View Full Version : Permanent HOF Rules Changes

As badly as I'd love to give all of you a timetable for the permanent Hall of Fame opening, I simply can't. Like the rest of the Civ universe, we're waiting on the next patch. I can tell you however that several rules changes have been decided on and will go into effect at that time:

Decided Will Change:

All games from 1.52 and before will be purged from the tables.
The HOF mod will be required for all HOF play and submissions.
Games played with sessions less than an hour will risk declination.
Games played with sessions less than a half an hour will be declined.
Map types will be restricted, likely to the options on the Play Now screen.

Decided Will Not Change:

Barbarians will be at player's discretion for general HOF play. However, there may be occasional Gauntlets requiring them, and perhaps even bonuses in the Quatromaster's Challenge for playing with them.
We're not going to mod the Firaxis scoring system.

Under Debate But Undecided:

Always War/Always Peace
Minimum number of AI per mapsize
Maximum number of AI per mapsize
Permanent Alliances

Hello

Do you know when can we expect the next patch?

Untill the next patcch it doesn't make too muchh sense to play as all the HOF scores will be purged.

I *think* I read a Firaxis post in the tech support forum that the patch had been finalized and was going through TakeTwo's QA department, but I'm not sure...

I understand.

I should elaborate further than what I posted earlier.

Simply calling the switch to the permanent Hall of Fame a purge of the tables isn't entirely accurate. While we haven't figured out the exact details just yet, we are simply not going to throw away all the games submitted thus far. It would be unthinkable to just act like all these great Gauntlets and achievments didn't happen. There will be an archive of some sort.

One strong possibility is switching the Beta HOF to a different directory and closing it for submissions, reopening it at intervals for XP's and future patches before legalizing them for the permanent Hall of Fame.:)

Submission rate is decreasing. No one wants to submit anymore because tables are going to be purged? :(

Maybe. Could also be nicer weather (spring), vacations, patch frustration, etc, etc. I honestly don't know...

If it is the beta versus permanent issue, then I do understand. I always hate to see submissions dropped, but the HOF mod of future patches will offer unprecedented security for the tables, so I think this the wisest decision in the long run.

I'll also say that even if we don't open the permanent HOF soon after the next patch, that HOF mod submissions under the next patch will be ported over to the permanent.

Do you know something about the next patch. (When?) I can hardly wait to play with CIV IV again and see myself in pernamaent HOF.

All I know is what little Firaxis has said here at CFC. :(

Do you mean I should have waited for the patch to come out and then announce we'd be wiping the tables? I think that would have been rude.

For some reasons, I have always known that these tables will be wiped out.;)

If the HOF mod will be required, any idea it will be ready to go with patch 1.61?

I hope you make up your mind on this soon. IMO, a minimum of 6 AIs has already been really tough on a deity huge map. If you make it any tougher, no one can win. Btw, since the early forests operation is pretty much going to hell with the new patch, it's much tougher even with 6 AIs now.

PS: Good news! The anarchy exploit has been fixed. I just tested that out last night.

We're working on it. Hopefully not too long...

Wimp! Maybe you could practice on some of the easier levels and work your way up. (I never thought the day would dawn when I'd be able to say that to YOU! ;)).

I think the religious fanatic suicide patch is harder to pull off too now (loaded your save and AI dont seem to react same way)

Like I have said it before, whatever you guys decided is fine with me. Sure, even with the maximum number of civs on a deity huge map, it's possible to win using Permanent Alliances numble jumble. At the moment, I'm really just waiting for you guys to make up your minds.

Told ya :p.
And I believed you.:)

I'm sure something new will come up. We just need to dig deeper.... At the moment, I'm still doing research on the "Permanent Alliances". I'm thinking of conquering at least 1/4 of the world with swords and the rest through Permanent Alliances. That's what I'm planning for a deity huge map. I know it's not easy, but it's possible.

Actually, there are a lot of things that are impossible! For example, I wish to visit other the stars in the galaxy, but I know it's impossible, at least in my lifetime. Howerver, there is always hope...may be Oma Desala will help me to ascend some day.

Que sara sara...whatever float your boat will float mine. I really don't care either ways...let it be the player's choice.

I hope you like my new song.:) May be you should consider allowing the official game version by Firaxis without any HOF mod. Why not make the HOF mod a player's choice? The reason I'm saying this...becuase we have been waiting forever for Firaxis to release the patch....now we have to wait another eternity for the mod too.;)

Once we're ready to go, players will have a choice between the two for the remainder of the Beta. For the permanent HOF, the mod will be the only choice.

The reason I'm saying this...becuase we have been waiting forever for Firaxis to release the patch....now we have to wait another eternity for the mod too.;)
:( I'm very sorry you feel that way. I do think that you'll find eternity can be a very relative duration of time though. ;)
