We on the staff are aware the Patch 1.61 is out. It is NOT yet legal for HOF play.

It seems that I was right about the anarchy exploit; it is not fixed in patch 1.61. Exactly as I have predicted!:) Since they reduce the value of forest chops, may be the anarchy exploit isn't as effective. Does this mean it will be taken off the ban list? Of course, whatever your final decision is fine with me.

I think it is, it just didn't get mentioned in the change list:

For those of you currently playing with the HOF mod, may want to check out this thread:

Good point Moonsinger. The current HOF mod only works with 1.52, not with 1.61. You may notice we tried to indicate which patch the mod works with in the mods version number ;). Note this is a general problem. All mods that are based on Civ's .py/.xml will need updating to incorporate the changes in 1.61. Don't expect mods that worked in 1.52 to just work in 1.61.

Does this mean that there will be another HOF update with 1.52? Because, if not, we should go ahead and patch anyway.

I'm kind of itching to install the patch, but now I see how empty the tables are, and how much they nerfed builders, I've also got the HOF bug and I'm really torn here.

Regardless of the timing, there will be a final update when we close the Beta HOF.

If you follow the Copy/Rename instructions people have been posting you can have both versions. The main thing for people to remember is that none of the 1.52 mods will work with the 1.61 patch.

Dual install is pretty easy.

1. Copy "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" in Program Files/Firaxis Games, to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV v1.52".

2. Rename "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" in My Documents/My Games, to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV v1.52".

3. Install the patch.

4. Run from one directory or the other to get the version you want. You'll also be able to install mods separately for the two versions, save games will be separate for the two versions, etc. The new version will have a clean install with no mods, which is probably what you want (since many old mods won't work).

FYI.........

Wow! I'm surprised that works. I'm a software engineer by trade, so I know a fair bit about how games usually install, and normally registry settings will be tied to install dir and it's a nightmare trying to pull something like that off. Never would have occurred to me to even try it. Thanks for the tip! (and thanks to Firaxis for a sensible registry)
