Nomad Bryce Mar 07, 2006, 03:16 PM We need to talk more! This thread is getting progressively less active! Very very bad! Let's develope some comraderie by talking about ourselves and such.
I am going to go see my friend Alison and play clout with her (Nerd game, look it up =] ) Check ya later! Please post to show that you have a pulse!
Bengeance Mar 07, 2006, 03:50 PM Oh I definitely have a pulse. Heart beating just fine over here. Never heard of clout. Will have to look that one up.
Ginger_Ale Mar 07, 2006, 03:52 PM People are probably just waiting for the game to start. :)
You can always PM them when it does start and they'll probably resume their interest.
Sigma Mar 07, 2006, 04:08 PM I don't have a pulse. I'm almost dead in the organized RPG... ;)
Swissempire Mar 07, 2006, 05:22 PM Its a a well-known fact that innovians have evolved to not have a pulse!
But not to thread-jack, but what do "we" look like. Totally a flavor thing, but people from diff parts of the world have diff a ppereances. What should ours be?
Nomad Bryce Mar 07, 2006, 06:37 PM Our cultural diets should depend on our food rescources, as for our skin color, I'd say middle eastern would be fitting, but we can modify it based on our climate. I think wrenches should be a part of our attire. We like Wrenches. Wrenches are associated with machines, and innovative people use machines often.
Strider Mar 07, 2006, 10:10 PM We don't need to talk more..
cIVpassIVe Mar 08, 2006, 12:05 PM Thanks for sharing, Strider, and nice work with the RPG. I've never played any sort of RPG before...none of my friends ever seemed to be into it...but have heard a lot about it and look forward to the " creative adventure" aspect of it.
Sigma, don't worry buddy, I'm sure Swissy will find some way to breath life into you....pulse or not...
I personally have an abnormal pulse, a heart defect called atrial fibrillation (go ahead, look it up if you're bored). I have a serious addiction of Civ, and am in some danger of letting it take control of my life..:)
I still have too much to learn with this game, but I'm currently going out on a limb and trying for a cultural victory on Monarch....those AIs are a bunch of cheaters!
DaveShack Mar 08, 2006, 05:38 PM I'm 44, married, with 2 kids (5, 2 1/2). Civ isn't quite an addiction, I can put it down when more important stuff takes all my time. In practice that means I get to play a few minutes a day on the bad days and hours on the good ones. ;)
Nomad Bryce Mar 08, 2006, 08:23 PM I'm 17, openly gay, a devout and practicing Won Buddhist, I live 5 minutes outside of philadelphia in the northeastern US metropolis. I have been diagnosed by two different psycologists as Manic. Its the opposite of depressed pretty much. I go between normal and overwhelming amounts of energy and happiness (That prevent me from sleeping). I prefer knowledge and challenges to other common activities for people my age. I am extremely anti-alcohol smoking and drug. I do not Partay, but I do have parties involving nerd games that I believe challenege and expand my strategical mind. I LOVE STRATEGY GAMES, but I hate RTS strategy games. In my spare time I have some very strange hobbies, like researching things that other people consider dry. I like the Federalist Papers (Have read every one, and quite a few multiple times) and everything world history. I have an extreme interest in Asia. Mahatma Ghandi is my hero, I personally ordered the movie off the internet and have watched at least 6 times (Its a 3 hour movie, and stores dont carry it anymore, which is a disgrace, considering it has meaning and won 8 oscars in 1982 including best picture) I like philosophy, and wrote a ten page paper for fun with the thesis that The Dark Ages weren't the Dark Age of philosophy. When I showed it to my social studies teacher in 9th grade, I got 20 extra credit points (which I didn't need). I have been known to not to homework that I don't like. I am known as very very friendly (Often called "Gay" how ironic) and am never unhappy. I got in a lot of trouble for laughing while kneeling in front of my dead-grandmother. I loved her very much, but I knew this was the natural way of life and that she was ready. I also am a possible presidential candidate for the senior class of highschool since I am very populour and well loved, even by fundamentalist christians. I love Green Tea. And Shopping at the Korean Supermarket. And spending my Saturdays with old Asian Monks. So anyway, sorry for being so longwinded! I have a lot more to say but I have to do government homework! My favorite class!
