View Full Version : The Evolution Game
RoboPig Mar 18, 2006, 06:56 PM INFO: In this game, the players will create and develop a species in an enviroment. Inspired by Will Wright's Spore
RULES: Every 2 days or so i will post a poll which will come in one of four categories:
1. Information
2. Mutation
3. Add On
4. Other
All players will read the poll and post their vote. I will add on to the creature and post the next poll. The game will continue for atleast ten turns and then in every poll afterwards the players will be allowed to vote to finish developing the creature.
The option with the most votes will win, in case of a tie a tiebreaker will be run. if the tie breaker ends in a tie then a new poll will be set up with new options.
In the Beginning i will post information on the enviroment and in every post afterwards a description of the creature will be availible.
There is no limit to the number of players. You can join in the middle of the game

How small are we going to start with, single cell?
RoboPig Mar 19, 2006, 02:11 PM [in]
How small are we going to start with, single cell?
Yup, but one of the first (probably the second) decisions will be to determine size when we become multicellular.
btw, if we get 15 sign ups i will end sign ups prematurely because that many votes would be too many.
Since lots of people seem confused let me give you an example of the game works (remember, just an example, the game hasnt started yet):
Enviroment: A cold arid wasteland with patches of dry grass and a few hard leaves. The summer is usually around 32F and very stormy with lots of snow. The WInter is close to -40F but with more clear skies. The winter is too cold for snow, but chunks of ice are formed. Water is scarce and in the frigid winter the only food and water supply is the snow and ice or the flesh and blood of other animals.
The primary other animals here are tiny furry mammals need impics and a large bird named the tetrydoris.
The Enviroment is very important for making decisions. The creature that we design must be well suited for it's habitat. Because this game spans billions of years the enviroment might change once or twice, probably drastically. When the players vote to end the game the animal will be evaluated based on many factors including it's ability to survive in the enviroment.
Round 1: What should the name be?
1. pillyditor
2.cranzizer
3.xbill
4.civfanatasourus
Not very important but we will stick with one name.
Round 2: What should the creature's size be?
1. 15 inches long
2. 4 feet long
3. 6.5 feet long
4. 10 feet long
Size will increase through each generation or decrease.
We will continue like this and after 10 turns we might choose to end the game. ALong the way the creature might turn into a ferocious beast, that has no brain. It might become an energetic being that has no mind or defenses. It might turn out to be a sloth-like creature that sits in a hole in the snow but with minimal (or none) survival skills, but thinks great inventions.
RoboPig Mar 20, 2006, 07:28 PM I changed the rules so that you can join mid-game
Bluemofia Mar 21, 2006, 05:36 PM Can I join now?

Souron Mar 24, 2006, 09:46 PM in.
Can it evolve into two divergent species?
Can it evolve a symbiosis with another species?
RoboPig Mar 25, 2006, 07:31 AM Cody is in!
Souron is in and no to the first question, what does the second question mean?
OK, lets start!
Enviroment: We have been given a great habitat. Lush jungle trees roll down the low hills. A river cuts throught the center of the area giving us many fish to hunt. There is a semi-extinct volcano to the north and what seems to be an ocean a little bit west of that. Fruit and vegetables are abundant, however there will be heavy competition for them. Many creatures, some great, some small survive among us. In the summer heavy monsoons moisten and clean the ground, but in the winter the plants here shrivel up, but do not die, which can put creatures in rough spots during the winter.
Decision: What should we name this thing?
1. Our Beast
2. Civfanatasorus IIII
3. Tirindrydon
4. Fifth Horseman of the apocalypse
we are also not PMing the votes, just post them here instead
puglover Mar 25, 2006, 11:58 AM I'll join! I'll join!
Let's name our savage beast: Civfanatasorus!
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 25, 2006, 12:06 PM I suppose it would be blasphemy if I didn't vote Civfanatasorus :p
The 777 Hoax Mar 25, 2006, 03:01 PM I vote for #2 as well.
Aramazd Mar 25, 2006, 03:16 PM Could I still join, or is it too late?
RoboPig Mar 25, 2006, 04:14 PM ofcourse abgar, now vote! it is your destiny!
Aramazd Mar 25, 2006, 04:47 PM I'll go with "Fifth Horseman of the apocalypse"
puglover Mar 25, 2006, 05:08 PM I suppose it would be blasphemy if I didn't vote Civfanatasorus :p
Of course! Sauruses are always cool.
