gbno1fan Mar 17, 2006, 02:10 PM http://dailydigitalphotos.com/ben/humanities.jpg
Department Head: fe3333au
This thread is for general discussion regarding the naming of units, cities, and landmarks.
.
Memphus Apr 16, 2006, 05:39 PM Woaaahhhhhhh, were gonna have a city soon
It needs a name :)
Not to mention our first warrior needs a name too ;)
Kentharu Apr 16, 2006, 06:40 PM it shall be named BooBo, after my cat who died and never really existed :p
GLORY TO BOOBO!!
gbno1fan Apr 16, 2006, 07:22 PM Not sure where fe3333au is but...
Let's begin discussion of naming the city and the warrior.
We also need to discuss an overall theme for our naming - create a naming system.
DaveMcW Apr 16, 2006, 08:08 PM Capital: Epsilon Eridani (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epsilon_Eridani)
Memphus Apr 16, 2006, 08:16 PM Yup I am in for that one :goodjob: Let's just hope were not iron deficient
Does that mean our second city will be called Luyten 726-8
Memphus Apr 16, 2006, 08:35 PM As for our starting warrior....he needs some sort of exploratory name
lost_civantares Apr 17, 2006, 12:04 AM We could always name him Quillen Thorndike after the discoverer if we decided to be extremely boring. :p
lost_civantares Apr 17, 2006, 12:04 AM Edit: sorry, extra post.
fe3333au Apr 17, 2006, 03:01 AM I was waiting for the Screenie ... and now realised discussion should have begun prior .... sorry
Hmmm interesting ideas .... I will add.
The Screen is not very inspiring ...
http://img7.picsplace.to/img7/14/team-epsilon-start.jpg (http://picsplace.to/)
City
I'm thinking something more simple ... Genesis ... or 5th Seed
As to Warrior ... What about Seeker ... or Rover
Nomenclature for Workers ...
I propose named after players in team in order of joining ... if they get captured, killed ... another will be named but with a 'II' added yo indicate 2nd ... etc.
When we run out of team member names ... other options will be discussed.
System for individual Units
As to a system to distinguish between differing unit types, I'm not so sure that it is needed due to type being displayed whenever the unit is accessed by another team ... however I'd hear your thoughts.
So Let me know what you think soon as we may need to vote.
Also ... As I do not have a cIV working ... I will also need someone to supply what can be labeled :D
gpno1fan ... Do I report here or your thread so that you can pass orders on naming to President
... if upto me, I'd say you look here for naming instructions.
gbno1fan Apr 17, 2006, 07:10 AM I'll look here for names. I've set this thread to send me emails so I'll be checking if frequently.
I'm in favor of the workers being named after players.
I guess we don't need the system for unit types. I wasn't aware that Civ4 displays that information.
I like Rover for the warrior. Do we have anything Chinese-ish for the city? I assume it will be our capital and it may be nice to have it sort of fit the civ (that is our civ, right? It's been so long...)
fe3333au Apr 17, 2006, 08:25 AM Why be chinese? ... Epsilon is not chinese!
The whole point of having creativity in nomenclature is to not be constrained by presets.
So far we have three options
> Epsilon Eridani
> Genesis
> 5th Seed
... I'm assuming Kentharu's cat was a spammish joke :p
gbno1fan Apr 17, 2006, 08:33 AM I agree that we need to be creative. I was only suggesting something Chinese for the first city. However, I have granted you full command over this department, and I have no intention of changing that.
Of the three options, I prefer Epsilon Eridani, with a twist. Let's leave it as Eridani - let the other teams put the 2 together.
Genesis seems too generic for some reason, and we've already used the concept of 5th seed in the creation of our passwords.
General_W Apr 17, 2006, 07:35 PM My first choice would be "Epsilon Eridani" - I think that's fabulous!
Second choice would be "Genesis" - love that too. Maybe it could be a second city name... throw them off a bit :crazyeye:
If we do go with the "Epsilon Eridani" - I think it's important to keep the "Epsilon" in there... I like the idea of having the team name in our capital city.
That's my vote anyway.
Memphus Apr 17, 2006, 08:24 PM I'm With General W on this one I like keekping Epsilon in our Capital Name.
I Also Like naming our Workers after team members in order of joining,
As For individual Units, Personally think if they win a heroic battle (i.e. low odds, capturing a city, defending a city in crisis) It should be renamed after a team Member, sitting Office:
For example if DaveMcW was our president and on the interim we get declared war on and one of our unsuspecting units pulls of a heroic victory he could be named: DaveMcW the Resiliant
Or if Our current Secretary General of Defense let's use, azzaman333 decides it is time to go to war the unit which finally conquers a city could be called:
Azzman333 The conquerer of XXX (insert city name here)
For the mean time though they should have generic names which can later be "upgraded" as they upgrade ;)
[COLOR="DarkRed"]
[B]Also ... As I do not have a cIV working ... I will also need someone to supply what can be labeled :D
fe3333au do you own the game? If so pm me and we can talk :)
Methos Apr 17, 2006, 09:45 PM I like Dave's suggestion of Epsilon Eridani, keeping the team name as part of the city name.
fe3333au Apr 17, 2006, 11:27 PM I don't have the game :(
That's why I'm wondering if it is possible ... also I am not the only one else I wouldn't have asked :D
lost_civantares Apr 18, 2006, 12:01 AM You can name units in the game, just click on the name and a pop-up should come up asking for a new name, so a worker of our's would be shown in the game to be "Fe3333au (worker)".
