Have fun!!!

This course is relatively easy in that I was able to complete it with Civil Service Discovered in 1240 B.C.

Just a reminder if you create your own course make sure to send it to
gbno1fan as he actually creates the course!

Is the grade just for the ability to say "I got an A+" or does it mean something else?

Pretty much just to say 'I got and A+'

It is all in good fun, so by simlar university standards to what I took, a C was the bare minimum requried to 'pass' or advance through the course. An A+ in this case is an extremly well played game. Actually for that matter a C in this game would still be in the upper crust of the GOTM competitors

I didn't see the the difficulty level, maybe I missed it. The CS slingshot is very easy at some levels and very difficult at others, of course.

Sorry man :S it was never really posted

The difficulty is Prince, all the rules are the same as what we are actually playing for the demogame if it ever starts

The CS slingshot isn't praticularily hard at any diffculy level, what is hard is how early you complete it. I tell you what you beat 1240 B.C. and then next one is on me :goodjob:  (it can be done I didn't optimize)

Have fun Memphus

Hi,

my first attempt at this was similar to DaveMcW's game, although not so flawlessly executed as it seems, as I needed 3 or so turns longer than he.

However, this being an university and all that, I decided to do some academic study, right out of the ivory tower and not suitable for real play... :mischief:

DaveMcW used a sophisticated gameplay, taking detours to Bronze Working to use chopping for a second worker (probably while growing the city), rushing wonders that produce GPPs for great prophets, using the Oracle to discover CoL and taking another detour to Polytheism so that the great prophet can be used to discover CS...all fancy stuff, and highly sophisticated.

One scientific principle is to keep it simple. So...I played a again, and kept it simple. :p Workers? Pah, building the first only delays growth. Great Prophets? Way too complicated. Chopping? Not possible without workers. Taking the prerequisit tech of CS with the Oracle? Why not CS itself?

So I decided to research CoL myself, and use the Oracle to grab CS. I wanted to let my capital grow as fast as possible - no worker building. And the only detour I took was Fishing, because it would allow me to use the 3 commerce coastal tiles. After Fishing, I researched Mysticism and Meditation (and did not revolt), then Priesthood and started to build the Oracle. Writing was next, then CoL. Beijing used the floodplains to grow to size 5, then used the coastal tiles for the extra commerce to speed up research. Two turns before Writing came in, I worked the 3 hammer hill so that the Oracle and CoL would be finished on the same turn.

Got CS in 1800BC that way. :p

Mind you: This is not suitable for real play, as all the sophisticated tools Dave used will give you much more power long-term. For this short-term goal scenario however, the direct way (with the small Fishing detour) is superior.

What we need now is for more courses to be created, this weekend is hectic for me , but be on the lookout for 20 questions about domestic descisions, complete with pictures, so you don't need the game to try.