Yuri2356 Mar 25, 2006, 05:40 PM Civfanatasorus.
Kan' Sharuminar Mar 25, 2006, 06:01 PM Of course! Sauruses are always cool.
Speaking of which, should it be Civfanaticosaurus?
Bluemofia Mar 25, 2006, 06:57 PM Cody is in!

Numero Zwei! (2)
azzaman333 Mar 25, 2006, 07:10 PM Fifth Horseman of the apocalypse, no doubt about it!
Swiss Bezerker Mar 25, 2006, 07:33 PM fifth horseman of the apocalipse :)
Souron Mar 25, 2006, 11:04 PM I'm going to go with option 3.
Perfection Mar 26, 2006, 11:40 PM Why not Sally?
Judge_Deadd Mar 27, 2006, 01:50 AM II: Civfanatosaurus!
RoboPig Mar 28, 2006, 06:32 PM The Civfanatasorus roams the land!
DECIDE: how long should this creature be?
1: 3 inches
2: 2 feet
3: 6 feet
4: 9 feet
if somebody wants to convert to metric, fine by me.
oh, i will also not be updating the player list, we dont need it for a anytime sign up game
MjM Mar 28, 2006, 06:41 PM 2 feet. Then me and this lizard will have something in common. :groucho:
Swiss Bezerker Mar 28, 2006, 06:41 PM 1 of course
2 feet. Then me and this lizard will have something in common.
are you making a small penis joke ?

3 inches. That way we can do with less food.
MjM Mar 28, 2006, 06:47 PM But, are we a carnivore? If we are, bigger means we can eat others, such as the 3 inchers. So, im sticking with 2 feet.
are you making a small penis joke ?
Argh, some people dont get it. :shake:
Bluemofia Mar 28, 2006, 06:57 PM But, are we a carnivore? If we are, bigger means we can eat others, such as the 3 inchers. So, im sticking with 2 feet.
If we are a carnivore that's even worse.
A herbivore requires only let's say 1 acre of land to feed itself. Then for the carnivore, for every herbivore it eats, it requires 1 acre of land. Obviously, it can't live on just 1 herbivore a year, so a decent amount of herbivores required to support the carnivore would let's say, 10.
So, to support itself, the carnivore needs to have 10 acres of land to support itself.
Thus, being a herbivore would be more efficient. (10% rule of biology)
azzaman333 Mar 28, 2006, 11:50 PM 9 feet, since bigger is always better.
Judge_Deadd Mar 29, 2006, 01:48 AM 6 feet. (2 metres)
Perfection Mar 29, 2006, 07:56 AM 3 inches long, 9 feet wide
puglover Mar 29, 2006, 10:01 AM 2 feet. I want to build burrows like a rodent.
Yuri2356 Mar 29, 2006, 10:16 AM I'll throw in the vote for 2ft as well.
The 777 Hoax Mar 29, 2006, 04:50 PM 2 feeeeeet
Babbler Mar 31, 2006, 03:14 PM What the hell, I'll bite.
Aramazd Mar 31, 2006, 09:35 PM I'll say 2ft feet.
RoboPig Apr 01, 2006, 09:07 AM THE CIVFANATOSORUS ROAMS THE LAND. IT IS ONLY 2 FEET LONG.
DECIDE: What kind of ivore are we?
1. Carnivore, highly adapted to catching animals and meat, unable to digest most plant life
2. Herbivore, highly adapted to eating plants, even many poisounous ones, cannot catch meat
3. Omnivore, fairly good at catching animals and digesting most plant types, but not specialized in either field
i vote omnivore. if we vote carnivore, our size limits us to eating bugs and not growing very intelligent, if we vote herbivore our size, once again limits us to eating plants, fruit and flowers at the bottom, leading to food shortages. as omnivores we can eat those bottom flowers when we need to and eat meat when we need to. ofcourse later om we might develop into pack hunters allowing a wider meat selection, which also means that we could be carnivores. however i personally feel being a herbivore is the worst choice.
a space oddity Apr 01, 2006, 09:13 AM Omnivore, adaptability rulez!
Kan' Sharuminar Apr 01, 2006, 09:14 AM Carnivore sounds the coolest, but I suppose I'll vote omnivore purely for the bonus to adaptability it'll give
Bluemofia Apr 01, 2006, 10:36 AM Omnivore.
Only way to make up the shortcomming of 2 feet long.