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5495/ceceliaandpeter8lc.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
fe3333au Apr 18, 2006, 12:38 AM Thanks lost_civantares :salute:
I like that the renaming options have been extended in this game to include virtually everything.
So any other options on naming our military?
While I like the comments made regarding adding titles ... I'm not sure I like totally changing the name ... mind you the topic is and will always be, open to debate and concensus :)
What I'd like to discuss is should we have a naming regime for each type of military unit path ... or have them named individually as they are produced?
What do I mean by this?
Well an example is that all 'like' units all share a common theme in their name ... maybe a feline theme ... so units of that particular type having names like Tiger Sin, Edward the Lion, The Ocelot, Drunken Lynx, etc.
You get the idea ... so that each are itentifiable and can also show those that have survived to be upgraded.
Thoughts?
Could someone also post a list of early units that we would be likely to produce in the early stages of the game.
lost_civantares Apr 18, 2006, 12:48 AM From memory:
In the early (ie first or second tier of techs):
-Warrior
-Worker
-Settler
-Archer
-Swordsman
-Axeman
-Chariot
-Horseman
Sounds like a good idea, especially the compartlamized system.
fe3333au Apr 18, 2006, 12:57 AM Thanks again ... this will help alot :)
... for a lurker you are very active
peter grimes Apr 19, 2006, 09:21 PM For what it's worth, Epsilon Eridani.... or was it Epsilon Eriadni? :)
fe3333au Apr 21, 2006, 02:55 AM :bump: Any more discussion about naming or leave it upto this department?
So far ...
Capital name
Epsilon Eridani
> K2 star with planetary system, 3rd closest to us, nearest with solar compatable.
> StarTrek ... where Vulcan's home planet is located.
> Foundation (Asimov) ... first world for 2nd wave of settlers.
> Babylon 5 location.
Genesis
> self evident.
However after researching what about ... Delphic Epsilon
> which is the symbol of the 'Epsilon Team', whicjh our team is based on (sort of)
> looking like two Epsilons connected back to back and considered to appear on their "UFOs" and on ancient Greek and Inca monuments as well. Their "UFOs" are also supposed to have the word "Ελευθερία" (Freedom, in Greek) on them.
Other Cities
... decided later and may incorporate the surrounding environment.
Workers
... after team names order of joining as per list Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=158188)
Settler
... not needed
... however if we have many, Turntaker may assign name to help differentiate for reporting purposes.
Units
... unit types (when produced) are given a theme.
Options
> Warrior
... Feline (Puma, Tiger, Panther, etc)
> Archer
... Trees (Oak, Elm, Ash, etc)
> Swordsman
... Snakes (Asp, Viper, Rattler, Boa, Python, etc)
> Axeman
... Forest Animals (Boar, Bull, Elk, etc)
> Chariot
... Insects (Wasp, Hornet, Mantis, etc)
> Horseman
... Birds of Prey (Eagle, Falcon, Hawk, etc)
Scouts ... is there such a unit?
Naval and Artillery ... and later Air units
... may also follow the Land Unit system
... naval more creativity.
... naval more creativity.
Please add ideas especially regarding categories for land units
gbno1fan Apr 21, 2006, 07:08 AM I would like to add that since we have now received the save, I need to have a capital name as soon as possible.
I like Epsilon Eridani (especially now that I see it has a star trek reference - I am a trekkie, though not a freakish one).
fe3333au Apr 21, 2006, 09:00 AM go with it ... just added the other option for discussion
... although just musing as I am apt to do after a long dance back from pub ... Epsilon Eridandi a slight modification, sounds ... ummm ... cute and frivolously humourous
gbno1fan Apr 21, 2006, 10:16 PM We need a name for our warrior.
If we do not come up with one by the next turn is played, he will be named Tiger.
fe3333au Apr 22, 2006, 02:12 AM OK First Warrior ... Shadow Tiger
Question for gbno1fan ... Do I post here final names or is this a discussion thread and I post somewhere else? ... or do you post here with specific requests (with a bit of time to discuss possibilities) actually adding a deadline would be good ... sorry I'm a bit unsure of the proceedure?
gbno1fan Apr 23, 2006, 05:22 PM Fe - That's a good idea. I'll post with specific requests, giving you a bit of time to discuss and come up with an idea. I hope to be able to give you rather long deadlines (say a week?) but that is dependant on the speed of the movement of turns.
DaveMcW Apr 23, 2006, 05:23 PM Please post final instructions here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=168375).
fe3333au Apr 24, 2006, 05:01 AM OK so I'll just discuss and finalise here ... and gbno1fan will post to President :salute:
gbno1fan Apr 26, 2006, 09:23 PM We have 9 turns to decide on a name for our next warrior.
I'm not sure how long that will take, but let's aim on having a name by this time next week.
Kentharu Apr 27, 2006, 09:52 PM can we please name it BooBoo!! PLEASE!!! Sir BooBoo the mighty warrior, crashing through your town, pillaging and ummm...
YEA SIR BOOBOO!!
fe3333au Apr 28, 2006, 04:01 AM See what people think Ken
I'll submit ... Lurking Puma
Memphus Apr 28, 2006, 01:15 PM Well I still think units should be nameless until something good happens to them (i.e. our first warrior would have gotten the name "Horse Tammer" or "Cow Tamer"):p
fe3333au Apr 29, 2006, 04:19 AM  Oh that's a bit harsh Memphus ...
Our poor military have to prove themselves before they get an honourable name ... most likely they'd end up staying in the barracks (when we have one built) and just get drunk
Kentharu Apr 29, 2006, 08:56 AM i think units should go to Memphus' house.... pillage... and what not
and further more BOOOBOOOBBOBOOBOBOBOBOBO SIR BOO BOO sir booboo i know you guys like the name so why not just admit it ok? cause you know denial is the first stage/step/sign/whatever it really is
Civmansam Apr 30, 2006, 06:41 PM I say keeping with the night theme...
Nocturnal Panther
Shady Lion
Dark Puma
Sneaky Tiger
Leoperd Assasin
Any of those are good for me
peter grimes Apr 30, 2006, 07:18 PM Dark Puma is a strong name. It honors the Noble Puma!
gbno1fan May 10, 2006, 07:07 AM What have we decided for the next Warrior's name?
I would also like to see some landmarks named. We have a river, hills, and a couple of mountains.
Here are some screenshots to use:
http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot00513mg.jpg
http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot00584ht.jpg
fe3333au May 10, 2006, 07:23 AM Dark Puma is the option that Peter suggested, I like it too.
gbno1fan May 10, 2006, 07:28 AM Excellent! Dark Puma it is.
Also, I x-post edited with you, fe. Not sure if you noticed or not.
peter grimes May 10, 2006, 01:31 PM Credit where credit is due: Civmansam came up with Dark Puma, I merely voiced support :)
lost_civantares May 10, 2006, 06:29 PM If you are looking for names for the mountain:
-Daggertop Mountain
-Ironmaiden Hill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_maiden_%28torture_device%29)
-Inquisition Mount
-Sirian's Shackle
Can you tell I've taken to the darker aspect of our name in nomenclature?
Civmansam May 11, 2006, 06:33 PM Credit where credit is due: Civmansam came up with Dark Puma, I merely voiced support :)
Thanks! :goodjob:
gbno1fan May 26, 2006, 10:11 AM What should we name the river and the mountain range to the south?
DaveMcW May 26, 2006, 10:28 AM We also need a name for the lonely mountain in the eastern plain.
fe3333au May 26, 2006, 11:04 AM Any chance to post a picture here ... could help with inspiration.
So what do people think
... should terrain be descriptive names?
... or something else, even prominant team members?
I like ... Lonesome Peak or maybe Finger Post for single mountain.
Great Southern River for the ummm ... river ??
Might want to wait to see if the southern mountain range is actually a range or a Ridge before naming it ... if it is what about ... Sawback Range (Ridge)
General_W May 26, 2006, 01:19 PM I like Lonesome peak...
How about "DragonMount"
And the big Mountain range to our south could be called "The Spine of the World"
(both nods to the Wheel of Time series)
Other ideas…
Mystery Peak
Mystery River
Riddle River
Mt. Shadow & Light
River of Mist
Just throwing ideas up against the wall – maybe something will stick :)
lost_civantares May 26, 2006, 05:07 PM Sirian's Spear might be an interesting title for the mountain range...
General_W May 26, 2006, 05:51 PM Oh - I like the idea of "Sirian's Spear" for the single Mountain!
Very nice!
DaveMcW May 26, 2006, 06:32 PM River Eridanus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eridanus_%28constellation%29)

fe3333au May 26, 2006, 07:00 PM Nice connection with Epsilon Eridani theme :D
EDIT ... X-post ... thanks for images ;)
gbno1fan May 30, 2006, 07:18 AM Need a name for our new warrior.
Memphus May 30, 2006, 07:23 AM Need a name for our new warrior.
??? (We just gave birth to a Hard Working Peter Grimes)
Our next Warrior isn't due for ~20 turns, :mischief: Although maybe you are being very proactive :goodjob:
EDIT: Oh man that was my fault on the inter turn for the State of the Empire... Day one as temporary president and already bumbling it up :(
It has been changed now... :)
gbno1fan May 30, 2006, 07:33 AM Yeah Memphus you caught me quite by surprise - not a good idea early in the morning on a day after a holiday and the week before finals!
Never mind the name for the next Warrior for now.
DaveMcW Jul 18, 2006, 09:51 AM The next warrior will be born in a few turns! His job will be keeping the residents of the capital happy.
