Good Luck to all the candidates going for the Secretary General of Defence :goodjob:
General_W Mar 03, 2006, 10:51 AM I'll nominate Peter Grimes to be our first Secretary General of Defense.
:salute:
He's done a great job in the Civ3 MTDG, and I'm sure he'll get Empire off to a good start.
This first term is likely to be very quiet for all departments, so organization and setting a precedent for reporting and organization styles will be key. You don't need to be able to open our Civ4 save for that!
And Thus, I think Peter is very qualified.
(But Mr. Grimes does love a dirty campaign.. so don't be afraid to run against him! … er… should that be "be afraid, be very afraid!")
gbno1fan Mar 03, 2006, 10:54 AM If it is necessary, I second the nomination of Peter Grimes.
I, too, believe he has done an excellent job in the Civ3 MTDG.
fe3333au Mar 03, 2006, 10:36 PM I do as well but nominate Azzaman333 ... lets have elections :)
fe3333au Mar 04, 2006, 02:19 AM I'm also going to nominate lost_civantares as his comment have been quite instructive as well.
Also to other citizens, Don't be afraid to self nominate ... I did ;)
gbno1fan Mar 04, 2006, 08:00 PM :bump: Are any of the nominees going to accept the nomination, or what?
peter grimes Mar 05, 2006, 11:25 AM This nominee is still considering whether to run or not. Sorry for the silence.
To be honest, I'm afraid that my duties in the Civ3 game may infringe on the time I'd need to invest in the office of Secretary General. On the other hand, the first term won't see many units built (1, maybe 2 max), so how much time will it really involve?.... Not much.
I'm still considering whether to run. I'll decide within 48 hours of this post, at the latest. :)
lost_civantares Mar 05, 2006, 01:23 PM I really appriciate the nomination, and if Peter feels that this would take up too much time and azzaman doesn't respond/doesn't want the job I will try, but I think for this term I will sit out if others want to run. Later I will probably consider running after I can see what the duties and how the office should be run, so that I can at least do a decent job, but because TNT has such a different form of government I will hold off right now on running, unless as said before, I'm the only canadate.
azzaman333 Mar 05, 2006, 07:40 PM I'll accept for now.
fe3333au Mar 05, 2006, 08:42 PM  Azzaman333 vs. Peter Grimes
Any platform speeches ?
Will you be looking for others to assist in the running of Defence Dept ?
Do you have any ideas on the promotion options ... I believe a unit can get better in other traits apart from Health ... do you have any ideas on this?
azzaman333 Mar 05, 2006, 09:20 PM Well, since there wont be a great deal of work, i'm not going need anyone for the specific roles that i could get. However, if i find that i am doing too much work, i will delegate it to a willing person. I dont think that this term will be very exciting in this position, but i like keeping my roles small.
peter grimes Mar 07, 2006, 11:23 AM I decline the nomination. I'm perfectly prepared to offer assitance, and plenty of opinions, but I just can't afford the time right now. Maybe in a couple of terms, after I see how cIV actually works a bit ;)
fe3333au Mar 07, 2006, 08:28 PM :bump: Opened on the 3rd March 11pm ... so will close 10th March 11.00pm +10 GMT
So we need any other nominations confirmed by then !!
fe3333au Mar 10, 2006, 05:52 AM Nomination Period Closed ...
Term 1 ... Head of Office of Imperial Defense is Azzaman333 :salute:
gbno1fan May 09, 2006, 08:45 AM We are now on turn 15 of the current term.
Nominations for the next elections (to take place during turns 18-20) are now open.
Please post your nominations for the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense in this thread.
General_W May 10, 2006, 12:03 PM Now that you're back - you interested in this post lost_civantares?
I'll officially nominate you! :)
lost_civantares May 10, 2006, 07:07 PM If I accept and am voted in, that means at this early stage that I will be managing the warrior and any other ones that are produced, so basicly I will just be telling the player how to explore, right, since there is (unless we hit a hut and gain XP? Or am I missing something? I just have to be careful with finals around the corner. If that is the case I would be happy to accept.
Memphus May 10, 2006, 08:10 PM If I accept and am voted in, that means at this early stage that I will be managing the warrior and any other ones that are produced, so basicly I will just be telling the player how to explore, right, since there is (unless we hit a hut and gain XP? Or am I missing something? I just have to be careful with finals around the corner. If that is the case I would be happy to accept.
