Well, I've got the Modern era defensive unit for the FF mod done; the Sniper. Basically this lady is armed with a semi-auto sniper rifle, and she could possibly be used for a number of things (one that comes to mind is that sniper chick from Enemy at the Gate). Most of the animations were copied from the Ivalician mediator, but I altered the Attack A animation to represent a modern semi-auto rifle, and I made a completely new Attack B and Victory animations.....

UPDATE: I have re-done the civ color textures and almost all the animations as well as the civilopedia icons, and uploaded a completely new version HERE (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2762&act=down)

Hey wow, nice female partisan unit! (Reminds me a bit of a character from the movie "Force 10 from Navarone" or whatever it's called.) I especially like the semi-auto attack animation...

She doesn't need all that "armor" on. :D

Glad you guys like her.... I'm half tempted to enter her into the April Unit competition, but I'm going to wait and see what UtahJazz7 and/or Aaglo enter first......

Nice Unit Hikaro Takayama and as others have said, the casings add a nice touch:goodjob:
Just my opinion but one thing you might consider adjusting in the future...the weapon appears to be overly light weight by the way she so effortlessly slings it around with one arm and wrist action. IF she held it in the middle with one hand and ran with it to her side only, slightly swinging it or held it with both hands across her front, that would show more weight and look more natural.

Goldflash
Apr 03, 2006, 01:46 PM
Again, I'd rather see a run animation with the rifle shouldered, or atleast held in two hands. Other than that its real good. Attack Animation is great.

How about a female musketwoman with those 16th century muskets next? :mischief:

Yeah... That's a BIG problem with the Poser 5 walk designer.... I had the "swing arms" part of the run animation tweaks set to -200 (minimum), and what you see is what I got.... on a normal, unmodified run animation, she'd be shoving the barrel of the rifle up her nose. I wish I could find a solution for this, but I can't... I may just make future rifle-armed units have the rifle slung over their shoulder (like the Shinra SOLDIER's sword), and have them take it off their shoulder for the fortify animation..... But that's even more work for me.....

Yeah... That's a BIG problem with the Poser 5 walk designer.... Hikaro Takayama, I totally Understand and my "two cent" critique wasn't meant to criticize at all. Poser 5 does have some problems, Poser has changed hands a few times and each time, Poser has had changes. Poser 4 and 6 are better than Poser 5 for several reasons but again, this is yet another opinion  Probably the best way to prevent that poser situation if unable to correct it would be to have the unit Run holding the Rifle more stationary with Both Hands. Truth is most soldiers do Run holding a Rifle with both hands, ready to use it as needed and because they Guard their weapon with their lives. This would also prevent the need to animate a fortify flc where the rifle is taken off the shoulder.

Apr 04, 2006, 11:19 AM
Well, if it were possible to have the walk designer ONLY effect the lower body (Hip and legs) without moving the upper part, I would do just that, but the Walk designer moves the entire body, and trying to edit any upper body/arm movement out of every single freakin' frame is too much work for someone who has a full-time job and a busy family life and a mod that's almost 1 year overdue for release due to still needing a quite a few units (i.e. me).

Vuldacon
Apr 04, 2006, 02:43 PM
Hikaro Takayama...you probably already know this but we can also select (edit) Keyframes after first creating the Walk and make changes to the body parts we want altered. By adding as few new Keyframes as possible, Poser will fill in the rest so it doesn't have to be extremely time consumming for the "adjustments" but yes, it does take time none the less...all part of the Joys of animating

Yeah, now that you mention it, if I gave her a bamboo hat and made her hair black, she would look like that viet-cong sniper chick... I kind of based her design off that one Russian sniper chick from Enemey at the Gates, though....

"Force 10 from Navarone" and "The Guns of Navarone" are two different films. I've only seen the latter one, though.

ive never heard of 'Force 10 From Navaronne." I shall invertigate further at my local Blockbuster. I didnt realize Navaronne was such a popular island, for a tiny rock in the Aegean

Seriuosly? The Russians used Female Snipers in WWII? What did they do, throw them at the enemy? "Hey, Boris, I just sniped me one, I threw Svetlana from the roof on some germans!" Or were they normal snipers like everyone knows they were and its really unneccesary to say it twice, even more cos I think people talked about it on this very thread. I can`t belive my people fight alongside trolls...

May 01, 2006, 07:51 PM
Okay, I think it is well established that the Russians used female snipers in WW II, so STOP SPAMMING UP MY THREAD!!!!!!

Besides, who would want to use this crappy unit anyways? I don't even know why I bother making units sometimes... I'll never be as good as Aaglo, or Utahjazz7, so I might as well say F--- it, and do something I'm actually good at, like wiring stuff up or growing plants.....

I already got the Treads/lower "torso" (complete with two rows of spinning spikey blades) done, and am working on the "shoulders" and "arms" with plasma cannons like the Imperial Sky armor had (take a wild guess what the victory animation will be  )

Stormrage
May 01, 2006, 08:17 PM
The lower torso is from that tank of yours? I hope you left out the big cannon hanging between its treads like the one seen in the gargant pics ;)

Hikaro Takayama
May 01, 2006, 08:37 PM
Of COURSE I did, none of my units need a 'big shoota' down THERE!!! Basically, it will have MG in the "Chest" which will fire along with the electro-zappy/plasma gun arrms (taken directly from my Imperial Sky Armor Airship), a HUGE cannon of some kind (either that or a big flame cannon) in the mouth, and missiles that launch out of the nose....

and this is the first time any of my unit threads has gone beyond two pages....

So, did you know that the Soviets used . . .

. . . 3.5 power PU scopes on their sniper rifles? Seriously, a Mosin sniper with a small scope like that would be a sweet unit.