So what should his name be?
lost_civantares Jul 18, 2006, 10:06 AM The Eternal Eye (though I guess that could be a city name)
Guardian of the Peace
gbno1fan Jul 18, 2006, 11:18 AM I think we should stick with the Feline theme for the warriors.
Maybe something with Panther.
We could go Pink Panther...
lost_civantares Jul 18, 2006, 01:45 PM Bah, it must be something dark and Epsilionian! This is not the team for mere foolishness! :p
How about "Dagger Tiger"?
DaveMcW Jul 18, 2006, 02:00 PM Crouching Tiger?
But I do like Pink Panther. If an enemy penetrates all the way to the capital, maybe we can kill them with laughter. :p
De dant, de dant, de dant, de dant, de dant, de dant, de dant, de-daaa ...
lost_civantares Jul 18, 2006, 02:02 PM I agree, Crouching Tiger fits, especially as he will be fortifyed for quite a while (he's going to the capital guard, right?).
gbno1fan Jul 18, 2006, 02:50 PM While I like Crouching Tiger, I would prefer it if we cycled through as many different types of felines before reusing some with different adjectives.
Since we have Shadow Tiger, I think we should try to use a different feline.
Felines to consider: Panther, Bobcat, Lynx, Cheetah, Leopard, Cougar, Jaguar, Liger, Lion, Tigon, etc.
General_W Jul 18, 2006, 03:23 PM How about "Iron Jaguar" – sounds like a tough defensive unit to me!
And as a side note: I think "Eternal Eye" would make an awesome city name! (good one Lost Civ!)
lost_civantares Jul 18, 2006, 04:32 PM Fire Lion and Night Cougar might also be ideas.
@General_W: Thanks! :)
peter grimes Jul 19, 2006, 09:45 PM Felines to consider: Panther, Bobcat, Lynx, Cheetah, Leopard, Cougar, Jaguar, Liger, Lion, Tigon, etc.
Panther is a good place to start....
Veiled Panther
Savvy Panther
Stalwart Panther
Shrouded Panther
gbno1fan Aug 02, 2006, 08:33 AM I like Iron Jaguar or Veiled Panther.
What do you all prefer out of these 2?
Civmansam Aug 02, 2006, 08:54 AM I like Veiled Panther myself.
Iron Jaguar isn't a dark name, (and I thought we we're going with the dark feline theme)
lost_civantares Aug 02, 2006, 09:12 AM I like Iron Jaguar, but it would fit better with a later unit (ie a swordsman or an axeman).
General_W Aug 02, 2006, 11:06 AM Yeah - maybe save the Iron thing for later.
Veiled Panther get's my vote
(But I really like the "Stalwart" adj. that Peter came up with - lets keep that in mind for later)
Memphus Aug 02, 2006, 12:36 PM Sorry to throw this out into the mix with the choice of a warrior name, but we need to decide the following as well:
New City Name (10 turns away)
If we want to name the settler (he will go away after 3 turns of runnign to his new city)
lost_civantares Aug 02, 2006, 12:47 PM I suggested "Eternal Eye" eariler.
Other ideas are "The Omniscient Eye".
Since we are heading for the darker areas of names, something else to think about is to make 1984ish Orwellian type names.
General_W Aug 03, 2006, 11:45 AM I really like "Eternal Eye" - it still has a dark edge to it, fits our theme, and even continues the E.E. pattern of our capital.
Also - as this will likely be a holy city, I think having "eternal" in the name is extra fitting somehow.
gbno1fan Aug 03, 2006, 11:55 AM Veiled Panther it is for the warrior.
I like Eternal Eye as well.
Any other suggestions?
peter grimes Aug 03, 2006, 07:58 PM I like Eternal Eye... but I dont' think we need to name the Settler. If we have several settlers out-and-about, then naming might help keep things simple, but no need at this point.
I'm really a fan of the Orwellian potential, but I'll have to brush-up a bit first ;)
DaveMcW Aug 03, 2006, 11:17 PM Even if we don't name the settler, we need to name the city he builds. ;)
lost_civantares Aug 03, 2006, 11:30 PM Bah! We'll just put a space for the name! (can you even do that? I should try.)
peter grimes Aug 07, 2006, 07:47 PM Seems as if there's a bit of support for the next city (possibly a holy one!) to be called Eternal Eye, unless I'm misreading things.
Just for the sake of variety (so people don't think there aren't choices):
Eternal Gaze
Maddening Sight
Eternal Light
Sacred Oracle
Astral Plain
I'm just putting these out here for fun. My favorite is Eternal Eye.
gbno1fan Oct 03, 2006, 07:51 AM A warrior was produced in the Capital:
1. He needs a name
Our next feline is Bobcat. We need an adjective to go along with it.
Suggestions?
DaveMcW Oct 03, 2006, 11:59 AM Black Bobcat
Bad Bobcat
Bob Bobcat
lost_civantares Oct 03, 2006, 03:44 PM We need something dangerous or spy like, not silly.
How about Bladed Bobcat? Bladecat? Something along those lines.
gbno1fan Oct 03, 2006, 04:08 PM We need something dangerous or spy like, not silly.
