View Full Version : Unit Preview - Blaster Master Tank
Dual Mar 17, 2006, 08:39 AM I've been working hard on my first Civ4 unit, and it's almost finished! :D It's a futuristic tank model based on the vehicle from an old NES game called Blaster Master.
I was hoping to have it posted this morning, but I ran into a problem with the Civ4 plugin for 3DS Max turning off my textures when I export the model. But I think I know what's wrong, so it should all be straightened out by tomorrow (cross your fingers for me :p ).

woodelf Mar 17, 2006, 08:49 AM Needless to say I love it.
It'll find a spot on the Moon!
Ploeperpengel Mar 17, 2006, 08:49 AM A philosophical Stone, Link and now Blaster Master. You make me curious. What kind of mod is this you're working on?

I had a feeling you'd like it Woodelf. ;)

The mod I'm slowly working on has a Final Fantasy theme to it, so all those things do fit together in it somewhat. But when you really get down to it, I'm just adding a little bit of everything I like into my game. Be it mages, videogame stuff, or even anime characters.

heh, I love your weird stuff. Why don't you just post this alltogether. There are already Mods which include basically customfolders. Think yours would be a nice add to this:)
GeoModder Mar 17, 2006, 11:17 AM 1650 poly's? A bit on the high side perhaps?
But it sure does look grand! :goodjob:

I might post it when I get more of the bugs worked out. Right now there are some major gameplay issues from all the stuff I've been throwing together. :crazyeye: And there's some python stuff I want to add first, but havn't had the time to work on yet.

Thanks. :) Yeah, it's a bit high. But I figure people will be using it as a single unit, like tanks. I might be able to get it lower, but we'll have to see.
Civmansam Mar 17, 2006, 11:28 AM I love it thanks
Dual Mar 18, 2006, 08:46 AM Well, through trial and error I've figured out the problem I was having. I had set some of the textures as a planar map to get them into position, and it seems the Civ4 plugin only likes the explicit map channel. :hammer2:
Now that I know what's going on, I just need to redraw a few of the textures to fit onto the model correctly in that setting. So I should have the unit finished either late this evening or tomorrow morning. :band:
Also, I was able to lower the polygon count down to 1322. Mostly I took it out of the wheels, so they aren't as round anymore. But you can't really tell I've changed them much when you look at the model in-game.
GeoModder Mar 18, 2006, 11:07 AM Cheers! Every poly can count for lowgraph cards. :goodjob:
woodelf Mar 18, 2006, 01:13 PM Dual - Are we going to be able to skin this oddity? I'd like to make it less bright, at least for the Moon mod. :crazyeye:
Lord Olleus Mar 18, 2006, 02:56 PM can i smell a nintendo mod here?

Yep, I'm using a .dds file to apply the textures just like the origional units. So you'll be able to change the colors and add drawn on textures like usual.
woodelf Mar 18, 2006, 03:35 PM Thanks Dual. I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Dual Mar 19, 2006, 06:22 AM All done! You can get the unit here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=3829745#post3829745
I changed the textures quite a bit, so they look different then the pic above now. There are new pics in the unit thread.
I also lowered the polygon count a bit more. It's now at 1242.
Enjoy the unit. :D
