04:34 PM #1 Most importantly glad to have you back! It is so great to hear everything is working out :)
#2 I will be away Friday June 1st (Evening) until Tuesday June 5th (Evening) at a Wedding in Toronto.
Dave If you could please confirm that you can play the save during this time it would be much appreciated :)
peter grimes Jun 17, 2007, 03:55 PM I will have spotty internet for the next three weeks while on vacation in Alaska. I'll be back in crappy disgusting muggy NYC after July 5. Whoopee.
Glaciers, here I come!! :)
Memphus Jun 20, 2007, 09:57 AM I'm going to be out of internet range from Sunday The 24th Of June (In the Evening) Until Wednesday the 27th of June (Morning)
I am out of Town on my 1 year anniversary
General_W Jun 20, 2007, 12:25 PM Has it really been a year already?!? :wow:
Congrats Mr. President! Have fun!!
If DaveMcW can't pick up the save, I'll have a go at it while you're gone. (but at the rate the save's been going, you may not miss anything! )
General_W Jun 27, 2007, 10:59 AM Welcome back!! :)
Have a good anniversary I trust?
Memphus Jun 27, 2007, 11:03 AM It was great :) Lots of Golf
General_W Jun 28, 2007, 12:24 PM I have some sad news. My daughter is back in the hospital with a new, unrelated heart condition.
Fortunately, the seizures haven’t returned – but now she has a virus in her heart that’s pretty serious. The left side of her heart is enlarged and isn’t pumping blood like it should. Unfortunately, because it’s a virus, there’s only a limited number of things they can do.
We’ve got some of the best doctors in the region looking at her and a lot of people praying for her – but it’s still very scary, obviously.
Anyway – My activity around here is going to be pretty spotty. I can’t sit in the Intensive Care room all the time, so I’ll probably pop in-and-out – but I wanted you all to know what was going on.
We believe God took care of us last time, and we’re trusting that He will again.
As always, your prayers and well wishes are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
- Josh
peter grimes Jun 28, 2007, 08:12 PM All the best, Josh :salute:
Memphus Jun 28, 2007, 09:10 PM If there is anything we can do please let us know :)
Kylearan Jun 29, 2007, 11:36 AM Hi,
all the best to your daughter and your family. I wish you all the strength and luck you need to go through this crisis!
-Kylearan
classical_hero Jul 01, 2007, 06:23 AM I am felling sick right now, so I don;t know when I will be back.
Memphus Jul 26, 2007, 07:43 AM I'll be Away This Satuday and Sunday July 28 & 29th. If the save comes in that time Dave, can you please play it and move it along.
Cabin's for some reason don't have internet ...haha
General_W Jul 26, 2007, 04:15 PM Have fun at the Cabin! [party]
classical_hero Jul 27, 2007, 08:26 PM Enjoy the fun. BTW, I am back, but I have been back for some time now, just that since I am not an important member of this team, I did not bother to say so.
Memphus Jul 29, 2007, 08:24 PM All memebers are important!! :)
I am back now too for 5 days until I haead to Portland for a wedding next weekend :)
classical_hero Jul 30, 2007, 08:35 AM Who's wedding is it?
General_W Jul 30, 2007, 11:22 AM Glad you're feeling better C_H (sorry, haven't checked this thread for a while!)
Have a good trip Mr. President... you're quite the traveler! Have fun! :)
General_W Aug 30, 2007, 12:53 PM My wife and baby and I are all going to the lake for the long Labor Day weekend! :D
No internet up there, so I'm going to be pretty much 100% off the grid from today until Wednesday.
I expect to come back to find the LOCO war nearly finished up and soldiers on their way to Innovia!
