went through the HoF and saw under deity entries, the current highscore for standard map.
I wanted to open the save file but I get that annoying 'game protected' bla bla. Anyway, how would it be possible to beat 4 deity opponents by 3650BC in deity? This is only possible with very close starting positions and maybe other tweaks. I am surprised that this is not considered an exploit.
Maybe someone can enlighten me about that particular game since I can't open the save.

Have you changed something in your install folders? Or are you running a mod? You should be able to open it. Unless you know you have different CRCs due to the sort order bug, you might want to run AssetChecker (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mods/Civ4AssetChecker1.1.zip) to see what's going on.
Extract it from the zip file and run it. Click on "Check". When that completes click on "Save Results" and save the .csv file somewhere.

Actually Denniz I think ThERat is referring to Vokial's 3560BC Standard Deity Conquest.
Here's a quote from some clever (though not very modest ;)) chap from this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=3663680&postcount=37) :
That game was played without the HOF mod. It should load OK on a standard Civ installation, unless maybe you've got Civ installed on a FAT/FAT32 partition? I could make an unprotected version of the 4000BC save available if that would help.
In short though, the game was won via a combination of 2 features/bugs. First was that he ended up on tiny 8 tile island with all 4 opponents. Second was that he settled and immediately declared war, and for some reason the AIs decided it wasn't safe to settle so close to him and just stood there waiting for 10 turns rather than attacking. After that 10 turns they didn't have a city so were eliminated and Vokial won via Conquest.

thanks for the explanation, now it is clear for me how this could be won so early. Guess you are not letting this entry stand since it would forever be unbeatable. It's just a bug not a win :crazyeye:

Currently the HOF is a beta HOF. When we're happy that the patching process for Civ is stable and we've decided on a final set of rules (which may include disallowing certain exploits if they're not fixed in patches) we will end the beta period and the tables will start from scratch.

I fail to see how you could consider that an excellent game. It wasn't even a game!

I consider any game using an unique strategy well played. May be Vokial regenerated hours to achieve that start? ;)
