View Full Version : well darn it this is bad
albinoneezro Mar 04, 2006, 10:03 PM Ok i just finished moving into my new apartment and i bought this game about a week ago so i haven't had time to play it much or make a .iso file of it. My computer is here fine but i seem to have misplaced all my games... I have .iso files of most of my games but none of civ 4. I have it installed but i cannot play wihtout a cd is there any way to fix this without spending another $50 because i'm kinda strapped for cash.
Thanks
The 777 Hoax Mar 04, 2006, 10:07 PM Um, my reaction would probably not be "well darn it. This is bad." It would probably be more like, "OH MY GOSH AH THIS SUCKS WHERE THE HECK DID MY GAME GO WHAT THE HECKKKKKKK."
If there's a way to fix it, I don't know it. Amazon has it for $40 bucks though.
King Flevance Mar 04, 2006, 10:40 PM Find those discs. Go on a hunting mission.
Best advice I have :/
linjon1 Mar 04, 2006, 11:00 PM " I have it installed but i cannot play wihtout a cd is there any way to fix this without spending another $50"
you mean can someone here tell you how to hack the game??
no, no one here will tell you that.
You're right about that. Don't ask anyone on how to hack the game.
Thalassicus Mar 04, 2006, 11:37 PM Google is your friend, I guess :)
kordo Mar 04, 2006, 11:42 PM yes ,there is. after this advice your going to love me. go on to the internet. Search for your local library catologs. search for your game. chances are youl find it. just rent, copy, play.
RandomInsanity Mar 05, 2006, 01:45 AM since you already bought it, i would say you can download the game without feeling guilty
No you can't. Warned for advocating piracy.
aaronflavor Mar 05, 2006, 01:53 AM I'm not sure about Firaxis in particular, but decent software companies offer replacement media for a reasonable fee. The less decent the publisher, the less reasonable the fee. Contact Firaxis support, and ask them what they can do for you.
After Firaxis tells you to go screw yourself, you may be interested contributing to your society in the form of intellectual property reform.
warpstorm Mar 05, 2006, 10:05 AM Firaxis is a developer and as such doesn't even have any disks unless they go across the street to EB to buy them. Take2 (the publisher) does offer replacement disks (at least they used to).
babakahmadi Mar 05, 2006, 02:11 PM Sorry, but this is like anything else you buy w/o a long term and detailed warranty. Say you buy a TV and lose the remote; unless you have a warranty that let's you get a new remote for free when you lose it, you have to buy a new remote.
Also, as a software developer myself, I must say that hacking the game or downloading pirate versions is unacceptable. We want to promote a community that supports software development and not one that cuts us software developers at the knees.
Azash Mar 06, 2006, 11:37 AM In the immortal words of a certain mod: "Piracy in any form is not piracy here." :p
But seriously, find those CD's.
Crimso Mar 06, 2006, 11:41 AM After the latest patch, the game wouldn't accept my CD anymore, so I cracked it.
Azash Mar 06, 2006, 11:43 AM That's gonna get you in trouble, cracking is considered teh piracy here.
The 777 Hoax Mar 06, 2006, 02:06 PM LOL man this is the worstest thread I've ever seen...
Seriously, yeah, you need to go on major searching mission.
King Flevance Mar 06, 2006, 02:23 PM Also, as a software developer myself, I must say that hacking the game or downloading pirate versions is unacceptable. We want to promote a community that supports software development and not one that cuts us software developers at the knees.
I do not support piracy myself. I feel I am one of the only people Metallica in the napster issue. However, I believe the consumer does have the right to pirate anything that has been stolen, misplaced, damaged, or any other misfortune that could leave them without their purchase.
Now, the reason for this is when you buy stuff on a CD your buying more of an idea or such. YOu pay for "the ability to have Korn play any of these 13 songs" or whatever or you pay for "the ability to play Civ 4 whenever you want from now on" You are certainly not paying 60 dollars for a disc in my eyes.
Once again I want to say that if you haven't already payed for it, your a thief. That I am against. The reason I personally see a green light here is because you have already bought it, thus payed for your part of the programmer's/musicians time and artistry. Alot of places do not offer replacements for low prices and end up making the consumer double pay.
But once again the best advice that can be given is to find the CDs. If you have moved they are more than likely misplaced. You may check into what Warpstorm mentioned and see if 2k will replace the discs for a small cost.
Reignking Mar 06, 2006, 02:54 PM I don't get this...Firaxis supports piracy, right? Didn't they just release a game about it?
Meffy Mar 06, 2006, 03:26 PM Don't make me release the flying monkeys, Reign... :-}
linjon1 Mar 06, 2006, 03:37 PM "You are certainly not paying 60 dollars for a disc in my eyes"
interesting way to think about it.
seems valid, to me.
all in all, i would be looking for my cd's.
vilemerchant Mar 06, 2006, 04:41 PM He's right. When you purchase software you're purchasing a licence to own and use that software. You still own the game regardless of having the disc still in your possession (unless you were to sell it). Just download the no-cd crack.
Rex Tyrannus Mar 06, 2006, 04:50 PM Check the EULA. It should give instructions for media replacement.
