View Full Version : A Sumerian Tale
Ansar Apr 14, 2006, 03:46 PM Gilgamesh looked at the RNG Map Gods, and asked "why?", the RNG Map Gods simply pointed to Gilgamesh's starting position. The Map Gods also talked about conquering the world with an iron fist. You cannot dominate the world, you must destroy all other civilizations. Gilgamesh saw this as not much of a challenge and thought that he would have a easy time, but then, the gods spoke again and said, you must also not connect any weaponry improvement sources until 1000 BC, which is when you will declare war upon the whole world, you may destroy other civilizations before 1000 BC, you may also settle near/next to weaponry resources, but you cannot settle ON the weaponry resources such as horses or iron. No swords or horseback shall be permitted until 1000 BC. Also, you never give in, even if you dont have one single defender. And you cannot build archers until 1000 BC. One last thing, you cannot counter-attack, except with warriors, well until 1000 BC that is...
"And a reminder of your starting position" the gods said:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_1.JPG
"Good luck and have fun! and remember the rules!" the gods said before saying goodbye to Gilgamesh. And Gilgamesh thought, "well this is going to be a little tough"...when he noticed no resources in his starting position?!
And he breathed a sigh of relief when he settled the city of Ur on the spot and he could see silks. "these silks will come in handy for the village, now everybody will have silk jammies and robes thanks to me!:smug:".
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_2.JPG
And Gilgamesh fell asleep thinking about all the plans and given such an odd task by the gods...
carmen510 Apr 14, 2006, 04:26 PM Nice start!!!

Ansar Apr 14, 2006, 05:53 PM Just notced this. Heh. No resources until 1000BC. Heh. Good luck. Heh. *Walks away*
J/K This looks good, I will follow it. ;)
Well, I wasnt feeling creative and I wanted something more than just killing the AI straight-up.:scan:
Ansar Apr 14, 2006, 07:10 PM King Gilgamesh inspected the work done around the city, and noticed that the first expedition was out and ready to go into the unknown. Also, John finished the road and was heading towards the silks.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_3.JPG
In 3600 BC, the second Enkidu expedition was ready to go explore the east. King Gilgamesh was impressed by how well he handle his small empire. A map was laid out on the table on how the western expedition was going, King Gilgamesh was pleased with this great piece of knowledge.:king: He also noticed someone mapped out a route for the eastern expedition.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_4.JPG
King Gilgamesh also noticed the knowledge of god-worshipping was to be discovered in 10 turns. Also, he thought of settling the land around Ur, but still didnt have enough information about the land around, so he decided he would not mess with the city-planning or as the wise men called it "dot-mapping". King Gilgamesh also noticed Ur was building a barracks, he thought it must have been those damn governors always thinking they know the best. King Gilgamesh asked that the barracks be changed to a Granary which would help store extra food for when expeditions to settle new land came, the settlers would need food and the Granary would help Ur keep food for its citizens and go back to its normal population.Top notch move, King Gilgamesh thought.:smug:
Vind2 Apr 14, 2006, 07:34 PM Nice game and start! What difficulty is it on?
Ansar Apr 14, 2006, 07:36 PM Monarch, Tiny.
conquer_dude Apr 14, 2006, 09:53 PM Uh, why are the updates really short?
Ansar Apr 14, 2006, 10:45 PM Everything was going smooth sailing, heck, the eastern exploration expedition crew found King Gilgamesh incense to make the whole village smell nice and make the people happy. But 3500 BC was THE year. Lots of things happened...one of them was Sumeria growing bigger.:)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_5.JPG
And the second good news...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_6.JPG
King Gilgamesh also realized if he knows the civ, better trade with them and get the good deals quickly!
Unfortunately, the AI didnt want to trade for any Sumerian bronze working secrets, it seemed they were researching the bronze techniques too. This dissapointed the king and fell into a slump.:( But right next turn, King Gilgamesh was happily greeted by Ethel , the Trade Advisor.
Ethel- Sir, we have silks!
Gilgamesh- Excellent! Now I can have my silk jammies and be able to sleep soundly.
Ethel- Um...sure, also the townspeople are happy!:)
Gilgamesh- Good, thank you for the notice.
