Which of the total war games do you own? I only have Rome :total war, but I plan on getting some other in the series.

EDIT:  I hit enter and the poll screwed up! just ignore it.

I have Rome: Total War. I was thinking about getting Barbarian Invasion, but I got Civ4 instead.

I have all of them except for Barbarian invasion. The mod packs tend not to add enough content and I didn't really enjoy RTW as much as I thought I would.

Thinking about it, I haven't really bothered with the Barbarian Invasion expansion either. Something just didn't seem quite right.

The three of them plus the three expansions.

None, but I already plan on getting Medieval Total War 2.

All three, Warlord Edition and Viking Invasion too, intending to get Medieval 2. Not intending to get Barbarian Invasion. Rome Total Realism modpack is enough for me. :)

How is the Viking expansion? I really want to get it for the Britain map, but would like to see some opinions first.

Its okay, I think the Vikings can be a little annoying from what I remember as they have much better troops.

Got them all. Except that Shogun add-on.

Shogun is still playable game, at least for me. I kinda wished they would have done Shogun II instead of coming Medieval II. But it's a win-win situation, I do love all them Total Wars and Medieval II looks good.

Barbarian Invasion is very good expansion, I think much better than VI was for Med.

BTW, good vote, lacks Shogun.

It adds a good bit. In addition to the viking campaign, it adds more units, buildings, and playable factions to the normal game (Hungary and Sicily become playable I think). Also--and this is probably the biggest improvement--there's a pre-battle screen that lets you save before battles and organize your reinforcements in any order you want them.

Interesting. I saw it and the original game bundled together in a £5 deal at Game. I already own (well, stolen from former flatmate) the original, but I may still check it out.

Thinking about it, I haven't really bothered with the Barbarian Invasion expansion either. Something just didn't seem quite right.

I found it that there were not enough territories, and that the setting was quite depressing. I've mainly played the original as it feels more epic (Establishing a great empire > destroying a corrupt one)

I agree. Plus the original has lots more 'civilized' factions

Though I keep thinking about civ every time i see the cities and territories...hmm..

Same here. The Barbarian Expansion is much harder and I recommend only to play it if you really are an expert and have beaten every aspect of Vanilla Rome.

My family has both Medieval Total War and Rome Total War. No expansion packs (if there are any...), nor Shogun.

I play neither.

A little harder, yes. Only for experts, no (IMHO, of course).

BI is not much fun, I can honestly say that.. the Romans are too big and the rest are...barbarians. Some barbs can't even build ports and ships

I own it so I know what I'm talking about when I say that it isn't that bad! Its a little less balanced than original Rome and I like Rome better but it's still pretty good.

I have it too diablodelmar.. and what I said in my previous post is from personal experience..

I guess some barb factions are not bad though, the challenge is there especially when you're going after the Romans right away.

I disagree about the prevailing opinion wrt Barbarian Invasion. I think it's a nice expansion pack. It brings in religion, the new troops are nice, the low province count and specialized victory conditions are superior, and the horde dynamic works well. I actually have more of a problem with regular Rome. To this date I haven't finished a vanilla RTW campaign. After a certain point it just becomes really boring. The farthest I've gotten is about 15 provinces; it took so long that I lost interest. I didn't really have that problem with MTW.

I have actually finished a short campaign. It was fine, though I missed out on the whole "civil war" deal.

You don't need the civil war thing to end a short campaign. Fulfill your objective, and you win :goodjob:
