The problem lies with the palette file. If you load the .PAL file created by flicster into PaintShopPro, you will notice that there is a whole bunch of red towards the end of the palette. In order to keep red as your shadow color, just keep the last 8 before the final pink as different shades of red. Change the balance of the red color in the palette into some color not used in the palette (say bright green, or something). Just resave your animation using the new .PAL file and your shadow will no longer be red in Alpha Blending mode. :cooool:

hey hope this isnt intruding on your creativity, but i made a sample animation for a good running flc. here it is

Old run animation destroyed, here is the new one. :D Much better!

Progress so far:
Default: complete
Run: complete
Fortify: complete
Attack: complete
Fidget: 1 direction so far (R2 spins his head)
Death: Haven't started
Victory: Will most likely be the same as the fidget animation

As for the worker abilities, I'm not sure if I will do them or not, I probably will though, they shouldn't be that hard because they are only in one direction.

Its up to you which one you want to use, you have full control over the creation of this unit. Whichever one you prefer, use, because they both look good to me. If you have more frames of yours done, it might be easier to do that one. I think your right about that third leg thing, i wonder if there is a way to pause before it moves....?

I had a different idea:

I was thinking of having its head spin really fast with sparks flying from it and then the head flying off with an explosion.

Also, i was wondering if you wanted to make this into a worker-type unit? I know its alot to ask, but youve done a great job so far and i figured that you may want to do that.

cool, i oringinally thought of a tool coming out of the front like a beam drill, but that could be confusing, the pick axe seems to be the better idea.

Ohh yeah, for captured animation, it could be a restraining bolt being attached. ;)

What do you mean by "restraining bolt being attached". Oh yeah, is there like gonna be 2 R2 units? One that is a basic worker and another that is a worker with attacking/ defensive abilities? That would be awsome.

I was thinking of having the r2 unit have a defense of 1....so i guess it doesnt need a captured animation....

Well, I'm just about done with this R2 droid, all that I need to do is make some worker animations. It seems like this will end up similar to the engineer with attacking abilities.

Here is my progress:
Done:
Sound effects (most of them I downloaded from the internet and reformated to make them work for civ3)
Default flc
Run flc
Fidget\Victory flc
Death flc
Fortify flc
Attack flc

Still to make:
Irrigation flc (will probably R2 dragging a plow back and forth)
Mining flc (a lazer)
Jungle/Forest clear flc (a small saw)
Plant forest flc (R2 going back and forth dropping seeds)
Road flc (not sure yet)
Fort flc (not sure yet)
Civilopedia pictures
Units_32 entry

The build road could be r2 with a concrete mixer pouring out of his back onto the ground, and the build fort could be him welding metal together or something along those lines. Thanks again for the help :goodjob:

Many thanks to tpasmall for giving me the idea to make this unit and giving me a lot of great ideas on developing it.:goodjob:

I hope that you guys like it because I spent a lot of time on it. Feedback would be appreciated and if anybody who notices a problem in animation, sound, or if something doesn't work, notify me right away.

By the way, this is my first completed unit ever.:D

everyone interested in a starwars mod and starwars units needs check out this thread started by scipio africanus. it is a bunch of starwars unit gifs. Some just need to be converted into civ3 flics others need a lot of additional work, all are helpful.

I already found that post with all the animations, I already started the Y Wing. About the AT-ST, that will be started when I'm done with the Y Wing. Progress is coming along pretty slow right now because of school. I'll get most of it done on the weekends.

Hey, I started to use start wars units, but when i used CIV3 Copy Tool to copy like a marine and changed the icon and actions to exactly worker, CIV III crashed on me the second when R2 was created...other units like MSE-6, A-Wing, and TIE Interceptor work fine.....help plz? can you tell me what you had your civ III mod file set up for R2 to function (i.e. which actions did u give R2...irrigate, build a mine and such)..........oh plz.........

Oh..., hmm this is quite odd. I'll try to make a civmod file for you and you can copy the stats for it... It works for me!

Hey thx....I don't know why this would happen....1.16 version seems more stable than 1.17...I think another unit from another mod pack doesn't work any more after I installed it....:cry:

a little error in the animation plastic bag....i noticed that whenever R2 is attacking or defending, R2 ducks lower than than the starting position, then the attack/defend animation kicks in, then R2 bumps up back to original height. Another thing is its irrigation is slightly off the center. You'll see what I mean if you turn the team color on.

Otherwise, it's kewl :king:

Here are some added and edited sounds for "R2 D2". New Sounds: Run, Fortify, Cut, Construction, Irrigate and Victory. Former Victory sound was used for Fidget and the Attack and Death sounds are the Same. Plastic Bag, Nice Work on the R2 Droid. Fun Unit!