You mean you don't like something like "Bobby the Bobcat" or "Billy Bob Bobcat"?
Bladed Bobcat would be good for a swordsman.
lost_civantares Oct 03, 2006, 08:09 PM It just doesn't seem to suit the type of characterization that we have put forth to me.
We need a thread for names that will suit later units! I keep on doing this!
peter grimes Oct 05, 2006, 07:18 AM Sly Bobcat
Grey Bobcat
Restive Bobcat
Memphus Oct 05, 2006, 11:58 AM Well The turn should be here in 24 hours so A name needs to be decided.
If not by the time I play the save his name will be Unknown Bobcat
gbno1fan Oct 05, 2006, 10:19 PM What will this unit's primary purpose be? Exploring or Domestic Defense?
Memphus Oct 05, 2006, 11:03 PM What will this unit's primary purpose be? Exploring or Domestic Defense?
That is up to Twistlock...but I am assuming, He will be exploring to the East
with the warrior comming out of eternal eye going south and a second warrior from the capital being the defensive unit for Eternal Eye.
But that is my opinion and we will have to wait and see :)
azzaman333 Oct 05, 2006, 11:59 PM Bubba Bobcat?
gbno1fan Oct 06, 2006, 07:16 AM Sly Bobcat it is.
Next up in line of felines: Lynx, Cheetah, Leopard, Cougar, Jaguar, Liger, Lion, Tigon
Memphus Oct 06, 2006, 07:28 AM Sly Bobcat it is.
Next up in line of felines: Lynx, Cheetah, Leopard, Cougar, Jaguar, Liger, Lion, Tigon
No pressure or anything guys, but we have 3 more warriors comming out in the next 3 turns, so let the creativity flow :goodjob:
azzaman333 Oct 06, 2006, 08:06 AM Lethal Lynx, Crazy Cheetah, Greg the Leopard.
(Hooray for crappy names!)
classical_hero Oct 06, 2006, 08:07 AM How about Perth Lynx? That is an actual women's basketball team from my city. :D
azzaman333 Oct 06, 2006, 08:11 AM How about Perth Lynx? That is an actual women's basketball team from my city. :D
Wait, there's womens basketball in Australia?:crazyeye:
classical_hero Oct 06, 2006, 08:18 AM Wait, there's womens basketball in Australia?:crazyeye:
yes and we won the Basketball championship to. :D :woohoo:
gbno1fan Oct 06, 2006, 10:57 AM Perth Lynx for the next Warrior.
I like the adjective Lethal. We can use that with Leopard. Lethal Leopard.
What about Cheetah? Anything other than Crazy?
twistlok Oct 06, 2006, 11:00 AM Chester Cheetah?
Chasing Cheeta, Cheetara (DC Comics villan), Well Rested Cheeta who Loves Bacon
lost_civantares Oct 06, 2006, 11:05 PM Chasing Cheeta works well. :)
Crouching Couger?
DaveMcW Oct 07, 2006, 05:10 AM Chester Cheetah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester_Cheetah) :D
classical_hero Oct 07, 2006, 09:56 AM So they are edible snacks for the barbs and animals? :hmm:
General_W Oct 09, 2006, 10:42 AM What about Cheetah? Anything other than Crazy?
Here are a few from me…. Covert Cheetah - Concealed Cheetah – Cheetah Contra
Trying to stick to "mysterious words"
gbno1fan Oct 09, 2006, 11:10 AM I am inclined towards Chester Cheetah. Mainly because I can imagine what it would be like to be on another team, finding names like Dark Puma, Sly Bobcat, etc. only to all of a sudden find Chester Cheetah.
However, if we go that route we may also have to make a Tony the Tiger at some point.
gbno1fan Oct 19, 2006, 06:52 PM Cougar and Jaguar are next on the list.
Let's get some adjectives lined up.
lost_civantares Oct 19, 2006, 06:54 PM Jousting Jaguar?
Combat(ive) Cougar?
Do we have/need a name for city #3?
General_W Oct 20, 2006, 10:30 AM Yeah, we need a name for city #3... I believe Copper-Town is the next place to be settled...
In keeping with our theme, I suggest the following:
1) Immortal Stronghold
2) Golden Shield
peter grimes Oct 20, 2006, 12:37 PM I like Immortal Stronghold!
Cougar and Jaguar, eh?......
Furtive Cougar
Piercing Jaguar
Able Cougar
Steely Jaguar
Sprung Cougar
lost_civantares Oct 20, 2006, 05:01 PM Immortal Stronghold is neat. :)
Furtive Cougar and Able Cougar is also cool.
classical_hero Oct 24, 2006, 08:38 AM With one of our units, we have to name him Tigger then. :D
peter grimes Nov 08, 2006, 08:09 PM Seems that Immortal Strong... didn't turn out to be named the way we hoped.
Here are some other thoughts, to get the ball rolling:
Infinite Keep
Strength of All
Immortal Might
Undying Force
Memphus Nov 08, 2006, 09:38 PM We also need a name for our second worker....wait forget that we already decided on this...my bad our second joining Memeber was:
Well that is weird I can't seem to find it.
