I assume "no cheating" is a given?:D

I suspect that something about these images will have changed before the game starts. :mischief:

We definitely need Agressive AI and Random Personalities. ;)

Same goes for NOT checking off new Random seed on reload...
although a game where the attacker won 100% of the time could be interesting :mischief:

I would like to see No City Razing implemented, but at the same time have never played that and have no idea of the implication so I'll shut up now

You should not assume that. I may have to turn it off to make the map without having to jump through a lot of hoops to get there.

Teams should prepare to give the boot to anybody who turns up with information they can't possibly know. Self-policing is better anyway.

unfortunately I don't think we can trust people, they can just look at the save and report their findings via PM...

I'm not sure how much extra work it is since I haven't made any Civ4 maps before, but if no cheat is off why would we even need to password our player?

unfortunately I don't think we can trust peopleIf you can't trust others then that could be a reflection upon you. Over at CDZ the spoiler threads for PBEMs are not protected, we just trust that each other will not read them. After all this IS a game (I didn't say it was JUST a game ;) ). Sirian might be correct that it would be easier to make the map with no cheat off.

No Cheat just makes sure that you are not using any custom mods. So any of the Advisor screens that you have gotten used to, the autolog, blue marble terrain, if I'm not mistaken all of those are nixed by "No Cheat".

Password protecting your save is, as I see it, just a way to keep others from accidentally opening it. People have already started developing cracks for civ's passwords in MP games. (Mainly because the game corrupted the password if you changed your details.)

People can easily cheat in this game by reloading, plain and simple.

This game relies on trust. If you can't trust the other teams, this may not be the place for you. Having said that, however, we still can make an effort to prevent cheating. Sirian, unless No Cheat is too much of a hassle, it'd be nice to have it on, but I'll leave it up to you, unless RM has anything to say.

i dont have a problem with "no cheat" being off but I would expect that anyone caught will be removed from the game. and there team fined in some way.
Reload is easy to look for by watching session numbers correct? ( yeah not fool proof but...)

If you really need to cheat to win...go play with the kids on the general forum who seem to use every exploit there is.

/THis is not the view of my team but mine.

I would expect that anyone caught will be removed from the game. and there team fined in some way.yes I would hope this would be the case. It's hard to "fine" the team though. Spoiler information wouldn't necessarily cause a team to be fined. That's why GA & RM are here. They have been just in their decisions in the [c3c] MTDG. So have faith young padawan.

It doesnt bother me so much as this is only a game and shouldnt be taken too seriously and so therefore the need for cheating shouldnt be so high.

I meant if the team was grossly cheating as a unit..then they should be fined in some way. I am not concerned as GA and RM seem to be on the ball and I think each team has members which would not allow such cheating to take place.

Not to disrupt the discussion on cheating, but how does everyone like this as an idea?

Each team chooses 2 civs to control, and they are permanentally allied, so they share research, line of sight, production, etc. It might put too much work on Sirian (he'd have to set up the game almost like 10 teams were playing), but I think it would be interesting.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. That's why I don't like blanket statements about how to handle cheating - every case is different, and therefore we'll be able to make case-by-case decisions when our judgement is needed.

IroquoisPlisken: I think that is too many teams and would take too much time/effort.

What exactly is Random Personalities?

Also am I correct that it will only be our 5 teams playing and no AI civs?

Random Personalities mean exactly that, each leader gets the 2 personality traits randomly assigned, which would completely circumnavigate the fact we chose the leaders that we did as they would have random traits.

On the second part as far as i know there is no ai like in the civ3MTDG

Ginger_Ale

No Cheating, unless it makes Sirian's job a ton tougher (he can guage it), is passed.

Since there were 4 votes for No Cheating, and only 1 so far for City Flipping stuff, and there is only 1 more team left to vote, there is no way City Flipping or anything else can pass with a majority. Therefore: this poll has ended, with No Cheating as the only option selected. :)

Ruleset ... we're just waiting on the patch (maybe in a week or so), then we can do the ruleset in a few days (or even now while we wait), so maybe two weeks until the start?

2.0 have fun and don't take yourself so seriously