3450 BC came around and the eastern exploration ran into none other than the hitties...Ooh, how Gilgamesh hated that civilization from past games...Gilgamesh made it clear in his agenda, he would make Mursillis suffer the most...But before that, he would see what Mursillis had to trade...Once again, no trade... King Gilgamesh thought, we must trade to survive in the race of technology...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_7.JPG
And in 3300 BC, great discovery of religious beliefs were discovered and were furthered studied to a form of Mysticism...which helped him in trading the basic religion beliefs for things like an American alphabet...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_8.JPG
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_9.JPG
And traded the Ceremonial Burial tactics to the Portuguese and the Hitties for all their money because as King Gilgamesh had read in a book, once you trade to someone, better trade it around before someone else trades it.:D
@Conquer_Dude: Sorry I have been doing short updates...hopefully this update was to your liking in size?:)
FascistRepublic Apr 15, 2006, 11:39 AM Good going. Enjoy the PJ's!
Ansar Apr 15, 2006, 11:53 AM King Gilgamesh awoke and saw that his empire was growing nicely and he realized...he forgot to make a "dotmap". "Hmm, I guess I should start by getting some knowledge on the land around Ur." and so, Gilgamesh called Pablo, the foreign advisor.
Gilgamesh- Pablo, bring me an updated map of the territory around Ur.
Pablo- Yes sir, also, I would recommend reading "Dotmapping for Dummies" , it is a great reference to dot-mapping.
Gilgamesh- Very well, I shall look to this book...now where is the map?
Pablo- Right here sir. If you need more dot-mapping help, you can call me again cause I know dot-mapping.:smug:
King Gilgamesh opened the map and used the book for reference, the book said...
the most recommended placement is CxxxC, if you are going for war, use CxxC, and if you are doing "scientist farming", use CxC.
:hmm: I should use CxxxC, considering im not doing war until later...and so, King Gilgamesh scribbled dots on the map and sent it to the settler camp.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_10.JPG
In 2950 BC, the granary was finished and the first settler expedition was to begin training. Finally in 2670, the expedition set off to the bananas north of Ur. The granary did its job and brought food to the village so it could grow fast again. King Gilgamesh noticed all of this and realized before the next expedition, he had enough time to build a barracks. These barracks would come in handy for the war...and to build better defenses.

conquer_dude Apr 15, 2006, 05:32 PM Well, I actually don't mind the shorter ones if there are tons of updates like you did. :)
Very good. :goodjob:

Hmmm, where have I heard of that addiction before?
Ansar Apr 16, 2006, 06:47 AM Hmmm, where have I heard of that addiction before?
:mischief: (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=165778)
Ansar Apr 16, 2006, 08:00 AM Smooth sailing going on in the Sumerian empire, until in 2550 BC, the Hitties do a move they will regret in the future...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_12.JPG
"That city will burn to the ground first!" King Gilgamesh said to himself, I will send a stack of archers and send the citizens of Tarsus to their doom. Meanwhile, a letter arrived from the Eastern Expedition crew, King Gilgamesh opened it and read...
Sir, Mursillis blocked our route up north, so we are coming back to Sumeria to defend the homeland and make sure no civil disorders break out, also, we heard about the new city, Sumer , tis a great place to live, or so people have said. Well, the expedition will be back in Sumeria in about 3 turns(give or take 120 years).
Your expedition guide,
Jimmy.
King Gilgamesh screamed :aargh: "Another reason why the Hitties must be destroyed!"...only 1500 more years to go..., the next day, Gilgamesh recieved news that the Mysticism project was completed, and so, the trading began...and it was over before it even started...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_13.JPG
It seemed both Prince Herny and Mursillis were out of everything...nothing to trade, cheap people, Gilgamesh should have known better...next thing research was set on a more advanced bronze, but this bronze was silver ,and harder...and scientists said if acquired, Sumeria could make swordsmen...this made Gilgamesh giddy like a schoolgirl, but his smile turned to a frown like a cloud on a sunny day, all because of the damn restriction..."no war until 1000 BC", oh well, still research, just to be ready for the war!:D King Gilgamesh said with a grin. And in 2510, another letter arrived:
King Gilgamesh, we have landing!:D
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_141.JPG
in 2470, the expedition came and they were greeted a party and goods from the townspeople for their bravery.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/assort_baked_goods.jpghttp://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Wine_Bottle.jpg
In the end, King Gilgamesh got drunk and fell asleep until the next day...
