Tired of green tanks roaming around in the desert? I sure was.
Here are some color conversions of older units. You can use them for Middle Eastern scenarios, epic games or whatever you want.

I'd like to thank the original creators!
Please keep in mind that those are only conversions, not entirely new units.

Please note that my non-desert color conversions can be found HERE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=165385).

Ares de Borg,

i love these color conversions. it's like a whole new unit if you ask me.

anyway, i know that a lot of modern type units that were available at the old cdg are no longer available for DL. however, note that they are still floating around if you ever need one that is no longer available for DL...

Now what the heck did we sell such an awesome piece of hardware like that to them for? Some times I have to wonder what the US Govt is Thinking...

Good to hear its on your list. They provided me some close air support during desert storm. They look very menacing circling around you at 50ft... some were desert colored some weren't. A lot of our gear was that way just didn't have enough time to repaint them all...

Do you load these back into Poser to re-color them?

Ares de Borg
Apr 09, 2006, 07:16 PM
Iranians are not Arabs, btw.

Desert camo on a helicopter is to hide them from enemy aircraft flying at a greater height. Since the US has full air superiority they can paint their choppers low-vis grey to make them harder to spot for ground troops.

can you redo the main turret attack animation? it is a chain gun, it needs more rapid fire, trust me, I was in a Bradley this morning..

The Bradley has a 25mm chain gun. the LVTP7's that I have been in Had either an M2 50cal. or a MK-19 automatic 40mm grenade launcher. The Bradley is more of a support weapon platform which transports only 7 soldiers while the LVTP7 is more of a landing craft designed to protect marines from small arms fire while transporting them(lvtp7 holds 25 marines) to the FEBA (forward edge of the battle area) for deployment.

giving the LVTP7 (amtrack) more fire power probably wouldn't be realistic IMO. ;)

Not yet. If you need a dark one, you could use my WAH-64 in the other color conversion thread. AFAIK Israel is the only country that uses the AH-64 in desert colors.

http://idfmodelling.free.fr/ref_air_pictures/apache/apache_08.jpg

Most of the IDF birds are dark, though.

I like the Egyptian variant painted in light grey, so I might do that one.

I've still a long list of units I want to do. :)

USA, Greece, Singapore, Japan, Egypt, Holland, UK, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Isreal, Jordon.

right now I'm watching a documentary about the 6-day war and I'm getting a real boner to do an Isreali Super-Sherman.

What hinders you? ;)

I just checked the paintings of the other ME countries' Apaches. Looks like they're all black (or at least most of them).

When I browsed for pictures I found one of the good old Comanche:

I know it wasn't put into service but who could make a better one for Civ than you, Wyrm? :)

trouble is.. finding time. I know I'm not releasing anything, but I'm still trying to find time to make stuff for... you guessed it... ww2.

http://idfmodelling.free.fr/ref_air_pictures/apache/apache_08.jpgThat's the one I was talking about! Also how about a A-10 War Hog?

Roman Legion
Apr 25, 2006, 05:03 PM
that's not the A-10, thats an Apache. but yeah, a new A-10 would be Great!!!!

Goldflash
Apr 27, 2006, 10:02 AM
Actually, William is right in this case. That would be an Apache in desert colors. That was what he was talking about. If you could read, Roman Legion, you would note that he said "ALSO" meaning "in Addition too". So therefore, he asked for an A-10 "in Addition too" the Desert Apache.

Hello Wyrmshadow

I’m just curious: the first heli in third row seems to be a Ka-25 Hormone, right ? Do you plan to release it in the future ?

An A-10? Well, I guess I could do a grey one.

The Amtrac Storm Grunt requested needs to be done first (it's about 40% complete). Sorry for the delay, everyone.

Ares, very nice & useful job !!
What about camo soldiers, to complete desert scenario/mods ?

I'm looking for help to continu a Mr.Black scenario : AIW = Arabe Israëli War, that scenario need specific units & maybe a more realistic middle-East terrain.
And other stuff ?
If you want to participate developing this scenario, the link is here :
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=80498

I suggested (sorry my english is not very...), that :
"What about a modern era of AIW ?
with Merkava Mk2 desert, bradley desert camo, hammer desert camo, F15, anti missiles "patriots", Nuclear missiles, etc versus / arabs armies T90-92, bmp 2, Mig etc.
Huge middle east map, radars & aerodroms usable.
Only one chief (regicide mod), more brown map textures.
I really enjoy your AIW scenario, thinx !!
Please continue to developpe your AIW (I said to Mr Black, ... but it wasn't no respons :(

If someone thinks that continuing this scenario is intersting please participate !!
Thanx.

There are some desert soldiers around somewhere. :)

At the moment, Stormie's Amtrac is driving me crazy. Sometimes, I hate pallettes. ;)

The T-55 is just what I - and I guess many others as well - need for the Cold War scenario.

Thank you.

I bet messing with pallettes can be very frustrating.

You have revised your units ? Yery good !:D
I`m permanently working on improving/debugging Scenarios like "The Middle East 2006" ; "Middle East Sim 1960-1990" ; "Arab-Israel War 1948" ; "Iran-Iraq War" ; "Saddam Hussein" ...
So you can easily imagine that your recolors has become important to me - even more than the original ones !:)
Thanks for your time spended making these !!!:goodjob:
