Welcome to the first monthly Still Graphics/ PCX Makers Challenge!

So here are the rules:

1. Everyone may enter a PCX, as long as:
The submitter is the creator of the PCX
The PCX is completely new, not posted before either on this website, nor on any other. Cut and Paste ofparts ofthegraphics is allowed, but the whole must be original.
The PCX is not directly converted from another game.
The new PCX must be available for download for the civ community.
The new PCX must be in the same scale as the standard Fireaxis material.2. There is no theme in this competition. Any PCX can participate!

3. The PXC maker can choose any style he wants. For inspiration and ideas the first page of the call thread of that month may contain some request by other members.

4. A link to the PCX together with a preview needs to be posted in this thread APRIL 30 2006. After that a jury thread will be launched in which the winner will be decided by a 1 week poll.

5. This is supposed to be a friendly competition between gentlemen (m/f ;)). Please stay friendly to each other at all times...

Let the requesting begin... :)

Nice city there Pounder, hope you complete the job.

I'd like Aion to finish his Hindu cities, which would surely stand him in good stead for a victory.

I'd like Aion to finish his Hindu cities, which would surely stand him in good stead for a victory.

I'd like that, too, but I don't know if RL has different plans with me...

Well, a pcx of the month would include cities, and you're right, three is enough. ;)

Flamand
Apr 05, 2006, 10:14 AM
Yeah, you're right. I was thinking that myself actually... OK, this one is open for all PCX's... :)

Can I enter something I posted here an hour ago without breaking rule #2?

WildWeazel
Apr 05, 2006, 10:25 AM
Can I enter something I posted on the 2nd, since this competition didn't exist at the time?

Also, we're allowed to submit multiple graphics, right?

edit: one more question- Does a package of graphics count as one entry? For example, a whole or partial terrain set.

Rambuchan
Apr 05, 2006, 10:57 AM
I'd like that, too, but I don't know if RL has different plans with me...Of course I would wish RL to do wonderful things for you, rather than obliging yourself to sit down at the comp and knock out these city sets. But I bringing it up for two reasons a) It's a vote of faith and support for your impressive skills in this department and b) It's something of a tradition for me to bring it up now isnt' it? :mischief:

Can I enter something I posted on the 2nd, since this competition didn't exist at the time?
The title says "April", no? ;)

Also, we're allowed to submit multiple graphics, right?
Yup, as many as you want, but a poll can have only 20 entries. That's perhaps the limiting factor.....

edit: one more question- Does a package of graphics count as one entry? For example, a whole or partial terrain set.
A terrain set or an interface counts as one, seems reasonable...

Then I'll enter Hamlet (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=166019) to get us going.

You lower your personal winning chances by running multiple entries, don't you?

Of course I would wish RL to do wonderful things for you, rather than obliging yourself to sit down at the comp and knock out these city sets. But I bringing it up for two reasons a) It's a vote of faith and support for your impressive skills in this department and b) It's something of a tradition for me to bring it up now isnt' it? :mischief:
If it's such a nice tradition, how could I dare to put an end to this wonderful little banter of ours by really finishing the city set? Imagine how boring it would be without the possibility of teasing me ;)

Quinzy, remove the top-most row of "half windows" you have in the nearest houses.
Remove the floating boxes over the horizon.
Make the shadows lighter, the middle half-shadowed building is totally black in the shadow...
The green windows on the nearest house looks a bit strange.
But, all in all it looks good. ;)
That's my 18 öre. :)

Imagine how boring it would be without the possibility of teasing me ;)Don't worry matey, I've thought about that one already. There are plenty of other traditions we can raise up and substitute it with. How are you on mythical, medieval, cities owned by Lucifer for example?

Oi Ares! No funny stuff! The terrain should be in this contest, and if it is, you should submitt yours (or your part of it, since its a community compilation), and win! :goodjob:

The Last Conformist

I'd think Ares's compilation would violate the ``entirely new'' rule.

The pop head looks great!

Virote_Considon
Apr 06, 2006, 05:46 PM
I still use Fireaxis Terrain for the epic game... it makes scenarios feel more enjoyable and uniqe if the terrain is different. I also link the Conquests to different Terrain sets...

LizardmenRule!

Kyriakos
Apr 07, 2006, 03:35 AM
I think that for voting purposes it is better to just nominate one work/artist :)

So i would like to ask which of the two sets (balcan/wallachian) ppl think it is better to nominate, since i am undecided myself...

you still use firaxis` terrain!?

I am one of the little conservative people who think that the original Firaxis terrain looks pretty well.
I'm not sure if this are exactly the words, but it's aproximately what he said.
Don't forget, he's called "The Last Conformist"! :D

@varwnos: Why do you want just one of the city sets? :(

The Last Conformist
Apr 07, 2006, 04:34 AM
@Trai: That's quite nice, in a restrained sort of way. It'd be my choice among the stuff that's been nominated this far. :)

The double snake is a tad hard to rec'nize at that size, however.

Traianus
Apr 07, 2006, 04:34 AM
Thanks, TLC. BTW, I'm a firaxis tarrain fan too!

Pounder
Apr 07, 2006, 05:55 AM
This competition is just for cities right?

If terrain is included, I just happen to show a bit of the canals that I was working on in my preview.

Kyriakos

@varwnos: Why do you want just one of the city sets? :(

It is just that voting wont work with two sets by one creator ;)
But its ok, since this is a pilot vote anyway

WildWeazel
Apr 14, 2006, 09:52 AM
Too bad about rule 1-D. I guess I'll have to wait until the scenario is released to enter my new roads. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/WeaselOp/bfny15.jpg) :mischief:

Actually, I just wanted to :bump: this thread....

Flamand
Apr 14, 2006, 10:21 AM
They can be included. That rule was more for cities so you don't have huge differences between city sets. ;)

Edit: If I were you I'd add some trafic lights to the crossings, you know those hanging ones you guys have there in the States....

WildWeazel

If we may propose two cities, I'd like to add this one :

http://users.skynet.be/maissearsouye/civ/villes/troglo_ma.jpg

This is inspired by troglodytic cities in Cappadocia ( central Turkey ). This city is special because it doesn't get larger. It just digs more and more caves in hills.