Strider, I clearly don't know you very well, and this is based on very little information, but you seem to be developing into a well balanced and intelligent person! Overcoming being orphaned should give you bonus respect in my eyes, clearly that is a sign of spiritual strength. I actually intend to adopt when I am older, and I intend to adopt those who are of age, such as nine-year olds for example. I am a very loving person and care very deeply for the human race. In my religion, all children in the world are our children, and because of this, I have no need to have children when my other children are still suffering. Therefor I have made a solemn vow at my temple to not have children and devote myself to those who need parents but have none.
Swissempire Mar 08, 2006, 09:51 PM My name is Chip, and i used to be perfectly happy in Massachusetts. Then i was forced to relocate to Florida, where i have no offline friends, have serious boughts of depression, and am a growing chocoholic.
I am no where near the level of you guys. And while i sound really fat, i'm not!
Nomad Bryce Mar 08, 2006, 09:56 PM I have chocolate problems too! But meditation is weening me from the vice of chocolate consumption, and its addictive properties. We are definately a community you can look to for companionship and advice! We love you swiss, and I am sure you will find those in california who will love you too. (EDIT: California? Man I'm tired, I meant Florida. Aren't I just a jerk, 'You will find people in California who love you and you'll never see them, muahaha, now you will never be happy') Might I note, Florida has some of the most active nerd gamers in America? You should pick up some CCGs and some other games and go to your local hobby shop! I would love to chill with some Florida gamers. Is it beutiful where you live now or not so much? I probobly just always see the beutiful pictures of Florida.
Swissempire Mar 08, 2006, 10:08 PM Nomad, damn i wish i had friends like you. I do play TCG's and Risk and cool stuff like that, and there is a hobby shop down the lane, but i never get around to it, partially because my overbearing parents don't think its cool, and partially because of my sudden "Adjustment Disorder" onset. I used to be all get happy and out going, but now i'm like a slug. At least thats how my parents decribe me.
But on the bright side, my shrink says that i have to go on Civfanatics at least once a day, because i told her it made me happy.
And if my parents allowed me to convert, and i didn't want to be president of the U.S.A someday, i would be a daoist, because i think it holds a lot of truth.
DaveShack Mar 08, 2006, 10:23 PM I know first hand how hard it is to adjust to moves. We moved when I was 11, 13, 17, and 18, and I went to two junior high and three high schools. I have yearbooks from the last two years and basically don't know a single person in either of them. Well, myself and even then I don't really resemble myself from back then.
Both my kids are adopted and I've been telling my wife we should consider adopting an older child later, at a point where he / she ends up being the youngest. I figure even though we can never replace natural parents of an older kid, if we can provide real stability that's gotta be better than the foster system.
Rik Meleet Mar 09, 2006, 07:12 AM Be advised that after the game this forum will probably be opened for all to see. Take that into consideration when posting your life-stories here.
Bengeance Mar 09, 2006, 08:11 AM @Swiss - Let me see here...your name is Chip...You founded the religion of Chipism...you now have a growing number of Chipists in the Demogame...I seem to see a pattern here. LOL :) I may have to make a motion to rename Chip to Ben. :)
I'm from Eastern Tennessee, 25 and married. No kids. Methodist and generally happy. I work for a large chemcial company that makes lots of polymers for soft drink bottles and a bunch of other applications. I am a big nerd and gamer, but with the exception of M:tG about 10 years ago never really got into the CCGs. Love to play all kinds of games and sports. I'm part of a few fantasy football leagues in the fall, joining a fantasy baseball league now, and have football night with a buddy of mine every thursday where we play college football on the Xbox.
It great to meet all of you guys and get a flavor of your offline lives. I think we have a great team and will give everyone else all they can handle in game, but even if we don't I bet it is a lot of fun just from the interactions here on the team page.
Theoden Mar 09, 2006, 03:47 PM My heart is beating and I'm completely awake... I think :)
I guess I'll tell a little about myself too. I'm currently travelling the long hard road of a student trying to get an education. My spare time is mostly spend on music (that is, besides spending too much time here ;) ), both playing and listening to it. I also use alot of time composing my own music. My preferred/main instrument is bass, allthough I play alot of guitar as well. I'm currently playing the bass in three different bands. I think that's what tells most about me :).
@Rik
If we don't want anyone else to read it, we could just edit it out when the forums are about to become public.

