Sleeping_Dragon Mar 22, 2006, 07:22 PM That's right! After playing the one for Civ3, I wanted to make my own. This will feature a few Scenarios when the final version is done.

In the year 180 AD, the Han Dynasty of China was crumpling. A rebellion known as the Yellow Turbans rose and ravaged the land. Then a evil tyrant, Dong Zhuo, took control of the central government and bullied the young Emperor. Then a colalition rose and he was soon displaced. Fighting continued until the Han throne was usurped by Cao Pi, who created Wei. Then Liu Bei established the Shu-Han Dynasty, and Sun Quan established the Wu Dynasty. Wei was turned into Jin after the defeat of Shu by the Sima Family. Jin finnaly united the land after years of fightng.

dc82 Mar 23, 2006, 12:22 AM Sounds like a great idea - Def. a great thing to make scenarios from.
Sleeping_Dragon Mar 23, 2006, 05:28 AM If I can get some help in my thread then things will ZOOM forward. Can you test the beta and tell me what you think?
Genghis_Kai Mar 24, 2006, 03:35 AM Hi, you beat to it. I was going to build Sango as a scenario too. But, I don't mind if I could contribute what I have to help you building this scenario :)
I have a raw map that I built already without any resources yet. I believe the landscape of the map is very accurate. The landscape is as of 195AD in china. For example, you can see Yellow river is flowing in a different path than today, Yangtze river's delta is shaped differently.
You might want to use it for your scenario. Let me know if you do. Attached is the map viewing from Civ4Editor.
Sleeping_Dragon Mar 24, 2006, 02:46 PM Thanks alot. The map I had was more like modern day china, extending far west. If you can send me the map to rot3k10@yahoo.com, I'll take a look and tell ya what I think. The pic looks good though. I was having a frustrating naming the right citys what. Oh, how big is your map? And, do you do python?
WiegrafFolles Mar 24, 2006, 07:42 PM Hell yeah! I can't wait to play this scenario!
EDIT:
Should I test this scenario or wait for the new map?

These maps are good, especially that second one. I am looking forward to a good RTK scenario

Hi, I've just posted the map. The link is:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=164507
The map is 100x100.
I had a look at your base map. It is good, got all the english city names. I was frastrated in translating all the city names, which was why I did not continue building the scenario.
I am not very keen in modding in python. I am more interested in map building and historical research. However, I was thinking to make the units moving faster such that it won't take 1000 years for a unit to move from 1 side of china to another :) I did some calculation and I think a ground unit should move at least 5 blocks per turn, provided that the turn is measured in weeks.
HourlyDaily Mar 24, 2006, 08:39 PM Wonderful - keep up the good work.
darkedone02 Mar 24, 2006, 08:39 PM keep up the good work, i be looking forward on this if it's more interesting. I perfer a mod to be made with this.

Ehh, I guess you didn't see these. The second one has more than enough towns translated (not in pinyin)

Hi Damon. when I read your post, I thought it was posted by Dragon and so I thought it is the base map, but obviously it isn't.
Dragon, it might be a good idea to use my map and use Damon's base map for city placement in your scenario. But of course, you might have better source already.
Really looking forward for to play RTK scenario!
Sleeping_Dragon Mar 26, 2006, 08:23 PM The map i use is from kongming.net. I'll check out your map and tell ya how it is. Python is a thing we need. Mods are also needed but just mixmatching unit pats may work. I should have a update by the middle of the week. Thanks for your support. We'd like any help possible in mods and python.
Thehistoryman Mar 27, 2006, 12:20 PM I belive "truban" in The Yellow Turban Rebellion is the old translation. The better translation is Yellow Scarf. Just throwing that out there.
I CANNOT wait for this scenario to be done I am a huge fan of the period and think Chinese history is much overlooked in civ.

