I'm sure you Hall of Famers have ideas for Gauntlets you'd like to see. Feel free to post them. Also feel free to respond to suggestions you support.

When making recommendations, they can be as general or as specific as you'd like, but two criteria must be met. First, it has to be within HOF rules. Secondly, the Gauntlet must have a single, focused victory condition. (BGVII is a one-time exception.)

El-Jihad, standard or bigger map.

Make your state religion the number #1 religion in the world by either:
- Making all your opponents have the same state religion as you
- Making your religion spread to 70% of the world
- Killing any infidel pigs and show them the only true God, by forcing them to convert or be killed

Or something along those lines. Whoever gets the job done the quickest can be the new HOF prophet. Fear the Taoist Pacifist Holy War (TM) !!

Like Bill said, domination or conquest with an island map.

Are there going to be any gauntlet winners page, like GOTM. Maybe this will increase participation?

There is > a page < (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/gauntlet.php) that shows the results of the most recent Gauntlets. We really ought to include the results of ALL of the Gauntlets. Is that what you meant?

Since we're starting the permanent Hall of Fame Gauntlets later today, I suspect participation will eventually rise, because strong Gauntlet finishes will factor into Quattromaster Challenge standing. :)

What is "Quattromaster Challenge"? Just curious!

PS: I can't play anyway....I'm giving my computer to my father in law. After this weekend, I won't have my computer any more. I will see how long I can go without Civ4.

I seriously doubt it.

It'll be the IV equivalent to the III Quartermaster's Challenge.:)

Please. On any conq/dom game with Islands or Continents. Don't allow low sea level

While that's true, any games that make it into the permanent HOF will count towards the Quattromaster's Challenge. So, if you can guess what the events will be you can start submitting games that count towards it right now ;).

Since it is the equivalent to the III Quartermaster's Challenge, it should be easy to guess the events. ;) Btw, no Deity Gauntlets? :(

Fairly new, so I'm not sure if this is the kind of idea you're looking for, but I'll throw it out there as a possibly fun game.

Texas Two Step
-Player may only build units with a movement rate of 2 or greater
-Player must play a civ which starts with Hunting (no warriors! or require destruction of warrior on turn 1)
-Great Plains map (believe that is legal in HOF, if not Pangea or Continents)

There are some obvious exclusions which I think would expand most player's knowledge of utilizing often overlooked units:

Common early military rush units: No axemen to dominate. No praets to easily dominate.

Archery gone!: City defense would fall to units that typically don't receive bonuses.

Early artillery: Movement rate of 1 means find another way to deal with city defense.

Could complicate the game by requiring the game to include only these leaders (player could play one of course... or not for more challenge):
- Gengis and/or Kublai Khan
- Hatshepsut
- Saladin
- Napolean and/or Louis
- Frederick and/or Bismarck
- Cyrus
- Catherine and/or Peter
- Isabella

This might be a bit too variant strong for producing legitimate HOF attempts, if so, then could look at forcing the Civ list and map type.

As I recall, the Deity Gauntlet got no submissions. We will eventually have one, but they'll be infrequent.

Tiny islands, medium sea, conquest, domination, your opponents must be the financial ones and you must play the non-financial civ with the least amount of HOF entries. Emperor or immortal level. Epic speed.

Yeah, I don't think anyone came close to winning the huge deity domination, however I think it was the particular victory/skill/size combination that kept people from participating. If there were a Deity gauntlet that was one a standard or smaller map I think you would get several entries.

The Diety gauntlet participation had nothing to do with Diety IMO. It was the "Huge Gauntlet" that got no submissions. I wish every gauntlet was on the Diety level! They should be at least as frequent as anything below Noble. Let's face it. The first level is there so a 5 year old can play and enjoy the win.

That's a little harsh.:(

what do you all think about a duel map with a lot of civs (10 or something) pangaea, diplomatic victory

That is not a legal HOF option. But way to think outside the box.

A large/huge domination on an islands map would be interesting.

What about playing either domination on a terra map? Is it possible to get to the new world without researching astronomy?

What about a cultural victory on a duel/tiny/small map with the max civs, all agressive? A cultural victory on a duel pangea map, emperor or higher lvl, alexander and montezuma as opponents. The encroaching borders would pose some problems. Would end up with you taking out 1 civ and beating the other down to 1 city I think, but it would be interesting to see how someone will balance the fighting with having 3 major culture cities.

and what about a cultural victory where you have to research Future Tech 1 first?

I second the motion, but I want to see enough aggressive opponents to make it a challenge, so I recommend either a small or a standard map. Maybe not "maximum" opponents, but, say, one over the standard setting. Emporer or higher level for this one. Also, it should be on a land map.

Another cultural or spaceship game that I would like to see is one on a water map of some kind that separates us from our opponents so that we can't trade techs until we acquire caravels and make contact. This would force us down new and interesting tech paths, instead of always heading quickly for alphabet.