Do our old threads get removed?
Where is for example Turn Order Term 1?
peter grimes Nov 08, 2006, 10:16 PM Hey Memphus - check into your User CP stuff. There's a thing in there where you can choose how many threads the forums show, whether only from the last 30 days, 6 months, 1 year, etc. You can also choose how many posts to show per page (I think the default is 20). I have mine set on 10 because my compy is so slow.
General_W Nov 09, 2006, 11:04 AM Here are some other thoughts, to get the ball rolling:
Infinite Keep
Strength of All
Immortal Might
Undying Force
ooooh! Those are great!!
These are my top 3 (in order)
1) Infinite Keep
2) Strength of All
3) Immortal Might
I'm not as big of a fan of "Undying Force" -- sounds kind of like a zombie movie to me!
Here's my contribution to the mix... "Pillar of Epsilon"
gbno1fan Nov 09, 2006, 11:11 AM @Memphus - Our current roster (and order of sign-up) can also be found in the sign-up thread for the game. Here it is, anyway:

Re: Immortal Stronghold - I like Immortal Keep or Infinite Keep.
General_W Nov 09, 2006, 11:41 AM hmm - I think I read too hastily.
As far as REnaming "Immortal Strong" goes - I like gbno1fan's suggestion - "Immortal Keep" best.
The others on my list were meant for future cities!
(now reading more slowly...)
peter grimes Nov 09, 2006, 07:51 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Italian Voice is not at all interested in this game ;)
As much as I enjoyed exchanging emails and game-theoretical tracts, I find it hard to believe that Italian Voice will be checking on Epsilon Team!'s progress

I think we should still use the name for a worker. Whether she is a contributor to the team or not, ItalianVoice has played a part in our experience here and deserves to be mentioned.

Wow.... Very true in that there was a contribution to what took place in this thread, she has not logged in for a very long time. ;)
Ultimately I have no opinion on the matter and nor should I for a various amount of reasons. :(
peter grimes Nov 09, 2006, 09:17 PM Well I certainly won't stand in the way!
I have nothing but the highest regard for Italian Voice, and would love to see a monument erected to commorate his / her involvement. If that monument happens to take the form of a slave servant disciple believer [that's the one!] then I will be the first to say:
Huzzah! Huzzah!! Huzzah!!!
ItalianVoice Nov 09, 2006, 09:58 PM Well I certainly won't stand in the way!

Well Like I said I have been very unactive as my purpose has been served. If you wish to name a worker (what is that by the way...Memphus tells me they are important for Civ4?!?!) after me then so be it. If not I understand.
In any event as mentioned my purpose has been served and I wish you all the best of luck in the game. :)
Sincerely, Memphus's better half, the one who really control's the game we call 'life' or RL.
His Wife :p
gbno1fan Nov 15, 2006, 07:18 AM We need to name a warrior from Immortal Keep. I have gone back through the thread to find suggestions for Cougar, and come up with a few of my own.
Please select the top 2 from this list:
Combative Cougar
Cool Cougar
Courageous Cougar
Creepy Cougar
Crazy Cougar
Crouching Cougar
Cover Cougar
Concealed Cougar
Night Cougar
Furtive Cougar
Able Cougar
peter grimes Nov 15, 2006, 09:24 AM I like Night Couger, myself :)
General_W Nov 15, 2006, 11:40 AM Yeah, Night Couger gets my vote also!
azzaman333 Nov 16, 2006, 01:49 AM I'd call it Futile Conga. (I guess thats why I'm not in charge of naming units )
twistlok Nov 16, 2006, 02:28 PM Congealed err I mean Conceled Cougar and Creepy Cougar both kind of rock. Night Couger would be my third.
peter grimes Nov 16, 2006, 08:56 PM I've gotta nip this in the bud here: Cougar, not couger.
And I hate the elision 'gotta'. It's just lazy.
I also prefer not to start sentences with a conjunction ;)
gbno1fan Nov 17, 2006, 07:20 AM I like Night Couger, myself
...You started it... ;)
Night Cougar wins.
peter grimes Nov 17, 2006, 08:52 AM Good catch! Is that what makes you so good at counting beans?
General_W Dec 12, 2006, 12:20 AM We’ve neglected talking about new city names for a while.
We have an immediate need for a name for our new city to be settled this turn (98)
I’d like to propose: Port of Mists
Our next town to be settled will be at location “West Gate” on the peninsula leading to Piffle.
I’d propose naming that town: Guardians Hold
Hope that gets the ball rolling!
(and I avoided any more “e” names… though I personally don’t find it that confusing… ;) )
gbno1fan Dec 12, 2006, 08:53 AM I was hoping to let our new Provost handle the naming of things from now on, but since he is on vacation this week and there is an immediate need, I will put my support on Port of Mists.
It has a nice ring to it, avoids the confusion that some faced with EE, and fits the location.
peter grimes Dec 16, 2006, 10:06 AM I know I'm not the Provost, but I thought I'd propose an idea:
All of our warriors were named after animals of the mighty family "Felidae".