Trust me I know how important School is ;) , So with that in mind the week(or two) for studying and writing finals you could simply (if you win) designate someone to submit your orders.
And secondly don't forget DaveMcW also mentioned that general descriptions can work (I.E. Explore in an Western Direction for 3 Turns, Which is most likely going to be the rough navigation of our new warrior)
lost_civantares May 11, 2006, 03:21 PM Okay, If that is all it is right now, I would be happy to accept nomination.
gbno1fan May 16, 2006, 07:54 AM The nomination period is now closed.
Due to lack of competition, the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense for Term 2 is lost_civantares.
Memphus May 16, 2006, 09:30 AM not Relevant anymore ;)
gbno1fan May 16, 2006, 09:36 AM Thanks for catching that, Memphus. I've fixed it.
lost_civantares May 16, 2006, 03:47 PM Thank you for your trust in such developed and complex times as these!
We hope (Uh Oh you are supposed to say, "He's speaking in the plural form, who have we elected?!") that this will be a term that I will learn the way of government before anything spectacular happens... (Though I doubt somehow that I will be able to match the hut findings of my predecessor  He was good with those huts!).
Edit:
Am I correct in assuming that I should be subimiting orders to the President through the "Defence Office- Term 2" (Shortly to be established) thread, or is it going in the "Instructions- Term 2"(I'm assuming shortly to be established)?
DaveMcW May 16, 2006, 04:00 PM Please post in "Instructions - Term 2". :)
lost_civantares May 16, 2006, 04:03 PM As you wish Mr. President. :p

Please post your nominations for the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense in this thread.
General_W Jun 28, 2006, 11:41 AM LostCiv - you interested again?
I'll be happy to re-nominate you!
You've done a fine job so far!
It's starting to look like we're not going to see any turnover in team leadership… but it's still early in the game I suppose :)
lost_civantares Jun 29, 2006, 08:12 AM I accept. :)
gbno1fan Jul 05, 2006, 09:44 AM The nomination period is now closed.
Due to lack of competition, the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense for Term 3 is lost_civantares.
gbno1fan Aug 29, 2006, 08:42 AM We are now on turn 15 of the current term.
Nominations for the next elections (to take place during turns 18-20) are now open.
Please post your nominations for the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense in this thread.
Memphus Aug 29, 2006, 12:13 PM I nominate Peter Grimes, even though you can't open the game you will be that much more tactical in your orders and ask questions!
lost_civantares Aug 29, 2006, 02:55 PM I second. :)
peter grimes Aug 30, 2006, 09:05 PM I'm flattered, but I really can't take this on full-time here. Believe me, accepting (and winning) would ensure that I learn to play that much faster; nonetheless I'm pretty busy with the rest of my life at this point.
I'll nominate Twistlok instead ;)
twistlok Aug 31, 2006, 09:21 AM Well I probably should get more involved. I would be willing to be nominated as long as you and I can consult Peter.
peter grimes Aug 31, 2006, 09:47 PM Sure thing, but I really don't know how much help I'll be!
Might be a good time to get Dodson in. Isn't there anything you can threaten him with? ;)
gbno1fan Sep 06, 2006, 07:20 AM The nomination period is now closed.
Due to lack of competition, the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense for Term 4 is twistlok.
twistlok Sep 06, 2006, 09:33 AM *gulp* time to work out what I need to do.
lost_civantares Sep 06, 2006, 06:21 PM It really isn't all that much at the moment, as our military consists of 1 warrior, currently fortified.
Memphus Sep 06, 2006, 07:24 PM Shh we have 2 but don't give it away!
lost_civantares Sep 06, 2006, 08:26 PM That was going to be our surprise! Quiet! :p (it's fun being the outgoing minister sometimes!)
gbno1fan Oct 27, 2006, 07:55 AM We are now on turn 15 of the current term.
Nominations for the next elections (to take place during turns 18-20) are now open.
Please post your nominations for the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense in this thread.
General_W Oct 27, 2006, 10:57 AM Hey Lost_Civ - want your old job back?
I nominate you to manage our growing military power!