Alas, i've been dicovered. But Chip is just my alias name, that i use online, its a cool name:goodjob:
Thats cool, the TCG i mentions was MTG
Veera Anlai Mar 10, 2006, 04:30 AM I'm a college student down here in Florida, nineteen years old and studying history and education. You get a wooden nickle if you can guess what field I'll be entering when I graduate. This is my second year in college, and I've recently moved out to live on my own, with a couple of roomies who are actually pretty cool. Not married, not seeing anyone, and for the time, not really interested either. I did the dating thing my first year of college, got my fill, thank you very much! Until I graduate from college, I've been going through a slew of part-time jobs, including baker, barista, and now retail worker for the local Linens n' Things.
In my spare time, I read books, shop, kill time in coffee shops, and take advantage of the wonderful Florida weather to go hiking. :) I love sushi, enjoy jazz, folk, singer-songwriter and pop music, and am very interested in history, politics, and current events. Them's the basics!
Sigma Mar 10, 2006, 02:47 PM Well here goes...
I'm 18 years old and am a Freshman at Rice University (in Houston). I grew up in Syracuse, NY and Dayton, OH, until I moved here to Houston where I have been for the last 8 years of my life. I'm majoring in Computer Science, a field in which I have distinguished myself many times over the last few years, including receiving the title UIL Computer Science State Champion (UIL is a program that most Texas high schools participate in). I love computers and have a natural talent for programming: I currently program in C++, Java, PHP/MySQL, Visual Basic, Perl, and Scheme, though some more than others. I'm also quite knowledgeable on the hardware side, I've built many computers and know the inner workings from transistors on up. Basically, if you ever have a question about computers, I'm the one you want to ask. ;)
I'm also a good musician. I love the piano, and have played some incredibly difficult songs, though I haven't had time to practice lately. I also play the Saxophone, and am a member of the MOB (Marching Owl Band), Rice's infamous band that puts on entertaining halftime shows and loves to taunt their opponents. It's too bad our football and basketball teams aren't that great. :) But I love Rice anyway, and couldn't imagine being at any other college.
Nomad Bryce Mar 10, 2006, 10:03 PM So much south, so few new englanders! Am I the only one? Tsk Tsk. Well, I guess we'll get the laid back southern style, which is kinda nice. Up here, everyone does everything at 5000000mph, never stopping, work work work, stress stress stress. I hear down there you guys really know how to chill out. Sounds good to me man. I need a break.
Swissempire Mar 10, 2006, 10:34 PM Hey, i'm just a new englander stranded in a foreign country. or state if you wanna nitpick. But last time i checked, Philadelphia wasn't in new england hmmm....;)
Nomad Bryce Mar 11, 2006, 10:10 AM Well I don't know what you wanna call me, because Philadelphia certaintly aint southern. Phila, Trenton, Baltimore, and DC. What are we? And don't say Baltimore is southern because its in Maryland, my sister lives in Baltimore and thats a load of crap. Also New York technically isnt part of "The New England States" and yet I consider it part of New England. So I guess you could say NY, Phila, Trent, Balt, DC. Some call us the Middle States. Perhaps you could just call us Metropolitan. We do live in a Metropolis.
Swissempire Mar 11, 2006, 10:13 AM I call you a Northerner:goodjob:
Swissempire Mar 12, 2006, 09:22 PM Nomad, did you see this?
Boy Called Reincarnated Buddha Missing
By BINAJ GURUBACHARYA, Associated Press Writer
Sun Mar 12, 1:50 AM
KATMANDU, Nepal - A 15-year-old boy whose followers believe he is the reincarnation of Buddha has disappeared after 10 months of meditation in the Nepalese jungle, officials said Saturday.
Followers of Ram Bahadur Banjan reported his disappearance and search parties on Sunday split up in the jungles of Bara, about 100 miles south of the capital, Katmandu, to investigate, said Santaraj Subedi, the chief government official in the district.
Gautam Raj Kattel, a police official, said eyewitnesses reported seeing the teen heading south before dawn on Saturday. His clothes were found near the spot where he had been meditating.
Kattel said officials did not believe Banjan had been abducted by communist rebels or robbers.
Banjan has been sitting cross-legged and motionless with eyes closed in a niche among the roots of a tree in the jungle since May 17, 2005, according to his associates, who claim he has had no food or water during that period.
