View Full Version : Autoplay Utility?

I need to dry run my mod, to see how the thing plays out witrh only AI players (and me, stuck in a corner, a passive observer to it all).
Unfortunetly, Great Wonder announcements, Diplo messages, and history of the world messages interrupted and foiled my primitive macro program I set up, involving a rock and the space bar.
Anybody have a utility that would just automate all this so I can leave my computer running, come back in a few hours and see what the AI's are up to In The Year 2000..?

Hmmm...
I was wondering if you can do such "test games" in debug-mode? if not, did you try the game so that you edited the game preferences (check all "show popup when wonders are built" and such)?

Or can you skip all popups from the game preferences...?

No, some things still pop up. I thought such a utility existed, but theres so many on the forums with ambiguous names I can't find it, if it it does exist.

When I want to do that, I create a new settler on a tiny island, I disband the others units, I create a strong unit for my only city, I set the Tech-slide to the lower, I put a video-tape on the enter key (a very variation of the stone ;)) and here we go. It never stops, even with diplo or GW messages.

OOoo the Enter Key!! BRILLIANT!
This new Videotape-Enter Key varienty is certainly an improvement over my Rock-SpaceBar method
Good utility, Supa

Rock = prehistoric technology.
Video-tape = information age technology.
Any method involving a video-tape is a huge technical advancement compared to a rock.

This is one of the most amusing threads Ive read in a while...

I personally have the "corner of a book" method, which I suppose falls between the two of you...technologically speaking

I've yet to discover the 'literature' advance

I can't believe how buggy the tech tree is. You can discover the "keyboard-to-place-under-the-stone" tech, without discovering "literature" first.
How can you have keyboard without litterature?

I guess we'll never know.:crazyeye:

I don't see the problem - by far the greater part of what's written on keyboards isn't literature.

But keyboards were made to write lititure. Why do you need auto-play? I bet good modders like Roccotech and EL don't use it.

Maybe some people want to see how the AI behaves on a certain map??

I use this from time to time to check out how balanced a scenario is. Nothing bad with that, is it?

That's great, Supa. Maybe you should post that in the utils suboforum- Supa's Autoplayer

Gravity, one would assume.

But why not use something else? IT would also press other things. Oh well...I'll make one and do it just for da fun of it.

Why did I use a videotape ? Because I've got one near the computer, it's heavy enough and it's stable. I could have used a book but it hasn't the same charm as a videotape. ;)

Plus, a book would be pretty low tech. I mean where are we, Turkestan?! Come On!

Maybe a book on tape? That's still a little second-world..

I get the implication that modders who use any kind of auto play arent good modders?...I find it much more useful to dry run the AI, than to find out that they arent even researching techs(UTC weasel...lol) just before proposed release

Hey- I told you I hadn't played it much yet :p
