Oks I have tried to win the culture victory and each time I get to end game I have one city usally my main with well over 50,000 culture points and one about 40,000 culture points and the last around 37,000 culture points.
I just feel like im missing something. I dont even see how to win with culture victory.
I had to leave all three of my main city towns on culture for the last 40 or 50 turns of game. To even pull those numbers off.
If anyone has any hints that would be nice.
In last game I tried to spread my one relgion so I could use the diff. civics to pull well ahead and that worked well. I wonder though is it needed to have many relgions so one could build many temples and such for culture victory?

A culture win strategy has to be decided early. I find it best when I'm alone on my own 'island'. I try to pump Buddah first. I don't to often get him but I'll be back soon so I won't lose the research when I switch to Hinduism. OK I didn't get that one either so I switch to Bronze working and then go to Judiasm. That one I usually get. Get Priesthood for the Oracle Then beeline to code of laws (courthouse mostly but you also get Confuciousism). Go to music (artist). Minimal army at this time and build only the infrastructure you absoluty have to have for commerce and Health/Happy. By now I have 4 or 5 cities but they are usually all prime sites for commerce. (This really only works with a commerce base) Early wonders are good but not essential. I kinda only care about the cult/comm ones. Head to astrol and chem so you can get your butt out on the ocean as this will be your only means of defence until the buildings are built. Get to econ for the Great merchant and by now you will have met enough civs in you circumvent Caravel that they will be lined up to trade to techs you skipped. With all your religious buildings, theaters and the like you should have a pretty good lead. The later culture wonders are imperative but you will have enough cash to buy them. Now you can go to town on your army/navy. There will be very little upgrading expense because You have so few units. Keep your culture slider up but still pay attention to research for you want to keep the lead so you will have destroyers and the like to kick the snot out of them when they come calling-and they will- when they see how sorry your army is on the graphs-but you will be ready for them.

The key is to use artist specialists. Build Globe Theatre in your main GP city or use Caste System and run as many artists as you can and then start pumping out Great Artists. During the early game, settle them in the second and third city to begin accumulating culture and during the later game, use them as culture bombs to up those cities' values.
Check out the post by walkerjs in the stragegy section. It gives the best rundown of what to do and I've used those techniques to win by culture numerous times.

also, try turning the slider all the way to culture, esp once you get mass media (for all the cultural wonders) and at least industrialism (for marines and tanks) ~ if you can get about 500 culture per turn in your three main cities, it's easier than you think.
but, yes, you do need to be on it from day one. And your GPF should ONLY be generating Artist points.
also, try having 3 religions and at least nine cities. Spread the religions to all the cites, build temples for them all in all cities, then, build a 'cathedral' for each religion in your 3 culture city's...viola ~ 150% bonus to your culture!
