View Full Version : Arch Angel
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 01:57 PM I really like religious artwork. I was looking at Christian artwork and I liked the pictures of Arch Angel Michael. So I wanted to make it, but I dont have many cool props and clothing.
I hope someone can find a use for this! haha

CartesianFart Apr 12, 2006, 02:17 PM What is that stuff flying down from above, leaves?
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 02:20 PM fire, i wanted to make it blue but then it might become civ color.
Heretic_Cata Apr 12, 2006, 02:21 PM Holy meteors !!! It looks so cool.
If i am going to make a fantasy mod, i am definetly going to add this.:goodjob:
Are those meteors ? :D
If you want some ideas to some "angelic equipments" you should check out the angel & archangel in Heroes3.
Don't mean to sound like a pest, but the wings could be a little more angelicly coloured. :D (or maybe i have been in the M&M universe a bit too much:crazyeye:)
EDIT: I see ... holy fire. :)
WildWeazel Apr 12, 2006, 02:34 PM :wow: Awesome! This is your best unit yet! :goodjob:
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 02:40 PM well it was based off of byzantine arch angel micheal so I think the color of the wings are good.
Do you like the halo? It looks much better in poser than civ scale
Kyriakos Apr 12, 2006, 03:39 PM Great work, but the halo doesnt look like a halo at all. His dress is clearly byzantine, but halos are always round and go over the head :)
Quinzy Apr 12, 2006, 03:45 PM halo are ALWAYS round?!?!
dude, you are greek and you dont you know El Greco? he painted square halos :p
great unit Shiro! top notch!!
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 03:56 PM the halo is my idea. Its energy coming out from his head. I really liked it ^ ^;;;;
Halos are in almost every religion it was cool and interesting to see.
woodelf Apr 12, 2006, 04:06 PM I like the falling leaves/fire attack. He's an amazing unit Shiro.
Quinzy Apr 12, 2006, 04:06 PM ditto on the halo, its a fantastic idea!
WildWeazel Apr 12, 2006, 04:09 PM If you're thinking about making any more angel units (;)) IMO it would be cool to have a just a normal-looking guy in a white robe with a sword, and a slight glow around him... and maybe hovering.
Stormrage Apr 12, 2006, 04:45 PM You could make something like Tyriel from Diablo II :D
Thanks Shiro, thank you so much, this will be perfect for my mod :goodjob:
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 04:57 PM his victory is supposed to be making a cross, i might have to fix it.
Kyriakos Apr 12, 2006, 05:27 PM [QUOTE=Quinzy]halo are ALWAYS round?!?!
dude, you are greek and you dont you know El Greco? he painted square halos :p
QUOTE]
I confess that i am not really familiar with his work, but i dont remember any square halo, and from searching the web it seems that he didnt paint halos at all, or at least the paintings i saw didnt have halos although they had angels/saints :)
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 05:30 PM http://www.lope.ca/halo/
LizardmenRule! Apr 12, 2006, 07:03 PM this is awesomely good!
thanks, shiro :)
Hikaro Takayama Apr 12, 2006, 07:07 PM Shiro, this is perfect! Since Final Fantasy I didn't have summoned creatures, I was going to give the Light Warriors and the Good Guys from Final Fantasy II an Angelic summon, and the bad guys from both games a demon... I'm using Kinboat's Balrog as the demon, but neither of Kinboat's angels really fit what I had in mind, but THIS is PERFECT!!
どおもありがとございます!
7ronin Apr 12, 2006, 08:01 PM Beautiful work!
odintheking Apr 12, 2006, 08:03 PM Awesome, Shiro! The halo is awesome.
Bungus Apr 12, 2006, 09:27 PM That's random. But probably your best unit yet. You're getting good.
For the cross victory, or anything like like it (I'm not suggesting you redo it), I think it would look better if most of the movement was coming from his wrist. The sword attacks are dramatic. I think you used more wrist movement there.
Also, its been awhile since I've been to church, but I believe when Christians make the sign of the cross, they go from top to bottom, then left to right. Maybe someone a little more pious than I could confirm this.
ShiroKobbure Apr 12, 2006, 09:41 PM I have never been to a christian church ^ ^;;;;
WildWeazel Apr 12, 2006, 11:22 PM I'm not Catholic, but I believe that's correct. Another option could be lifting his arms and looking up.
William GBTW Apr 12, 2006, 11:25 PM Actually only catholics make the sign of the cross; although there might me some pentacostals that do. They go up, down, left and right, IIRC.
Olorin0222 Apr 13, 2006, 12:51 AM I'm not catholic, but when you cross yourself don't you always end over your heart?
Sorry for the threadjack.
