View Full Version : New Unit: The Trident, take 2!
Orthanc Apr 10, 2006, 10:11 PM Well it's done, again.
Here be the 2nd edition of my 3rd unit, The Trident, it's a fictional sailing battleship as long as the Titanic:eek:
So this thing uses (well, doesn't fill, but it uses) the full frame size normally allowed by FLCster, so beware it really is BIG. File size is big thus, so I had to divide it betwen 3 zip files. This includes an optional Attack D, and if you're really tight on space you can replace the victory with the fidget.
Here's all the files:
Trident (a) (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Trident2a.zip)
Trident (b) (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Trident2b.zip)
Trident (c) (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Trident2c.zip)
(quite long) previews below, animated preview is shown facing south-east instead of south-west like normal to show off the crazy cannon fire (151+ cannons in all, I know I'm nutz:crazyeye: )
And I'm trying out the image shack attachements, due to file restraints:mischief: ...

Ares de Borg Apr 11, 2006, 03:53 AM Yeah, that's my baby...!
Excellent work, Orthanc!
Heretic_Cata Apr 11, 2006, 04:57 AM Holy schnizels - that thing is HHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGE :goodjob:
One thing though, i don't know much about this but, fireing all cannons at once would probably tilt the ship on one side. But it looks cool.
I think i might find a place for it in my 3rd mod.
Hikaro Takayama Apr 11, 2006, 11:26 AM W00T!! This is going into the FF mod as soon as I get off work (interestingly enough, I've been playing the FF mod as Alexandria, so I'll get to see this sucker in action :D).....
Rambuchan Apr 11, 2006, 11:46 AM Well I added the first Trident to Mughals v2, with glee. Now I've got further options!
Bloody good work once again orthanc
GeneralMatt Apr 11, 2006, 11:49 AM That is HUGE! Beautiful ship!
I will Download soon! Your ships rock (not literaly though Imagine, you wouldn't feel a storm in that thing!)
I would figure that all gunners on this thing are deaf? Imagine the powr of one of his broadsides!
Mithadan Apr 11, 2006, 12:05 PM Crazy. Nuts. Insane. So big we're back to the old days of being forced to split the zips!
themanuneed Apr 11, 2006, 12:46 PM Incredible. Just incredible. You can even choose your favorite attack  !! Or have a different one when bombing the shore !!
Orthanc Apr 11, 2006, 02:13 PM Thanks everyone, glad to see the ludicrously ginourmous size of this thing is being recognized.:crazyeye:
Grandraem Apr 11, 2006, 02:55 PM How could anything stand up to that much firepower? Looks great.:)
Orthanc Apr 11, 2006, 04:04 PM :yup:That's the idea, and you're probably right Heretic_Cata, firing that many cannons at once probably would make this thing capsize, still just think of what that many iron cannon balls, 20+ pounds each, travelling at the speed of sound, would do to, well, anything really.
Rambuchan Apr 12, 2006, 07:19 AM Thanks everyone, glad to see the ludicrously ginourmous size of this thing is being recognized.I bet you say that to all the ladies
The Last Conformist Apr 12, 2006, 09:30 AM Well it's done, again.
Here be the 2nd edition of my 3rd unit, The Trident, it's a fictional sailing battleship as long as the Titanic:eek:
That's more than 3x the size of the biggest wooden warship ever built, and that one they had to fit with a metal frame for it to keep shape. This thing could never take to sea intact.
IOW, it's a great fantasy unit.
Stormrage Apr 12, 2006, 05:42 PM How did I miss this one? Its like the biggest ship ever :D
Man, I wouldn`t want to piss off the captain! :mischief:
Snorken Apr 13, 2006, 11:10 AM Marvelous unit, my dear chap. :D
Vuldacon Apr 13, 2006, 03:12 PM :goodjob: Wowzers :wow: Orthanc, This ship is larger than "Noah's Arc"! ...If set to be able to transport as well, it looks like it could transport 10 Armies... This Hugh Ship appears Ominous in size and will reflect the Power of the ones who own it. :goodjob:
The Last Conformist Apr 13, 2006, 03:25 PM If I shall criticize anything about the thing (except from its inherent implausibility), it's that the death seems way too gentle for the collapse something so humongous. Maybe have it break apart, Titanic-style?
Goldflash Apr 13, 2006, 05:51 PM Wowzers
Wowzers, Penny!

Orthanc Apr 13, 2006, 06:00 PM Yeah, the thing with breaking apart is, I have to decide from the very start whether a ship will break apart for the death, and then make each part seperately. That's what I did for the Titanic, it works, but I have to know from the start that's what I'll be doing, and it makes things quite a bit more complicated. Thanks for the suggestion though.
woodelf Apr 14, 2006, 11:32 AM Very nice unit. I love seeing it sink!
Conan2002 Jun 06, 2009, 05:43 AM Bravo!
Very good, I'll use it
Ares de Borg Jun 06, 2009, 06:04 AM Yes, Orthanc is the master of sail. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any release for a long time now :(
One thing though, Conan: Please look at the date of the last post, most people consider it inappropriate to bump a thread that has been dead for so long.
bigdog5994 Jun 06, 2009, 08:18 PM has anyone used this big bastard in a mod yet?? if so i would like to download that mod and play it
