Game Info/Introduction:

Settings:
Monarch
Large, 80% water, Continents
10 (?) Opponents, All Random
Conquest, Domination, Diplo wins enabled

Alterations:
Battleship is now 12/(14)/10/5 with a bombard range of 4 and blitz capability. It also costs 400 shields and requires aluminum and oil, so its capabilities definitely come with a price.
Grunt unit added. 12/8/1, available with Mass Production. Costs 100 shields. Basically a cheap, easily mass produced offensive unit for civs lacking in oil. Requires rubber.
Light Tank replaces Tank. Same stats, uses graphics from the WWII Conquests scenario, because I hate how the tanks looks normally.
New Government: Socialist Republic. Comes with Communism. Similar to Communism, but no MPs, no whipping (cash rush), unit support is 3 for town/city, 5 for metropolis.
Cruise Missiles cost more, but are guaranteed to kill any unit. They cost (I think) 200 shields. Makes them extremely useful for tactical destruction of targets.Game so far:

I played this out and was very, very weak, and decided to give up, but then I hit the Industrial Age and everything started going right. I started catching up in Science and even surpassing my foes, so I decided to play it out. I've wanted to make a story for almost a year but never bothered to do it, so I figured I might do it now.

In the early 700s, a long period of German weakness ended. The old Prime Minister, Bismark, was ousted by a young, strong politician by the name of Karthoffeln. Karthoffeln had been playing the puppetmaster for years, feeding Bismark with ideas and acting as the administration’s public face, so when Bismark was exiled the people made no qualms whatever about supporting Karthoffeln wholeheartedly. In fact, they greatly preferred his Socialist regime to Bismark’s false democratic Republic, where the people supposedly were equal to the government but had their rights repeatedly violated.

Karthoffeln led the German nation into the industrial era in a blaze of glory. Germany transformed from a weak, client nation, relying on the help of its powerful neighbor Persia for protection, to a strong, independent, rapidly industrializing nation in a short number of years. Soon, Germany was ranked among the most powerful nations in the world. With its industrial and economic might, Germany was a force to be reckoned with, even though it lacked a strong offensive military.

By 820 AD, Germany was unquestionably the most powerful nation on the face of the planet. While Germany had been growing more and more powerful, so had Japan; in fact, the two nations had become technological and economic rivals for some time, and Karthoffeln had worked hard trying to keep the peace between the two growing nations. The Japanese President grew more and more threatening and aggressive, culminating in an open threat to invade the tiny, defenseless nation of the Iroquois and seize its oil supply if Germany did not provide Japan with the precious resource. Karthoffeln refused, and the delicate balance that had held fast for year was suddenly shattered…

I'll do what I can, conquer_dude. Welcome to the story. :salute:

Right then. On to the story! Keep in mind I'm no storyteller, so anybody feel free to give me some pointers.

~ Chapter One: A World Out Of Balance ~

With Germany on the rise as a world power, there were now three powerhouse nations covering the northern hemisphere: Germany, Japan, and Persia. Needless to say, the balance of power was poised very uncertainly indeed on the verge of tilting wildly to one side. All it would take was one tiny nudge, one little misunderstanding or confrontation, to tip the balance wildly and change the face of the globe forever. In the year 820 AD, that tiny nudge happened in a big way.

With tension at a height not seen for hundreds of years, the Japanese made a fatal mistake: they demanded that Karthoffeln supply them with oil, a resource they lacked and which Germany had in quantity. Karthoffeln refused, and Japan raised their bluff; they threated to declare war on their smaller, weaker neighbor to the south, the Iriqouis, and seize the oil fields buried deep under the desert outside of Niagara Falls if Karthoffeln failed to capitulate to Japan's wishes. Karthoffeln remained adamant, confident that the Japanese were not desperate enough to declare war and risk causing international conflict, but within a month, the Japanese declared war on the Iriqouis nation.

The Iriqouis, unfortunately, were completely unable to stop the onslaught. While the other nations in the world had been advancing (aside from the Celtic peoples and the war-ravaged Americans and Indians,) the Iriqiouis had become more and more withdrawn from science, shunning technology and sticking to their old ways. The Iriqouis had failed to industrialize, and because of this they were still considered savages by the majority of world powers. During this time, however, the Iriqouis had forged a close bond with Germany, and had thus become a protectorate of that great nation. Although they could do nothing directly due to their lack of a proper army, the Germans government aided the Iriqouis in whatever ways they could, including supplying saltpeter and military leaders to help equip and train the Iriqouis' outdated arsenal.

Despite these efforts, the Japanese offensive succeeded, crushing the ill-equipped and unprepared Iriqouis army. In early winter of 820, the Japanese had managed to capture Niagara Falls, gaining control of the untapped oil fields in the desert. Iriqouis counterattacks failed miserably, and within a week of their initial attack Japan had captured their objective and completely annihilated the Iriqouis army.

Overnight, German interest was piqued. Karthoffeln could no longer sit on his hands and hope that the Japanese were bluffing; it was time to act. After quick and unanimous decision, it was ordered that all major production centers begin the manufacturing of thousands of rifles, and the Army called for 180,000 volunteers to be trained as infantrymen. Karthoffeln himself vowed that if the Japanese continued their aggression against the Iriqouis, Germany would have no choice but to conduct large-scale warfare against the Japanese homeland.

The following is an excerpt from the private diaries of Council Chairman Karthoffeln, recovered fifty years after his death and restored to original condition.

Well, things have definitely taken a turn for the worse...it seems that the Japanese were sincere in their declaration, for they invaded the Iriqouis nation and captured Niagara Falls sometime within the last forty-eight hours. Unfortunately, it is becoming clear to me that Germany cannot continue to remain nuetral in this conflict. We have to do something. It is our duty, with the Iriqouis nation as a German protectorate, to step in and help fight the Japanese. I am supremely confident that we will have no trouble fighting the Japs...the thing I am worried about is that we might be able to get a force together quickly enough intervene. Our agents in Kyoto sent reports some months ago that said the Japs have anywhere from twenty to thirty divisions of infantrymen in Kyoto alone. Lord knows what kind of force they've sent into Iriqouis lands.

Luckily, it seems that this whole mess has come at a perfect time to test a new weapon being developed by General Steinbeck's technicians. They call them Panzers, but I cannot help myself but think of them more as massive, armored bears. The monsters are mounted with a single cannon and machine-gun in a turret, and Steinbeck's men think they will be invaluable on the battlefield due to their speed and heavy armor. I've seen one of the beasts myself, and I have no reason to doubt the General's confidence in this matter...I should think a single one of them would easily take on the entire Jap army and win easily. Apparently it will be about 15 days before we can begin constructing them on a large scale....
