It's nice that discussions are held in forum style, but are there any chat rooms that a person (namely me) can talk to other civ fanz in realtime?

Yes, and if I recall correctly, the last time someone brought up realtime around here it near caused an armed revolution as the citizens of CivFanatics took to the streets in rage.

There aren't any here at civfanatics, but there may be at some other civ sites. I never seen one personally, but if it can be done, someone will do it. I doubt that chat will be added to civfanatics any time soon; the community still isn't active enough. Although, I have seen a dramatic increase in activity over the last few months. Maybe if we get about twice the size we are now...

Yeah, an irc would be cool. Just more civ fanz will have to be told the coordinates.

dude! that just would be great! But I had IRC a few weeks a go and for the Newbie's on irc its very hard to chat on irc, (Just like me in the beginning

I am very familiar with IRC

I am also familiar with mIRC.

I can set up a mIRC script that is pre set to run on the IrCQ network, and make it available for download. So all people have to do is download it and click "connect".

They don't even have to know anything about mIRC right away. All they gotta know is how to click, type and hit enter. Anyone interested?
