Easy question -- the patch is out, do we upgrade? If not, the DP's at least will have to either stay on 1.52 or maintain dual installations.

I guess to answer that...is the save compatible?

I think we should finish the game on the patch on which we have started it. It changes too much.

Problem with that..is that we would all have to maintain a dual load of civ or we would have to have DP's who had a dual load.

Dave adn others..what has been done in the past with patches..or did the demo civ 3 game start much later in the patch process.

I know I don't want to switch back and forth. I'd vote for us to use the patch. However I'd like to hear confirmation that it won't effect the save.

Also, how do dual load cIV? I don't quite understand that. Does that mean I reload it on my computer in a different folder?

I did it when 1.52 came out (1.09 and 1.52) by making a total copy of the subdirectory under program files, and then applying 1.52. A desktop shortcut can then be made pointing to the older version.

A lot of people did the same thing at a later date.

On the compatibility issue, I'm as certain as I can be, without actually doing it with the public version, that it will work. If it didn't work we would just have to have DPs (and maybe others) uninstall, reinstall, patch to 1.52, make a copy, patch to 1.61. Ugly but workable even in the worst case.

I'm guessing we're going to have to patch, or dual load as stated, as many of the players here are also playing the MTDG and ISDG, which will use the patch. I plan on patching, but am waiting until I finish GOTM5.

I think we should wait a week, and see if there are any significant issues reported. If there aren't, we should update.

I've already patched and don't want to dual load. Patch it.

Well at least lets wait to the end of this month. To the next GOTM edition.

Has anyone tried the save with the new patch?

I'm up next, and must patch for ISDG -- so from my view it's either pull this game along, or run dual image.

Someone who's already patched, please load the save and post some screenies of each city and the main screen so we can compare and see if it's going to change the game.
