carmen510 Apr 09, 2006, 02:52 PM w00t! Now I can play it!
Hikaro Takayama Apr 09, 2006, 03:23 PM Okay, I'm going to assume that we're playing 20 turns for our first turnsets, so here I go:
Pre-turn: WHOA! we're on Emperor?!? Well, expect an early loss then (I've never played on this high of a difficulty setting before) :lol: I notice that the "always wait at end of turn" is NOT set, so I correct that MAJOR problem.....
4000 BC: I notice we're on a BG, but since that tile is beside a river and settleable, so I build Esthar right there... which reveals that we have THREE BG (available on expansion), sugar, and TWO hills with gold. :banana: Esthar building an Enkidu Warrior. I send the worker to road and mine the sugar (sugar rush, anyone :lol: ) Set science to 90% and research on Ceremonial burial (so that we can keep our ingrate citizens happy, once we get done with the expansion phase). Ceremonial burial due at the end of my turnset
3950 BC: WOrker starts road....
3900 BC: :sleep:
3850 BC: After 100 years, our intrepid worker finally completes the road to the sugar, and starts the mine :lol:
3800 BC: :sleep:
3750 BC: Esthar builds an Enkidu Warrior, starts on another Enkidu Warrior. Send Enkidu Warrior to investigate goody huts to the E.
3700 BC: Enkidu Warrior pops goody hut and gets 3 barb warriors....
IT: Harrapan (barb) warrior attacks our regular Enkidu and dies.
3650 BC: Fortify slightly wounded Enkidu warrior in preparation for taking out remaining barbs next turn... Notice Esthar has grown, and sure enough, on Emperor level, having two citizens = Unhappiness, so I draft the ingrate into my research program :evil: Now Ceremonial burial will be in 6 turns. :woohoo:
3600 BC: Barbs move to forest NW of Esthar, so I move my Enkidu Warrior onto a strategical mountain in case they make for the city... (second Enkidu warrior due in 2 turns).
3550 BC: meet Hittite scout... They are not only more advanced than us, but they have a bigger military as well. the only tech they would trade for bronze working was ceremonial burial, but we're getting that in 4 turns anyways, so I didn't trade.....
3500 BC: Esthar expands, worker FINALLY finshes mine (after a mere 300 years :lol: ), and is sent to road and mine BG tiles. Esthar builds Enkidu warrior, starts on settler... Enkidu warrior kept in town for MP duty. First Enkidu warrior sent SE to see if we can find some decent land for our settler, which is due in 8.... Meet Incan Warrior to our N, they are also advanced, and again, the only tech they will trade is Ceremonial burial for or BW, so I tell 'em to shove it.
3450 BC: Hittites pop a goodyhut in the South and get a free warrior (which might explain how the Hittites and Incans both have a bigger military and are ahead in tech already: they are both expansionistic)
3400 BC: Find a good second city spot directly E (two tiles)... It is beside a river and has at least 2 BG, forests, tobacco and mountains nearby.
3350 BC: Hittite warrior enters our territory... Fortunately he's only a conscript and we have an Enkidu warrior in town...
3300 BC: Research Ceremonial Burial, start on Alphabet
3250 BC: Notice Sumeria is going to grow next turn, but it will take 3 turns for the settler to be built, so I MM the city so that the city will grow and the settler will be built in 2
3200 BC: :sleep:
3150 BC: Esthar builds settler, starts on Enkidu Warrior. Settler sent to prime spot three tiles SW. SInce I already have a road through 1 of those tiles, city will be built in 2.... Worker has finished roading BG near Esthar, starts mining them.
3100 BC: Settler reaches coast, and finds a better loc 1 tile over (so that it won't be built on top of a BG), but is still only separated from Esthar by 2 tiles.
3050 BC: Settler moved to new city location... Even WITHOUT cultural expansion, it has 1 game forest tile and THREEE BG tiles :woohoo:
....and that does it for me. I managed to pull us up in tech from being backwards to moderately advanced... Alphabet is due in 33 turns. Our first settler is in position and ready to settle, and I've got a screenshot of the known world, with a number of potential future city sites (all arranged so that they are CxxC with Esthar and each other), along with notation for what I think would be a good order of settling them. The reason I set the hills to the N as the spot for the third city is because (1) it has access to fresh water, (2) it has a good balance of food and shields, and (3) with the FP wheat, the town could be used as a worker and/or settler factory. I chose the spot directly to the E along the river as the fourth city because of the access to fresh water as well as the tobacco and 3 BG tiles, along with the nearby forests.

Yeah... If I'd have been able to build our second city, I'd have called it Kashkabald Forest :p The reason I named the capitol Esthar was because of the FF connection, AND the fact that Esthar was one of the Sumerian Godesses (IIRC), and Gilgamesh was one of the summons from FF VIII as well as being a great king/hero of Sumeria.

[offtopic]
Actually I think the Sumerian goddess is "Ishtar," who happens to be a character in a number of Namco games. As for Gilgamesh, I liked the FF V incarnation better... really neat boss theme!

azzaman333 Apr 10, 2006, 11:59 PM 3000 BC - Slaughterhouse is built. Esthar changes enkidu -> granary, because of the low food compared to sheilds.
IBT - Tiwanaku built close to Esthar.
2950 - 2850 BC - Nothing happening worth noting.
2800 BC - Slaughterhouse: enkidu --> enkidu
2750 - 2710 BC - Boring
2670BC - Machu Picchu is built, giving the impression we will be surrounded.
2630 BC - Slaughterhouse- Enkidu --> Worker
2950BC - No comments.
Hikaro Takayama Apr 11, 2006, 11:31 AM Yeah, just our Freakin' luck that both our neighbors are expansionist....

When the next turns are done, you get 48 hours to say got it, and 48 more to play. That is a long time, and I don't want to stress it.