The 777 Hoax Apr 01, 2006, 11:16 AM Omnivooooore
Aramazd Apr 01, 2006, 01:05 PM I say omnivore.
MjM Apr 01, 2006, 02:01 PM Carnivore, our size lets us eat animals.
Swiss Bezerker Apr 01, 2006, 03:26 PM herbavore xcl
Yuri2356 Apr 01, 2006, 04:47 PM The new, Omni-vore. Availible now for just four easy payments of $29.99!
azzaman333 Apr 01, 2006, 05:32 PM Herbivore.
puglover Apr 01, 2006, 05:38 PM I'll vote omnivore. Humans are omnivores, and I want this animal to eventually become like a hyper-intelligent humanoid rodent.
Perfection Apr 02, 2006, 02:38 PM Make it photosynthetic
puglover Apr 02, 2006, 10:00 PM Make it photosynthetic
Photosynthetic rodents. Hmm. Tunnels would not be an option.
Perfection Apr 02, 2006, 10:56 PM Photosynthetic rodents. Hmm. Tunnels would not be an option.
Not if the soil is translucent!
Judge_Deadd Apr 03, 2006, 02:22 AM Omni-vore.
...Don't you mention "vore" next to me.
RoboPig Apr 04, 2006, 02:33 PM The Civfanatosuorus roams the land. It is only 2 feet long. As an omnivore it has a wide selection of food, which allows it to eat vegetables during the summer months and smaller rodents and smaller plants and flowers during the winter.
DECIDE: what is our shelter?
1. A tunnel
2. A small pit
3. shade of a tree, or bush
4. a cave or den
Bluemofia Apr 04, 2006, 02:54 PM Shatde of tree or bush.
My reasoning is that it can then have a greater variety of places to hide, anywhere that has shade. And then it can have easy access to food.
The 777 Hoax Apr 04, 2006, 06:01 PM Tunnels! That would be cool.
Perfection Apr 04, 2006, 06:25 PM small BBQ pit!
RoboPig Apr 04, 2006, 07:44 PM i say tunnel, if we have a high energy level then we can escape quickly by building a tunnel. plus, mmore safety at night.
MjM Apr 04, 2006, 07:45 PM small BBQ Pit
Kan' Sharuminar Apr 04, 2006, 08:09 PM Tunnels! Our creature could build a labryinth of them, and could travel and retreat to wherever it wants. MUHAHAHAAA!
Souron Apr 04, 2006, 08:53 PM A tunnel.
puglover Apr 04, 2006, 10:26 PM Tunnel! W00t! Prairie dogs from hell!
azzaman333 Apr 04, 2006, 11:00 PM small pit .
Judge_Deadd Apr 05, 2006, 03:43 AM A tunnel...
Souron Apr 05, 2006, 03:09 PM Actually trees, as in in the branches, could be a great shelter enviroment.
Particularly becouse monkies lived in trees, and they evolved into inteligent humans.
a space oddity Apr 05, 2006, 03:14 PM My vote goes to....
tunnels! I have a feeling our little omnivore eats worms and ground insects too.
Aramazd Apr 05, 2006, 03:42 PM A tunnel!!!
Gorank Jun 07, 2006, 04:31 PM Tunnels sound good, since a 2-foot-long animal doesn't want bigger creatures in its home!
azzaman333 Jun 07, 2006, 10:47 PM Nice, a 2 month bump. :D
Gorank Jun 08, 2006, 06:01 PM Sorry, this is just so interesting!
Abaddon Aug 17, 2008, 12:14 PM Bump!
live!
Perfection Aug 17, 2008, 11:23 PM No BBQ pit means it's not worth it.
Globex Aug 18, 2008, 02:27 AM Can I join this game? If so, then I vote for tunnel.
Terrance888 Aug 18, 2008, 07:37 AM A tunnel under a tree's Roots.
This is just like NESLife except all play one creature!
Perfection Aug 18, 2008, 07:42 PM tunnels are lame. BBQ foreva
squid1111 Aug 20, 2008, 10:21 AM joINing...
Tunnel will win, but I vote pit. Because pits are nice places.
kenken244 Aug 20, 2008, 04:35 PM I'll join! i vote all 4 depending on the creatures mood.
Ninja Dude Aug 20, 2008, 08:54 PM You guys do realise that this will most likely never actually continue unless someone else decides to run this.
Perfection Aug 21, 2008, 09:31 PM I'll run it if everyone votes for pit.
kill fire Aug 22, 2008, 12:19 AM in if its not too late.
