I bought and downloaded Civ 4 from Direct2Drive. It installed and plays fine however I can't apply patches.

When I try to apply the 1.52 patch I get this error message.

The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed. This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.

After the message I can only hit OK and then the install cancels.


This is the file name I get from Direct2Drive when I download. Civ4v109_Setup.exe

This is the file name of the patch I'm trying to apply. Civ4Patch1.52.exe

I'm using Windows XP SP2 with all critical updates and the latest version of directx.

You have to apply the patch thats for the D2D version. I dont no where to get it off hand but look around. I do no for a fact tho that the retail version and the D2D version patches are different and wont work for each other.
