View Full Version : Adding Buildings? Thasis Mar 15, 2006, 04:04 PM I was wondering if anybody knew if it was possible to add new buildings. I have some realy intressting ideas but I'm kinnda modding clueless at the momment. Just starting to do some research on modding now. IVZanIV Mar 15, 2006, 04:06 PM It is possible. Give me a minute and I can find files if you'd like. IVZanIV Mar 15, 2006, 04:07 PM CIV4BuildingInfos.xml is what you need to edit if you want no new graphics or such, but if you want to add new graphics, you will have to add a bit more. Thasis Mar 15, 2006, 05:20 PM Thanx! How would I create graphics for buildings? It isn't realy necessary, but still I would like to attempt. Rabbit_Alex Mar 15, 2006, 05:29 PM First download the Pakbuild Utility (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=136023). It lets you unpack the game's assets so you can edit them. Create a folder on your desktop and extract them there using the utility. Look through the folders that are extracted and find the .DDS files that are the skins for the buildings. You can use this DDS Converter (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=137012) program to convert them into bitmaps that you can edit. Or, if you use photoshop you can go to this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=156529) and download a plug-in that will let you open a DDS without converting it first. If you use GIMP (http://www.gimp.org) for image editing use this one (http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=4816). After installing those you can open and save DDS files without having to convert them first. After all that, good luck with editing! Thasis Mar 15, 2006, 06:42 PM Thanx! I'm going to see what I can do. Maybe add some new culture boosting buildings :D |
