I wondered if chopping a forest while producing science, wealth or culture does give you a production bonus, and if anyone ever does that. Especially chopping culture might be a viable strategy...

I belive not. It just gets added to your build overrun and is used when you next build something.

You can convert forests to cash by building a wonder you know will be got by the AI before you finish it.