ShiroKobbure Apr 13, 2006, 12:53 AM maybe angels do it different haha
Mithadan Apr 13, 2006, 01:04 AM Both cross top to bottom.
Roman Catholics cross left to right.
Eastern Orthodox cross right to left. If this is supposed to be Byzantine styled, then I suggest the right to left method.
Anglicans (Episcopalians) and even some Lutherans cross themselves too. Pentacostals probably don't, they just wave their arms around in the air. ;)
WildWeazel Apr 13, 2006, 07:40 AM maybe angels do it different haha
Yeah, I highly doubt they mimic any of our little traditions. ;)
Heretic_Cata Apr 13, 2006, 07:49 AM Eastern Orthodox cross right to left. If this is supposed to be Byzantine styled, then I suggest the right to left method.
Yes: up, down, right, left for us. I always thought everyone did it the same way. :hmm:
Also, this is not a mistake - kuz it works, but why is the default file named defult. :mischief:
Heretic_Cata Apr 13, 2006, 07:54 AM Another option could be lifting his arms and looking up.
Well technicaly, that would be a bit muslim-ish :D, but they have angels too, so it's ok. He could bow his head a bit and a small beam of light shining tward his head. Or lift his head and (just) his sword and the beam of light.
William GBTW Apr 13, 2006, 08:00 AM I like his little catholic thing but why don't you have a sound file that says, "Praise God the Son and Holy Ghost", or "God in three persons holy trinity"; although that would be almost blapheming.
Grandraem Apr 13, 2006, 08:23 AM Absolutely beautiful unit. And well animated.:)
Quinzy Apr 13, 2006, 09:18 AM never mind, i'm a moron...
Heretic_Cata Apr 13, 2006, 10:12 AM I like his little catholic thing but why don't you have a sound file that says, "Praise God the Son and Holy Ghost", or "God in three persons holy trinity"; although that would be almost blapheming.
Do catholics say that when they make the cross?
We say "In the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost".
Quinzy Apr 13, 2006, 10:14 AM catholics say that too, i dont know what william is on about at all..
Stormrage Apr 13, 2006, 04:15 PM God in three persons holy trinity
William GBTW Apr 13, 2006, 04:20 PM The baptist say "Praise God the Son and Holy Ghost" and the Lutherens say "God in three persons holy trinity".
WildWeazel Apr 13, 2006, 04:27 PM The baptist say "Praise God the Son and Holy Ghost"
Actually, we just say whatever we feel like saying. :p Not that it matters anyway, people can use whatever sound effects they want.
William GBTW Apr 13, 2006, 04:39 PM :hmm: Well the Southern Baptist from round here is say the doxology which Ithink that is it.
Stormrage Apr 13, 2006, 04:44 PM :hmm: Well the Southern Baptist from round here is say the doxology which Ithink that is it.
Where are you from anyway?
William GBTW Apr 13, 2006, 04:45 PM Where are you from anyway?
You haven't figured it out yet  Texas.
Goldflash Apr 13, 2006, 06:07 PM ..Stormy isn't from the States...
William GBTW Apr 13, 2006, 06:08 PM I was refreeing to WildWeazal about hte Baptist and yes Stormrage is from somewhere in the Former Jugoslavia; I think Croatia or maybe the Croat areas of Bosnia.
Stormrage Apr 13, 2006, 08:43 PM I am sooo from the States! Just not your states! :D
Yeah, I`m from Croatia. We are catholics, but I`m one quarter orthodox, with a personal interest in judaism and buddhism :crazyeye: So, Shiro, the unit looks great, no matter what in what directions the cross goes :goodjob:
William GBTW Apr 13, 2006, 10:08 PM So Croats=Catholic
Serbs=Equal Orthodox
Muslim (aka Bosniak)=Muslim
Steph Apr 14, 2006, 02:50 AM We say "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spririt".
Ghost = the thing that is supposed to haunt Scottish Castles.
And it's done up, bottom, left right, but I learned it the other way.
When I was young and had some religious teaching, the priest , as he was facing us, was doing it on purpose on the wrong way, so we could learn to do it as if looking in a mirror...
But I was the only one who was alreadly correctly lateralized, so I did it exactly as he did, on the wrong side.:crazyeye:
Bungus Apr 14, 2006, 01:09 PM Actually, we just say whatever we feel like saying. :p Not that it matters anyway, people can use whatever sound effects they want.I make rocket-ship noises.
Count down to blasphemy..
Stormrage Apr 14, 2006, 04:14 PM I used to do it the Orthodox way, cos my parents aren`t religious, so I learned it by myself. And I`m lefthanded. Yes, I`m a sinister bastard
Plotinus Apr 14, 2006, 10:11 PM The Doxology is the text that always gets appended to the Psalms when they are sung, namely, "Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen." I've never heard anyone say that whilst crossing themselves, apart from people who cross themselves when it is sung. And plenty of Anglicans cross themselves too.