:salute:
Memphus Oct 27, 2006, 06:03 PM I second that Nomination, lots of action now!
lost_civantares Oct 27, 2006, 08:47 PM I'd love accept, but I do need to make known that I may not always be able to give out the orders on time, I'm taking hard classes in school (very fun, but hard ;) ) so time can be at a premium at some points in the week. To make sure that I would take care of my duities what I plan to do if I become Defense Minister is to post long term long terms plans detailing what I'm planning to do. (hopefully a la Memphus when he was domestic minister). Hopefully I won't go missing suddenly, but this should make sure that every thing would be taken care of. In other words, I should be on time with instructions, but I have emergency plans just in case. Would this caveat be okay with everyone? :)
Memphus Oct 27, 2006, 09:05 PM Works For me!:goodjob:
peter grimes Oct 28, 2006, 12:47 PM Fine with me, too. If it makes you feel more comfortable, you could always appoint a deputy to act in the event of your absence.
gbno1fan Nov 03, 2006, 07:02 AM The nomination period is now closed.
Due to lack of competition, the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense for Term 5 is lost_civantares.
lost_civantares Nov 03, 2006, 03:23 PM w00t! :)
It may not be the most exciting reign, but we'll sure have fun while doing it! ;)
DaveMcW Nov 03, 2006, 04:10 PM I think you're going to get more fun than you expected when barb axemen show up!
General_W Nov 03, 2006, 04:42 PM Don't Jinx us Dave!!
Goodness.... :mischief:
Memphus Nov 03, 2006, 05:43 PM Axemen...who are these axemen we speak of?
DaveMcW, what are the empire plans over the next 20 turns?
gbno1fan Dec 08, 2006, 08:23 AM We are now on turn 15 of the current term.
Nominations for the next elections (to take place during turns 18-20) are now open.
Please post your nominations for the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense in this thread.
classical_hero Dec 09, 2006, 05:57 AM I will nominate myself for this position and decline. Just kidding, I accept.
gbno1fan Dec 09, 2006, 10:11 AM Looks like another campaign against classical_hero.
I, too, nominate myself and accept.
Memphus Dec 09, 2006, 10:24 AM Although I will be interested to see the campaigns gbno1fan you havea second from me on your nomination as of late you are more of an active poster.
Classic_Hero do you now that time required to invest? :)
gbno1fan Dec 11, 2006, 08:25 AM The nomination period is now closed.
This will go to poll in a few minutes.
lost_civantares Jan 22, 2007, 07:40 PM It's time for nominations!
Please nominate your choice for Head of the Imperial Defense Ministry.
Polls to be posted if needed on turn 18.
General_W Jan 23, 2007, 10:43 AM I'll nomiate Gbno1fan - interested in another term?
And to keep things interesting, Lost Civ - would you like to take a crack at making this a race? I'll nominate you as well.
:salute:
lost_civantares Jan 23, 2007, 12:19 PM No, Right now I'm not interested, Gbno1fan is free to have it. :)
gbno1fan Jan 23, 2007, 12:27 PM I think I'm going to decline the nomination. I don't feel like I've had enough time to put in the effort that this position deserves.
peter grimes Jan 23, 2007, 01:53 PM I'll run :)
Platform: Lean and Mean
By striking a diplomatic posture that protects us against attack by certain teams, we will be free to concentrate our forces towards potential "vassals" - oh, right. This isn't warlords :hammer2: Well, Loco, at least ;)
The next 20 turns will see the maturation of our Axeman Army, and hopefully start our exploration of Islands off the Coast. Barbs are becoming less and less of a concern for our core. Happiness Policing and Foreign Relations will occupy most of our troops time.
A vote for me is a vote for The Leader :salute:
General_W Jan 23, 2007, 01:57 PM :) wow -reading that makes me want to bow out of my FM race to run against you... just for the fun of it ;)
(Seriously, excellent platform... I second your nomination :) )
peter grimes Jan 23, 2007, 02:22 PM Ahhh - the good old days!
If you read my platform closely, it is obvious that my idea of the immediate future (and medium-term future) incorporates a robust Foreign Policy. So, in effect, you could 'run against me' by decrying my stated Foreign Policy assumptions
Memphus Jan 23, 2007, 04:24 PM Although I do support this nomination Peter What type of Time frame do you have for posting orders?
peter grimes Jan 23, 2007, 04:47 PM I have access to the save at home, so I can check in at least twice every 24 hours. I fully support allowing the Turntaker to have freedom to respond to events that none of us catch preturn - barbs, happiness, etc.