General_W Aug 30, 2007, 01:17 PM <snip> double post... oops.
gbno1fan Oct 05, 2007, 01:53 PM I believe I am back after a long, long absence. The wedding went well - you can see pictures at www.pictage.com - do a search for Ben and Heather, sign up (annoying, I know) and then there are the over 1400 pictures our photographer sent us. The honeymoon pictures are up as well. We visited Northern Italy with a stop at the Amsterdam airport (after missing our flight on the way home due to a rain delay out of Venice and spending a few hours not knowing when we'd get home, I am in no hurry to go back to the Schipol in Amsterdam even though it was one of the nicest airports I've been to). Anyway, the honeymoon pictures are in these three albums:
One (http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2089218&l=9314a&id=22006677), Two (http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2089221&l=f7930&id=22006677), and Three (http://depaul.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2089237&l=9ec9e&id=22006677)
I started a new job and we bought a condo. We're almost finally settled in, so I'm finding a little bit more time for my hobbies again.
I'll be trying to catch up for a while now...
peter grimes Oct 05, 2007, 03:07 PM Welcome back, GB! :hatsoff:
classical_hero Oct 07, 2007, 11:35 AM I echo those sentiments.
General_W Oct 07, 2007, 04:06 PM how fun! Welcome back gb!
peter grimes Oct 07, 2007, 10:03 PM I checked out some of the photos from the honeymoon...
I'm so jealous that you were THAT CLOSE to a F1 car!
don't worry, pete  - someday, someday :pat:
DaveMcW Feb 16, 2008, 05:54 PM :bump:http://www.civfanatics.com/blank.gif
Memphus Feb 16, 2008, 07:04 PM DaveMcW ==> Can you please play the turn for 1 Week?
(Our Absency registry has disapeared as well)
I am on a Cruise in the Carribean for 1 week (returning the 24th of February)
I will have the game with me but am Unsure of the Internet ability on the ship.
I leave tommorow Morning at 3:00A.M. so if the turns comes today I can still play
Memphus Feb 25, 2008, 01:52 PM Hey All ~
I am back....but my laptop (comapny) with all my games...
Civ 4
Warlords
Beyond the swords
AoE III
Heritage of the kings
Civ Rome
Rome Total War
Et Al.
Got stolen from the cruise ship....
As such I will be out of commision for a least this next save...until I can get another machine set up the way I want to be able to play (and I'll have to crack one of my unopened Civ's  to play but oh well.
Looks liek we're still on top of the world!!!
peter grimes Feb 25, 2008, 02:03 PM Welcome back :hatsoff:
Sucks about your [work's] laptop, though.
I hope you had a good time, all in all :)
General_W Feb 25, 2008, 05:14 PM wow - that does stink!
Does the cruise ship offer some kind of compensation?
Welcome back! :)
General_W Jul 16, 2008, 01:39 PM Proof I haven't just been avoiding Epsilon, but was actually on Vacation:
Did some great hiking – here's a picture of my daughter Evangeline in her hiking backpack with "Granite Falls" in the background:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c232/GeneralW/HikingGraniteFalls.jpg
We also hiked to local landmark, "Chimney Rock" – it was a moderately difficult hike… pretty steep in places. Here's a couple shots: (No Baby on this hike!)

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c232/GeneralW/HikeMtRoothann2.jpg
And of course water fun also – Here's my wife pulling me on a tube behind a jetski. I survived, but I don't recommend this… LOL
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c232/GeneralW/WaterFun.jpg
Now – don't you feel like you were there? :)
Memphus Jul 16, 2008, 11:25 PM sure do :)
Kylearan Jul 17, 2008, 02:18 AM Hi,
that hiking backpack looks awesome! My daughter is only three months old, but once she's older I really want one of those. :)
-Kylearan
General_W Jul 17, 2008, 01:17 PM Hi Kylearan - yeah, you've got to get one! It's totally awesome and more comfortable than you might think.
We went with the name brand (Kelty) - but were able to get a good deal by buying it used (shopped on eBay & Craigslist... don't know if they have something like Craigslist in Germany?).
Evangeline loves to go hiking, and my wife and I feel like we can go more places with her with it. Evangeline's feeding tube pump even fits into one of the pockets, so we can feed her and give her any meds while hiking - it's actually pretty awesome. One of her doctors says "every child under the age of 5 should come with a feeding tube!"
classical_hero Jul 19, 2008, 11:51 AM A vacation, what is that? I am soooo jealous of you right now. :envy:
