Well, I got a little tired about reading so-called-strategies like "make cottages in order to get money" and decided to pull a thread by myself.

Please fell free to post GOOD strategies for Emperor mode or superior. Please dont tell again the usual "strategies" like production-chooping, wonder-chopping, settler-chopping, tree coins at rives with cottages and so on. Basic stuff is supposed to be known in this thread.

I found a strategy that allowed to get pole position arround 1000 BC in the Balanced standard game. It is the following.

The basic idea is:
1. Use Qin Shi Huang (China), :)
2. Build oracle just after researching writing and with the oracle request the Alphabet,
3. Swap any tech with other races but not the Alphabet,:mischief:
4. As soon as you get the Alphabet start Spamming like hell with Settlers everywhere. Use cottages at rivers (3 coins per square) :scan:
5. If you reach the first civ by territory occupied stop expansion and focus on Cho-Ho-Nuk.:D
6. Focus on Population Growth and Militar Units.
7. Give free techs to pathetic civs which are far away (this is prioritary) for them to fell safe to attack the bigger ones.:goodjob:
8. Dont automate workes or they will change cottages for farms to soon and your economy will collapse.
9. Pray(or is it prey?).
10. Luckily win.:king:

Note 1: If after expanding you cant keep up with research commited by other race then forget about that game, you will be crashed nearly for sure. Restart.

Note 2: The IA is bad in Civ4, is cheats badly in order to be competitive in Emperor and superior levels (as usual in strategy games)

Saludos from Spain.

Check out the Emperor REX strategy as posted earlier in the strategy section. The good thing about it is that it is not dependent on any specific traits, UU, or wonders.

9. Pray(or is it prey?).
10. Luckily win.:king:

I'm a little concerned about these two in a "concrete strategies" thread.

. Build oracle just after researching writing and with the oracle request the Alphabet, this seems like a waste to me

Any strategy relying on just 1 Leader is kind of iffy. If you do want a good leader, why not just play Caesar?

5. If you reach the first civ by territory occupied stop expansion and focus on Cho-Ho-Nuk.
Provided you get to machinery. The AI usually comes knocking on my door way before that...

I go for Code of Laws when I do the Oracle slingshot. This tech is really essential if you want to get a stable economy and a good expansion. And as a bonus it sometimes happens you get Confucianism spread well and cash in on that too.

I do believe there's an option to prevent automated workers from building over top of already improved land :)

That being said - I *hate* automating my workers. The only time I have ever used that option is in Alpha Centauri when I had an ocean base...

They just seem to make things so messy ;)