I think this is a splendid unit. Very nicely animated!
William GBTW Apr 14, 2006, 10:13 PM Yeah I know...I don't have it memorized cuase I'm mormon and we don't do that stuff and will was just an idea...good unit!
Samez Apr 15, 2006, 03:22 AM Ahmm so if the angel is speaking perhaps make him speak latin. (something like: in nomine patres et filii et spiriti sancti) (well my grammer is probably wrong:mischief: )
thats what might be better for catholics don't know how it's about the greaco/orthodox church, but latin is the language of the church....
ShiroKobbure Apr 15, 2006, 03:25 AM shouldnt he speak hebrew? ^ ^;;
Hebrew was the language god gave to isreal right?
Samez Apr 15, 2006, 05:56 PM hes but hwo of us is able to get out one sentence in good old hebrewish? Latin there is at least some relation to the english language but hebrewish well but perhaps your right, but on the other hand a simpel "amen" will work better because it's the same in all languages.... on the other hand it5's somehow a kind of blasphemy to finish a fight like praying to god....
William GBTW Apr 15, 2006, 10:34 PM God speaks in all langauges. He was aramaic that he spoke as well as Greek.
ShiroKobbure Apr 15, 2006, 11:53 PM i dont think greek is ever in the bible until after jesus, and probably 100 years after. And latin is much later
William GBTW Apr 16, 2006, 12:08 AM But Greek was spoken by the some of the apostles.
Plotinus Apr 16, 2006, 03:31 AM The New Testament is written in Greek. Jesus would probably have taught in Aramaic, but it is possible that he spoke Greek too. Paul would have taught in Greek. Christians even in the western (Latin-speaking) half of the empire typically spoke Greek until the end of the second century.
Although I don't really see what this has to do with anything...
ShiroKobbure Apr 16, 2006, 03:35 AM i was just curious
I didnt think the jews of jesus time spoke greek. And none of the new testament was written in jesus time.
Also is Aramaic early Hebrew? Or did Jews speak both?
Plotinus Apr 16, 2006, 08:04 AM Aramaic is a semitic language - or, technically, a whole family of related languages, rather like the different dialects of Chinese. Various forms of it were spoken throughout the Middle East from early antiquity onwards, and some are still spoken today. Parts of the Old Testament were written in one form of it, although most of the OT was of course written in Hebrew. Several different dialects made up the everyday language of Palestine in Jesus' day. Hebrew, a largely unrelated language spoken by the Jews, was also still spoken at this time, and would continue to be spoken in Palestine for another couple of centuries before largely dying out other than as a literary language (the Hebrew spoken in Israel today is a modern resuscitation of the language). But no-one knows exactly what roles Hebrew and Aramaic played during this period, especially given the extra complication of Greek, the official Roman language, which was extensively spoken in the cities. It would not have been uncommon for a Palestinian Jew in Jesus' day to speak Greek, although obviously the more educated you were and the bigger the city you lived in, the more likely you were to speak it. The variant of Aramaic called Syriac - which was spoken in Edessa, the first officially Christian city - became the standard language of Christianity in the Middle East for centuries.
Celtic Prince Apr 17, 2006, 09:31 AM I don't know about all that, but is there any way we could get this guy with a bow. I need an Angelic archer.
Rambuchan Apr 17, 2006, 06:47 PM This is a fantastic unit Shiro. The cross sign the angel makes is perfectly consistent with all the church going I've done as a youth. Imho the sound file, if done, should go "In the Name of The Father and of The Son and of The holy Ghost." That's what we said and what people still say in Catholic churches when making the sign of the cross. And isn't it a fitting thing for an angel to say after slaying <insert your servant of darkness here>?
I'll definitely be using this unit. Top job!
The Last Conformist Apr 17, 2006, 06:54 PM Ahmm so if the angel is speaking perhaps make him speak latin. (something like: in nomine patres et filii et spiriti sancti) (well my grammer is probably wrong:mischief: )
In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti.
Rambuchan Apr 17, 2006, 06:55 PM ^ Yeah that'd be even better. I hear Plotinus has got a bit of a side line in voice over acting :mischief:
ShiroKobbure Apr 17, 2006, 07:22 PM maybe one of the cut and pasters can make a better magic attack <.< >.>
Kyriakos Apr 17, 2006, 09:32 PM I don't know about all that, but is there any way we could get this guy with a bow. I need an Angelic archer.
Why, are you making a ww1 scen?
Snorken Apr 19, 2006, 11:57 AM In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti.Ah, reminds me of "The Boondock Saints", great movie.