But I don't think there's any reason each unit can't have explicit orders for each turn, even if it's just "hold tight :)"
lost_civantares Jan 26, 2007, 02:27 PM Welcome peter grimes to the rights, responsibilities, and paycheck, or Head Warlord Minister of Epsilonian defense! May your might armies be swift, you blows to the enemy strong, and mighty leaders quake beneath your fist! ;)
You are now the minister for the entirety of term 7. :goodjob:
peter grimes Jan 26, 2007, 04:14 PM Great! May my Reign of Terror be a warning to all Barbarians and other enemies of The Leader
Once Barbarian axemen start appearing, do animals cease to appear? Anyone know?
Memphus Jan 26, 2007, 04:35 PM Great! May my Reign of Terror be a warning to all Barbarians and other enemies of The Leader
Once Barbarian axemen start appearing, do animals cease to appear? Anyone know?
Animals Cease to appear when Barb warriors show up
(Hence why we assume all barb units have a max move of 1 and base defence around that)
gbno1fan Mar 09, 2007, 08:19 AM We are now on turn 19(!) of the current term.
Nominations for the next elections (to take place during turns 20-21) are now open.
The next term will last from turn 142 until turn 160.
Please post your nominations for the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense in this thread.
General_W Mar 09, 2007, 11:07 AM How about Peter "we don't need no stinkin' elections" Grimes for another term? ;)
:salute:
peter grimes Mar 09, 2007, 02:10 PM I wouldn't vote for him anyway
gbno1fan Mar 12, 2007, 09:43 PM The nomination period is now closed.
Due to lack of competition, the Head of the Office of Imperial Defense for Term 8 is Peter Grimes.
...I assume that was an acceptance, Pete?...
peter grimes Mar 13, 2007, 10:33 AM Why not ;)
I'll be busier than usual at work over the next few weeks, but I don't think we're going to start the war during this term. Unless someone starts one on us... :shifty:
classical_hero Apr 22, 2007, 12:47 AM I nominate myself for this position since there has been no other nomination for this job. Vote classical_hero for Minister of Imperial defense/offense for term 9.
peter grimes Apr 22, 2007, 03:55 PM Self Nominating :)
Memphus Apr 22, 2007, 05:36 PM Let's the games begin.
I am ready to hear your campaigns :D
peter grimes Apr 22, 2007, 07:28 PM Well, there's really no game here. We're looking towards an invasion of Loco in the next 40 turns (2 elections), and this Office will be responsible for establishing invasion plans, as well as defensive plans.
For what it's worth, I think that Classical Hero and Peter Grimes are both equally qualified for the position, but I leave it up to him to prove me wrong ;)
Memphus Apr 24, 2007, 07:41 AM Alright Looks Like we have 1 turn left of the current term.
I have put this position to vote.
If No other positions have 2 memebers vying for it then I will default them to who has put thier name in / who had it this term.
Please Vote as it will be closed once I play next the next save :)
Memphus Apr 25, 2007, 12:24 PM A Ptiy voter turn around, but still democracy speak
Peter Grimes, lead us into Battle
classical_hero Apr 25, 2007, 12:36 PM One day is not really a good amount of time to vote.
Memphus Apr 25, 2007, 12:46 PM True but there were 5 Votes.
In the past week the following people have been active in our Forum:
DaveMcW
PeterGrimes
Gbno1Fan
Memphus
General_W
Classic_hero
Which means that 5 out of 6 people voted in the one day time frame.
The one person who didn't vote, their vote would not have changed the outcome either way.
Since it can be assumed that if you havn't come to the forum in the past week the probability that you come on in the next 2 days is quite low, extending the vote more than one day in this case would have seen the exact same result.
DaveMcW Apr 25, 2007, 12:50 PM If it makes you feel any better, Defense won't get really interesting until next term. You can spend that time putting together your next campaign. ;)
I suggest participating a lot in the military thread, posting pictures, suggesting plans, etc.
peter grimes Apr 25, 2007, 01:04 PM Yeah - the more voices, the better!
classical_hero Apr 26, 2007, 12:50 PM Like one vote really matters anyway. ;)
classical_hero Jun 24, 2007, 07:34 AM Do we have a contender for this Ministry?