Yeah, certainly agree python is an important part of building a good mod. I was just expressing where I am interested to contribute.
Thanks for considering using my map. One thing i should mention about my map is that I've delibrately making only the larger rivers flowing continuously (e.g yellow river and yangtze river). For the minor rivers, i have reserved space for placing cities to actually 'connect' those rivers, making these cities being more stretegically important. These cities include for example "Chen Liu", "Xia Pi" and "Xiang Yang".
seZereth Mar 29, 2006, 01:25 PM hi there, wanted to say that i did some melee chinese units based on the chokuno model. u can find them in the unit graphics thread
Justinian519 Apr 14, 2006, 07:44 AM So Sleeping Dragon,
how are the scenario's going. They sound so interesting and I can't wait for a finished version to come out.
Sleeping_Dragon Apr 14, 2006, 06:01 PM I had a problem with my desktop so I'm holding production for a week or so. If anybody else would like to help for the next week or so, It wou;d be greatly appreciated.
Supreme Shogun Apr 17, 2006, 03:38 AM Can't wait to test it.
seZereth Apr 21, 2006, 05:45 AM Hi there its me again, wanted to tell you that i did some better versions of the chinese units ;) you can find them here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=166925)
imagine83 Apr 24, 2006, 08:42 PM why is it called 'ROMANCE'? i dont see any particular except Lu Bu's...
Bosh Apr 26, 2006, 05:43 AM Hi there, how is the scenario proceeding?
Bytheway does anyone no if there is a scenario of Genghis Khan or Kublai Khan of Mongolia around 1200 ad. I think itīs strange nobody has made a scenario of that intresting period. Kublai Khan was the ruler of Asia during 1200 ad something and he qonquered China too, he was the person who made Peking a great city, he opened it for trade and other things, even Marco Polo visited Peking during that period. All I am saying could someone do a great scenario of that period because I canīt.:D
Justinian519 Apr 26, 2006, 08:33 PM Bosh, I was thinking of making a scenario of this time period. I don't have time right now, though. I also don't have the right map to use. I hear there is a scenario like this coming with the Civ4 expansion, Warlords.
Genghis_Kai Apr 26, 2006, 10:47 PM Bosh, I was thinking of making a scenario of this time period. I don't have time right now, though. I also don't have the right map to use. I hear there is a scenario like this coming with the Civ4 expansion, Warlords.
I think the Civ4 expansion is coming with a scenario of Warring Kingdoms. It is most likely be within the period of 403BC - 220BC. Romance of 3 kingdoms is in a completely different period, about 190AD - 280AD.
You could consider using my China195AD map for your scenario?
Bosh Apr 27, 2006, 12:05 AM Bosh, I was thinking of making a scenario of this time period. I don't have time right now, though. I also don't have the right map to use. I hear there is a scenario like this coming with the Civ4 expansion, Warlords.
Glad to hear someone is intrested of such a scenario, I would be very thankful indeed if you would make a scenario like that and when I mean a scenario of that period I don´t want to see civilizations driving around with destroyers and infantrymen after a couple of turns :)
Is there coming such a scenario in the Civ4 expansion, well I´m going to get it thats for sure.
Farae May 13, 2006, 10:47 AM RoTK...I am humbled by the arrival of a TK mod...
Rhymes May 20, 2006, 07:49 PM So whats new with this scenario how is it coming along.
I'm a huge ancient china fanatic and I have a fair knowledge of the three kingdom era, if i can help in anyway let me know,.
Hadean May 22, 2006, 07:56 AM This scenario sounds hot. Will you be including any type of unique units? For generals? Or have I played too much Dynasty Warriors and this will remain as a Vanilla Civ 4 Scenario only?
akinkhoo Jun 03, 2006, 11:27 AM why is it called 'ROMANCE'? i dont see any particular except Lu Bu's...
because it is based on the "three kingdom the spiced up drama edition" (<-- what i call the book :mischief: ) and not "three kingdom the recorded history"... it is made "romantic" not only by the love affairs, but also modification to the loyalty, trechery, wisdom, capabilities and even stupidity of all the characters.
egs.
liubei, zhangfei and guanyu are not recorded historically as oath brothers.
zhangfei made into the foolish of the 3, that he beat up the official after the yellow rebellion when it was historically liubei who did that, the story was changed to made liubei look more noble... :king:
guan yu once demand a girl as spoil of war from cao cao, and cao cao kept the girl for himself... (this created yet another myth that the girl was diaochan, but then diaochan was a frictional character that was inserted into real event in the 1st place... :crazyeye: ) so cao cao, didn't actually do EVERYTHING to keep guan yu by his side...
zhuge liang did not call in "the wind", historically Wu navies knew it via local fisherman about the "unusually weather patterns". zhuge liang was NOT the chief advisor of liubei at the time of red cliff. :p
if zhuge liang isn't the chief advisor by then then he couldn't had planned the defense of xinye and retreat earlier! in history, liubei came up with all the amazing ideas himeself! so he is actually a very good strategist in reallife! :king:
and the list goes on... OMG, i could talk all day about this alternate history!
mainly designed to revise the story into something more noble and dramatic...
so the "romance" here refers to the dramatic (and untrue) changes, not just your basic love life... hope this answer the question... ;)
OMG i am crazy about ROTK... :p
This scenario sounds hot. Will you be including any type of unique units? For generals? Or have I played too much Dynasty Warriors and this will remain as a Vanilla Civ 4 Scenario only?
i would hope so...
maybe some hero units... a lubu here.... a zhuge liang there :mischief:...
of course, special side unit like zhuge liang's repeated crossbow that can load10 arrows for rapid firing... the fire attack ship the rattan armored unit
but i think we will need alot of people to help made the units... it ain't easy...
Sliver Jul 19, 2006, 08:23 AM in that age there is some technologies that later implented by western , such as astronomy...
Zhugeliang wrote some book *wisdom* , which is still exist today in the china's national library (kind that)
I think
"zhuge liang did not call in "the wind", historically Wu navies knew it via local fisherman about the "unusually weather patterns". zhuge liang was NOT the chief advisor of liubei at the time of red cliff" -akinkhoo
he is great at Astronomy ... before he fooled the enemies , He learnt first
anyway... how the Time work? (per month or Season? or...)
i ccant wait any longer!
darkonion Jul 23, 2006, 06:40 PM im working on a RTK mod... well... teh xml side atleast... if u want... i would like to hear ur suggestions in the RTK mod forum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=168198)
CaTigeReptile Jul 28, 2006, 02:27 PM Yess! A 3k Civ4 mod! I got Civ4 yesterday and I'm already looking for one - because for me, no game like Civ is complete without the Three Kingdoms war! I, too, am more interested in the history of the era as opposed to the novel and its lore, but since it's Civ 4, even with a RoTK scenario we have control over our actions. I know nothing about how to mod this game, and if you asked me about details of the Three Kingdoms I'd probably trick you and give you information from the historical sources, so though I offer my assistance I don't know how helpful I'd be!
Sleeping_Dragon Aug 01, 2006, 03:29 PM AMJOR UPDATE!!!!!! I Will be using the current Chinese Unification as a base for my scenario. The map its self will be used. I will change the flags, maybe add Specific Heros, and a few more things. I expect to have a screen or two by Friday to prove this isn't dead yet!!! I'm also gonna check out what darkonion is doing with his mod. Look for a ton of new updates over the next few weeks. All my other mods for different games have been put on hold while i make leaps and bounds in this. Thanks for your continued support, even in my absence.
HourlyDaily Aug 04, 2006, 11:57 PM Good to hear Sleeping_Dragon
akinkhoo Aug 06, 2006, 08:01 AM i think if heros unit is added, they should have a 95% withdraw chances or they might all end up dead too early or their stat will be too powerful that normal unit would appear too weak before them...
dreamkin Aug 09, 2006, 04:59 AM I belive "truban" in The Yellow Turban Rebellion is the old translation. The better translation is Yellow Scarf. Just throwing that out there.
I CANNOT wait for this scenario to be done I am a huge fan of the period and think Chinese history is much overlooked in civ.
Indeed Turban is not only an old translation but is also inaccurate. Turban itself is a middle eastern thing and what westerners call Turban is actually called Sarik. Turban is something else entirely, although I should admit that the real Turban resembles a scarf more than a Sarik.
People usually use Yellow Turban Rebellion probably because that rebellion is called that way in all the computer games related to the novel. (Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Dynasty Warriors, Dynasty Tactics series and Kessen I and II)
Good luck with the three kingdoms mod btw. And don't miss the movie. That's right, John Woo is shooting a movie of the Battle of Red Cliffs (Chi Bi). :)
quizibuk Aug 12, 2006, 04:14 PM Really?? A movie on Chi Bi, sweet. Have any of you watched the chinese TV series? I love it.
akinkhoo Jan 07, 2007, 10:17 AM he is great at Astronomy ... i just have to ask, you mean he is great at Astronomy (the study of stars) or Astrology (the prediction of things via stars), cause being good at Astronomy won't help you predict wind. and Astrology is kinda made up fairy tale that doesn't work either.
:crazyeye:
Noret Aug 03, 2007, 12:37 AM I'm already looking forward to it. I have a few questions though. For Warlords or Vanilla? How close to being finished? Lots of new units?
Rhymes Aug 03, 2007, 09:34 PM I'm already looking forward to it. I have a few questions though. For Warlords or Vanilla? How close to being finished? Lots of new units?