In recent months, thousands of people have come to glimpse the boy, including many who believe Banjan is a reincarnation of Gautama Siddhartha, who was born not far away in southwestern Nepal around 500 B.C. and later became revered as the Buddha.
Visitors have only been allowed to view the Banjan between dawn and dusk from a roped-off area about 80 feet away. His followers kept him from public view at night, when they would place a screen in front of him.
Buddhist priests who visited him said the boy was not the incarnation of Buddha but believed he had been meditating for months.
Buddhism teaches that right thinking and self-control can enable people to achieve nirvana _ a divine state of peace and release from desire. Buddhism has about 325 million followers, mostly in Asia.
Whats your opinion on the matter.
Just trying to get some dicussion going.
Nomad Bryce Mar 13, 2006, 09:20 PM Many buddhists are able to accomplish such strange biological feats. They are said to heal faster and be much happier then other people in the world. They can often go without food or water for extended periods of time. That is quite an amazing story those as an american I am always cautious to take to such things. May he find enlightenment. I do not have that self-control, and eat more then I should (Not fat yet, but I'm starting to see something that could be fat) An asian woman at my temple had heart surgery two years ago. They needed to cut open her heart so they were going to load her up with, well, whatever it is they load you up with to make the pain go away. She denied all of it. They operated on her while she was awake, but she never moved. The doctors were amazed. She had meditated through the surgery and said that she had felt no pain. Buddhism is quite often a friend of science, and much of buddhist practice is based on proven health benefits of their spirituality and the strength it gives them. The Dali Lama himself has said he encourages science to investigate buddhism, and buddhist practices are now employed in many rehabilitation centers because of their practical use. Such a stroy may be believable, and he may most likely be a buddha, or he may not. I don't see how a non-enlightened individual could sit there for 10 months.
Mauer Mar 15, 2006, 05:26 PM Hey guys, maybe just a blurb in my day, but I created a blog. It only has one post, but I'll try and update it regularly for those interested in my thoughts, opinions, or nonsensical banter. It's in my sig.
Nomad Bryce Mar 15, 2006, 05:59 PM I would like a list of everyones favorite computer/console games =]
Mine:
Civ III (Yes, I prefer 3 to 4 any day)
Shogun Total War (I play that so much more then I play Medieval or Rome)
Railroad Tycoon III (Would love to get my hands on a copy of II, truly a classic)
Tropico
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (So much better then 4!)
Shattered Union
Populous the Begginning
Deadlock (The original! I love old strategy games!)
Sid Meier's Pirates!
I intend to buy the following games on saturday:
Port Royale 2 & Patrician III via a box deal I was holding out for that is released tomorrow called buccaneers bounty. Both great strategy games plus some game called tortuga for only $20! Yay
Lets see those lists!
Veera Anlai Mar 15, 2006, 07:22 PM Civ III, and Heroes of Might and Magic III. Those are the only computer games I play actually. I used to play the Sims, but that game is like a virus. By the time I finally deleted it, I had downloaded almost three gigs of furniture and clothing. ^_^;
Mauer Mar 15, 2006, 08:41 PM Hmm, PC games is easy. #1 is Civ3, #2 is Civ4. PS2 favorite game would be Crash Team Racing. Well, actually it's a just a playstation game, not PS2, but I've spent more hours on that one game with my wife son and neighbor than all other games combined. I know, I'm simple.
Swissempire Mar 15, 2006, 09:21 PM 1. Civ 4&3
2. Star Wars: EMpire at war
3. BAttle for Middle Earth
4. Mercenaries( Amzing PS2 game)
---------------------------------
Nomad, how is Shattered Union. I LOVE the concept, but idon;t think i could get used to the hexagonal movement thing?
------------------------------------------
Mauer, the blog is ok, but as non-critical advice, i'm Christian and i still felt like you were trying to convert me:crazyeye: And i happen to like Law and Order. But its a good blog!:goodjob:
Zeikko Mar 16, 2006, 03:01 AM Hi everyone!
I didn't find any other thread where I could introduce myself so I decided to use this one. Before introducing myself i'd like to ask are there any Europeans other in our team? Not that it mattered very much but after reading all the topics in the team forum I felt quite confused because of all the strange jokes and other things typical to American culture. I felt i'm not from the same planet as you are. (Atleast not from the same continent) ;) I hope I'll learn to understand all of you, your jokes and the whole American culture better.
