I'm currently in the process of making a scenario and want to mod the religions among other things. I'm using GIMP for most of my graphics work but I'm currently having problems with the DDS format... some plugins supposedly exist but they're read-only and the only converter I've found doesn't help at all... I need some way to at least convert images to DDS to make the various buttons for the religions etc. I don't even know the correct dimensions for them since I have no way of opening DDS files.

Any help would be much appreciated!

XnView can open DDS's and convert them into other formats to editing. DDS Converter can change them back into DDS's. Both are freeware.

Ah, thanks... I actually checked on the GIMP site for plugins and only found another one which is read-only and, furthermore, was described by its own author as "half done... so don't complain about errors, there are probably lots of bugs in there still" :crazyeye: Not exactly encouraging!

I'm actually just about to try out the plugin from Rabbit_Alex's link, but I personally use DDS Converter 2.1 (http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/DDS_Converter;29412) to convert dds files to bmp, use GIMP to edit them, and then convert them back w/ Converter. It works fine for me.

That's the converter I mentioned.

I should clarify that XNView can ready DDS's, but cannot write them, which is why I use DDS Converter to change them back. It sometimes fails converting some files, for some unknown reason.
