GRRRR. guys, i just started playing civ 4 and i need some advice.

1.How do u keep population from shooting out of control and getting :mad: faces?

2. How do i get the green faces in my cities to go away when they're by a jungle?

oh, annd p.s. , how do u advace ur troops (warrior -> axeman) without spending ur whole reserve of gold?

The easiest way is to get more ways of making them happy. Luxuries, civics, etc all help with this. The second way would be to limit growth in the cities if you can't handle the happyness demands. Just press the limit growth button.

To get rid of the green faces, either build things that give you health, such as improvements, civics or connecting resources. And cutting down the jungle works nicely too.

Delete the Warrioir and build an Axeman in another city... or have a Really Large reserve of gold so that one upgrade doesn't wipe it out.

If you are ok with micromanaging, you can limit your growth by creating specialists or adjusting which tiles are worked. You can also use the governor and click on the halt city growth button if you don't like micromanaging as much. Don't forget to change things back though as you get more potential for happier citizens.
