Hi there.

I'm also new with PBEM Civ4 games too and I wanna try one. All the prefs are good, wanna start with random civ/leader. Just one moment: can we impose 'no reloading' rule here? I know we can't control how it will be executed, but we can try, I mean, it's up to everyone's mind to reload or not. I'll not.

Alex.

Hi

Sure why not, if others agree, What level do you play on single player cos I want a nice peaceful game not someone who eats deity for breakfast, unless they promise to be nice!, not one where everyone is rushing each other and I am getting thrashed whilst they try to win as quickly as possible otherwise it won't be so interesting.

I’m new to Civ4, never played any previous civ game. I started playing last month and am in my first game.

I’d like to join the PBEM game, but would suggest picking options to speed it up, like a smaller world and speed options? Or, include CPU players.

I should mention that I’m overseas 16 – 23 March. I’m not away often though.

Great, your in, you have beaten me in you experience, I'v only had it 2 weeks but I do have lots of civ 3 experience. We could have a small world, a faster game speed and only 1 other human player plus 1-3 AI, not sure what to do about you going oversees.

Oh, count me in. I'm a newbie...To this version, at least. It sounds like fun. :) We can all learn from each other. :)

And live with each others mistakes. LOL ;) :goodjob:

ok, I'm in if the business trip is not an issue for the rest :) Can't be helped, but at least I only go very rarely. I can play a turn just before leaving perhaps, and first thing on my return?

So are you suggesting a total of 3 humans, or four? I'm ok either way. I'd suggest 4-5 AI, as they won't slow us down anyway :)

Happy to start now, and do a turn within 24 hours. I'll send you my email.

Are we talking about playing a pitboss or PBEM.

Pitboss is the one where you have more than one player, human.

PBEM is the one where you have multiple people set up to play one government.

Unless....I am totally missing the boat on these explanations. :)

Pitboss is the one where you have more than one player, human.

Pitboss (PB) and Play-By-E-Mail (PBEM) can have any combination of human and AI players. PB allows players to log into the server (game) any time they like to take their turn (can't take turn until it's their turn if simultaneous turns is off), while PBEM follows a sequential order with the turns being sent to individual players, one player at a time.

PBEM is the one where you have multiple people set up to play one government.

You're describing Great_Scott's Realpolitik PBEM game format, not the default PBEM format.

As we have 3 players now it will be faster than 4 + 4 AI, I can only start on the 8th because thats when I get my computer fixed. and It will be a PBEM.

Excuse me, but don't we have 4 players? Including: me, Grant, Jas and senwiz. I'm playing on 'Noble' level so far, and this one seems fine to me. I do suggest at least 'Standart' map size for our game, but if you like smaller, so it be, it's just my preposition. Btw, I'm GMT+3 if it matters.

Your right, we do have 4, well we won't have any more then and see what size map everyone else wants.

I've emailed Grant my email address. Happy to play std size map, but would suggest the fastest game speed, and plenty of AI's as there's no time penalty with them. I also suggest allow trading etc, and any kind of victory.

Btw, I'm in the UK, not that time zone matters for PBEM. Would prefer to play as Caesar.

Ok, so I have Jas's E-mail, and he want to be cesar, plese only rush the AI with tose pretorians! AlexCobra wants to be random and I think it will be a standard size map. I need to have everyone elses email adress and civ preferences, also any other suggestions.

Also happy for everyone to be allocated a random civ, if everyone prefers that :)

btw, isn't a patch imminent? If so, would that mean we would all be unable to apply it for months if we start a game right now? Anyone know if save games would remain compatible?

If not, it might make sense to wait until the end of the month?

The last patch was backwards-compatible with previous PBEMs. I would like to think they learned their lesson from patch 1.09. Otherwise a LOT of PBEM players are going to be mighty pissed.

As I understand it, yes

Jas

I have 1.09. I presume from the above comments that I can upgrade to 1.52 without losing my single-player save game?

senwiz

Can't answer that, as I went from the CD to version 1.52 in a heartbeat. Well, ok...a few heartbeats, but you get the meaning. :) LOL

Jas

Just double-checked, and it seems the read-me says 1.09 at the top, but checking the build within my software shows I'm running 1.52 :)

Hi

As far as I'm aware, there's no need to be on the 1.52 version to play PBEM from 1.09... but I suppose - that's just my experience from other PBEMs - that we should start it with similar versions of the game. Btw, anybody try double-install on Civ IV? Just curious.