I'm Innovia's new reinforcement from the arctic Finland (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland) I wonder if you have even heard of Finland before. I'm 18 (19 in May) old guy studying the last term in upper secondary school. I'm having my matriculation exams in this month, I just had matriculation exam of history yesterday. I had 6 hours to write 6 Essays and i had 11 topics to choose from. Some topics included pictures, graphs, maps and other things to help me. I wrote 14 pages and I hope I won't get a miserable grade from the exam.
I have played computer games since i was 8 years old, and nowadays i'm quite addicted to computers and playing, which is causing me problems. I am proud to have Civ, Civ II, Civ III and Civ IV on my shelf. I actually played Civ II at my cousin first, but then bought Civ and soon Civ II too. I'm new to the demo game concept but I learn quickly and I'm looking forward to participate our team's decisions.
I don't know how i could describe my personality to you. I think i'll skip that part of the introduction and let you make your own conclusions. Even though my life is quite online-centered i have life outside the internet (atleast i pretend to) I'm working in a newspaper delivery service, my job is to deliver newspapers to shops by car, so I actually like the job. I mostly just drive in the Helsinki city and get paid for that. I also have a girlfriend, who doesn't like at all when I spend a lot of time on the computer. :P I'm still living with my mom and bro, because i MUST go the army in a year and renting an own apartment before that would be quite stupid.
Uh, i quess that's all, ask if you have something that troubles you. I hope this will become a great game for all of us.
Nomad Bryce Mar 16, 2006, 01:56 PM Of course I've heard of Finland! Hasn't everyone? Where would we get Nokia if it weren't for them? lol.
Zeikko Mar 16, 2006, 02:00 PM It wouldn't be the first time for me to hear that Nokia is from Sweden or Germany. But i'm glad that you've noticed our tiny but so beautiful nation. :)
Theoden Mar 16, 2006, 02:59 PM My favourite PC games:
Civ (I like all of them, but civII is my favourite)
Morrowind
Age of empires II
Railroad Tycoon II
Rites of War
Rayman (the original 2D game, believe it or not - this is the only platform game ever that has really hooked me. And the only one that I care to go back and play again :) )
are there any Europeans other in our team?
Hail, fellow European from the cold Scandinavia
Living in Denmark, I am almost neighboor to Finland, and I must say I admire many things about your country. That few people know about Finland is not necessarily a bad thing. Just look at Denmark, who has suddenly become (in)famous throughout most of the world. Just not the kind of attention I prefer :ack:. I'd rather have Denmark be as "unknown" as Finland right now.
Swissempire Mar 16, 2006, 04:29 PM Finland eh, that seems a little fishy to me:lol:
Welcome
Mauer Mar 16, 2006, 07:59 PM Mauer, the blog is ok, but as non-critical advice, i'm Christian and i still felt like you were trying to convert me:crazyeye: And i happen to like Law and Order. But its a good blog!:goodjob:
I like Law and Order too (SVU). I do have a worldview filter up when I watch it. I tend not to worry too much about whether or not people think I'm trying to convert them or not. I have the goal in sight ;) and if people get upset they get upset. Anyways, it's sort of like an online journal anyways. My thoughts, a glimpse into me little head that is :crazyeye:
Swissempire Mar 16, 2006, 10:13 PM SVU ROCKS, OMG its the best show EVER!!!!
Zeikko Mar 17, 2006, 07:55 AM My favourite PC games:

Nice to know that i'm not the only one representing Europe in our team.
Finland eh, that seems a little fishy to me
I said Finland, not Fishland :P
Swissempire Mar 17, 2006, 09:00 AM It was a bad joke, you know fish have fins... get it... anyone
Zeikko Mar 17, 2006, 10:20 AM Haha! Got it. :) But do Finns have Fins as Fish do? I think i'm the only one who knows the answer, but you others can always quess.
Nomad Bryce Mar 22, 2006, 05:05 PM Hey everybody! Sorry I've been gone! I got busy and then when I would have come back on Saturday, I got a fever. I've been really sick for 4 days and I feel like crap today, but I've been thinkin about you guys. So now I am active again.
Mauer Mar 22, 2006, 07:21 PM No worries, you didn't miss much. I think the start date for this game is coming up quick. Like around
April 2 .............2015.
