O.k. I need help, b/c I don't want to lose a sweetheart starting location to Alexander. Details:

- Monarch, Standard, Pangea, Epic, 7 AI's.

I had to pinch off two Isthmuses in order to keep all other Civs off of 1/4 of the map I had all to myself. I suceeded. I had Bismark crammed away with 5 cities, wiped him out and got the Pyramids and The Collosus.

But Alexander wiped out Mansu AND Hathesput. I tried to save Washington by going to war against Alexander, but Washington still lost. Only Huayana Capac is left, with 4 cities, but he has to go, he is trading techs with Alexander. But I am still the tech leader, having just picked up Infantry before my first war with Alexander.

Alexander has 50% of the land, I have 35%.

It is 1716.

It looks like Alex will go for you at some point. Huayna Capac should be Alex's friend, so as long as you hold your cities you won't lose by domination. If you are outresearching him or, at least, at the same speed, SS is a good option. Aim for the space elevator and you should win the game. Be careful! Alex is a war psycho, and he will attack.
If you feel he's faster in research, your only choice is to attack, at least to slow him down. If I imagine the situation correctly, you have a very large border with him, so the war will be a tactical nightmare, that's why I'd suggest you the SS as a first option. Diplo seems out (and a possible loss!), and culture probably too. You have to choose between war (domination) and defensive war (spaceship), it depends on the tech pace.
If I were you, I'd build all kind of science-boosting infra in my most important cities, try to secure at least 2 sources of oil, beeline for the modern wonders and computers for labs. At that point the SE is not far away, and it's almost sure to get it with rush-buy.

The only border is one little city blocking the Isthmus, which made the first war great, he lost like 40 Cavalry to my stack of Infantry, and I didn't lose a single unit!

I'm hoping to build spies and look for any defense-neglected city, then raze it, if only to slow him down in the space race.

if he has good coastal cities, sneak in marines and a lot of ships. If he has a capital on the coast, THAT is your target. his GNP will be crippled

Thanks for the tips - but I lost. What I really needed to do was to buddy up with Huayana, but he was such a jerk that this was impossible. Alexander took the domination win from simple culture building in his existing empire.

too bad about the loss, had my advice come prior to reading about it i would have said start the war and get it going, since he's blocked by an isthmus you control land a good sized force in his back yard and raze any coastal cities he has then conquer and keep his core cities. Once Alex is oblitered swing back by and take out Hyana. Or at least that would have been the advice, sorry