Now the we are about to have Axemen pumping out every three turns, I propose we find a new class of animals to define this new class of unit. This will help to distinguish what type a particular unit is (hopefully keep confusion to a minimum)
Some possibilities
Rodentia (axemen can cut down trees, like rodents!)
Serpentes (snakes)
Aves (birdies)
THoguhts?
Memphus Dec 16, 2006, 10:13 AM Personally I am for naming units based on thier proposed duties / region on the map.
I.E. "Mist Man" (I realize that is a bad name) Infers that this axeman will be around Port of Mists so When posting about him you can Visualize it.
On the Other Hand "Crazy Snake" could be anywhere.
I.E. "Gate Keeper" is pretty self explanatory as well.
But I am all for naming units anything, I just don't want to make another blunder
Memphus Jan 01, 2007, 01:28 PM We have 2 Axemen without a name
1 City next turn that in the absence of another name will be called "West Gate"
peter grimes Jan 01, 2007, 08:00 PM Sunset Fortress?
Again, with the Axemen, I propose that we adhere to the 'Feline' theme of our other Melee units.
lost_civantares Jan 03, 2007, 06:00 PM Axeman naming ideas:
-Snow leopard
-Mysterious Margay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margay)
-Krazy Kodkod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodkod)
peter grimes Jan 04, 2007, 08:01 AM I like them all, but I disapprove of the spelling of Krazy. Call me an old fart, but advertizing slang has no place in polite company :old:
General_W Jan 04, 2007, 10:44 AM I like the idea of renaming WestGate to Sunset Fortress… in fact I like that a lot!
Then, as a corollary, we could name the EastGate location city something like Sunrise Stronghold (what's our character limit again?)
I also like the proposed Axemen names… but I'm with Peter on not liking misspelled words… you could say, I'm not krazy about them… (booo! Hiss!!)
How about "Knowing KodKod" ?
Memphus Jan 04, 2007, 06:17 PM I like the idea of renaming WestGate to Sunset Fortress… in fact I like that a lot!

While I like Sunset Fortress, and without any objection will change the name next turn.
However In the future if we could have the names choosen sooner so that we can all get familiar with them in posting (even before founding)
Meaning that for the past 15 Turns I have been reporting on a West Gate, which is now going to be Sunset Fortress.
So with that said if we could have some names for:
Clam Cove
Wool & Whales
sooner it would be much appreciated :)
azzaman333 Jan 05, 2007, 12:34 AM How about...
For Clam Cove, Great Bay
For Wool & Whale, White Wash
Memphus Jan 06, 2007, 11:19 AM Lost Civ:
Please Post Order in the Turn Orders term 6 thread so that I know which Axeman you wan to name what.
Personally I prefer name that relate the unit to where it is Example: Mist Man, Sunset Keeper
But that doesn't have to be the case.
Here are the units we currently have Unammed
2 Axemen in Eternal Eye.
1 Axeman in Immortal Keep.
There will be 1 more axeman arriving every 3 turns in Eternal Eye as well.
lost_civantares Jan 06, 2007, 12:24 PM Okay then,
Right now we have-
Knowing KodKod --> Axemen in Immortal Keep
Mysterious Margay--> 1st Axemen in Eternal Eye
Snow leopard --> 2nd Axeman in Eternal Eye
General_W Jan 09, 2007, 11:11 AM Ok…
As Memphus has requested, we can certainly try to name these cities now to reduce confusion for when we actually settle them.
Here's a map with no names for reference:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c232/GeneralW/109-GridOnlySettlementMap.jpg
*Note: Clam Cove location will be moving 1 tile East to the hilltop
* in current proposed order of settlement…
Old Name – General_W proposed New Name
Clam Cove – Overlook Bay
Wool & Whales – Point Defiance
East Gate – Sunrise Stronghold
Jungle Iron Works – Mountain Citadel
Gem Slave mines – Watcher's Bulwark
Frozen Iron – Northern Redoubt
One Horse Town – Scion City
Mystic Hills – Sanctuary West
Just adding my ideas! What do you think? Other ideas?
lost_civantares Jan 16, 2007, 05:15 PM Needs:
We have an Unnamed Axeman wandering around, desperate for a name.
-What are our thoughts about something around Carniverous Kitty, Sharp Tooth, or Pouncing Pu ssy, or is that too silly?
-The city the barbs have built for us, does everyone like Point Defiance? any other ideas?
Edit: Weird, the forum is blocking P U SS Y:confused:
Memphus Jan 16, 2007, 06:00 PM Edit: Weird, the forum is blocking P U SS Y:confused:

General_W Jan 16, 2007, 06:33 PM  - yeah… I think we should probably stay away from any potential double entendres for our unit names ;) - Sharp Tooth is good… I think that was the name of the T-Rex in Land Before time though… yes, I'm a nerd.
What about Dark Puma II ?
Also – I hunted through the threads and figured out that the game must have a 15 Character limit on our city names. That ruled out quite a few of my proposed suggestions – so I've modified the whole list.
Since I didn't get any other feedback – I just went ahead and slapped my proposed names on the map.
This is, of course, the Minister of Nomenclature's decision – and I'll be happy to edit any of this that he'd like.
In the meantime – I hope this helps everyone (especially our dear president) start to get more familiar with the names our cities are ultimately likely to be named. (so there's no confusion with switching from Code Names :) ) I also tried to keep each name distinct, to minimize any possibility of confusion about which city we're talking about.
I also tried to stick with the theme we're developing as a team, and also combine some attribute of the city location into the name, to aid in ease of memory. Some of these references are pretty obscure (Like 'Argyle' referring to the largest diamond mine in the world in the name of our Gem heavy location on the coast) but others should be quite a bit more obvious.
Current Cities:
Epsilon Eridani
Sunset Fortress
Immortal Keep
Eternal Eye
Port of Mists
New City Names
(And the code name location they are replacing…)
Overlook Bay (Clam Cove)
Point Defiance (wool & Whales)
Sunrise Citadel (East Gate)
Mighty Bulwark (Jungle Iron Works)
Argyle's Watch (Gem Slave mines)
Icy Redoubt (Frozen Iron)
Scion City (One Horse Town)
Mystic Hills – Sanctuary West (14)
And here's a map with all those names on it:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c232/GeneralW/113-SettlementPlan_newNames_v1.jpg
Any comments this time around? :)
Memphus Jan 16, 2007, 06:45 PM As an Honour for Dark Puma I would Propose changing
Point Defiance to "Puma Point" or "Dark Point" :)
But it really doesn't matter to me.
peter grimes Feb 01, 2007, 12:52 PM Should we implement a Categorical system for naming Seige weapons? We currently have 2 catapults that remain unnamed.
I kind of like the idea of naming tham after emotions:
Fear
Malice
Spite
Anger
Melancholy
...you get the idea ;)
lost_civantares Feb 01, 2007, 09:24 PM Crushing fear?
peter grimes Feb 01, 2007, 09:50 PM Oooh!!!! :)
Crushing Fear,
Impending Doom,
Blinding Anxiety,
Debilitating Melancholy,
Crushing Force
Anyone have preferences for what our existing Catapults should be called? If not, the Minister of Defense will choose a couple names from these lists next turn :salute:
lost_civantares Feb 03, 2007, 09:13 AM Knock your self out. :p
General_W Feb 04, 2007, 01:39 AM I really like those! Fantastic
Memphus Mar 08, 2007, 07:52 PM Ok Next turn due to innactivity I am naming all the units ;)
Also Wern't We supposed to have an election?
peter grimes Mar 08, 2007, 09:11 PM Yeah - I've been bad about the naming stuff as well. I formally apologize for letting 4 Macemen come out without names.
Not that I have any great suggestions :crazyeye:
gbno1fan Mar 13, 2007, 03:39 PM Could I get a list of all the units that need to be named?
I think I'll put together a list of adjectives and a list of possible names, and Memphis can simply mix and match.
For example:
Adjectives:
Happy
Smart
Phony
Names:
Eagle
Cardinal
Owl
Then Memphis could get the following names:
Happy Owl, Smart Cardinal, Phony Eagle, Phony Owl, etc.
DaveMcW Mar 13, 2007, 03:43 PM 3 macemen and counting.
3 boats and counting.
0 chu-ko-nu's and counting.
gbno1fan Mar 13, 2007, 03:46 PM Thanks, Dave. I'll get on making a list of adjectives/possible names.
Don't expect it til later this week though - I have a 12 page paper, a written final (up to 10 pages), and an exam all tomorrow...
peter grimes Mar 13, 2007, 04:01 PM There are additionally 2 Explorers, if I'm not mistaken.
Some other adjectives to throw around:
Thrifty
Crafty
Wizened
Virtuous
Noble
Clever
Sharp
Icy
Lazy
Gazing
...
azzaman333 Mar 14, 2007, 07:04 AM I personally feel the name 'International Tractor' is a very good name.
classical_hero Apr 06, 2007, 05:49 AM We have three workers to name. I have suggested that we name tha after these three people in our list. I would name then DaveMcW, Memphus and gbno1fan.
classical_hero Apr 16, 2007, 09:40 AM We need some names for the workers, because it is getting hard to say which worker is which when I make some orders.
DaveMcW May 07, 2007, 10:23 AM I'd like to name our newly liberated barbarian city Dune, since it is built on a desert tile and supplies us with spice.
Memphus May 07, 2007, 12:06 PM I'd like to name our newly liberated barbarian city Dune, since it is built on a desert tile and supplies us with spice.
Haha that is great :)..I wonder who else will pick up on the double entendre there.
Can be Done! :goodjob:
General_W May 07, 2007, 12:11 PM :agree: Very clever.
When will that city get big enough for us to take it? Is there anyway to know?
Memphus May 07, 2007, 12:22 PM :agree: Very clever.
When will that city get big enough for us to take it? Is there anyway to know?
It is covered in the newly posted SoE thread. Next turn it will be ours
DaveMcW May 08, 2007, 01:09 AM I know we have a lot of inactive team members, but I'd rather name a worker after them than leave it blank.