FascistRepublic Apr 16, 2006, 12:36 PM Wait, a party and I want invited!;) Grrrrrrrrrrreat update!
conquer_dude Apr 16, 2006, 12:57 PM  This rocks. Keep going. :)
Ansar Apr 17, 2006, 06:55 AM King Gilgamesh awoke in the afternoon, surprised by how much he slept, last thing he remembered was wine and laughing and lots of "hip, hip, hooray!".He noticed that the empire was doing good, and he also noticed the barracks finished, this meant time to begin the settler phase again.:) He also noticed the empire was in a deficit and realized if he put the economy back in surplus, it would slow the research down too much. Finally, in 2190 BC, the second settler expedition was set, this time going NW towards the tobbaco fields, but unlike the first settler expedition, this one would be accompanied by a Enkidu Warrior to ensure new town disorders caused by corruption and for protection.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_15.JPG
And another Enkidu Warrior was finished in Ur and it began another settler expedition...":hmm: King Gilgamesh was thinking...this granary was a great idea!:smug:, now I know why in the storybooks it tells people who want to quickly expand build a granary.:)" Suddenly a letter arrived at the door of Gilgamesh's palace.http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_16.JPGApperently, that was a bluff, foolish Portuguese, for threatening us, they shall feel the sting of a sword soon enough Meanwhile, the settler expedition settled itself, in the Northwestern jungles.Unfortunately, there was a American Scout ruining the picture...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_171.JPG
"About time!" King Gilgamesh said to himself..."I'd thought Iron Working would never get done!"
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_18.JPG
When King Gilgamesh heard about the fact that they were researching Mathematics, he remembered reading from a book somewhere, that upon learning Mathematics, they would learn also how to build rock-throwing thingies that can make us easily win battles.King Gilgamesh smiled, :) , "this was a great invention",he thought. When he noticed a big scroll on the floor, he opened it and saw it was huge, and it had some things circled.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_20.JPG
Very fascinating...:hmm: Iron, the incense will be connected soon enough, the settler is headed towards the coast.*yawn* "Better get to bed, too tired to do any more inspecting and commanding.:D"
Ansar Apr 17, 2006, 06:57 AM Also, the 4th Sumerian Settlement was on its way::)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_19.JPG
Had to put this image separate because of 12 images limit(which include smilies).
conquer_dude Apr 17, 2006, 07:40 AM Yeah I see. I hate the image limit. Well, great update. :goodjob:
stocktracker Apr 17, 2006, 08:29 AM You seem to be doing a good job at choking off the Hittites, but what about the Americans and the Portuguese? It looks like the Americans will secure all of the land to the south.
Ansar Apr 17, 2006, 06:09 PM The portuguese are trapped in a jungle, while the Americans will probably have the land down under because my first target will be the Hitties.
Ansar Apr 18, 2006, 04:14 PM As the year of the fight grew closer, King Gilgamesh got more and more nervous, only 900 more years till fighting...King Gilgamesh also heard the other civilizations liked to raze cities after the captured them. This scared King Gilgamesh, he would not want his empire to crumble, but it had to happen. As King Gilgamesh was thinking about this, Pablo came in with interesting news...
Pablo- http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_21.JPG
Gilgamesh- :hmm: Why would they be building the Colosssus at a time like this?
Pablo- Sir, its the AS, you never know what they do.
Gilgamesh- Quite right, Pablo, well, thanks for the news. Very akward those Hitties..
Pablo- Yes sir, very akward.
Finally in 1750 BC, the 4th Sumerian Settlement was built, and King Gilgamesh heard of stories of once you have four cities, its only time untill you will build an Army.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_22.JPG
After the Western Expedition crew had been kicked out of Portugal, they decided it was time to come back home, but this time, not to Ur, but to Sumer, to defend it because like King Gilgamesh, the expedition crew had heard, "the year is coming". King Gilgamesh almost choked on his banana when he saw the updated map.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_23.JPG
He examined the map and then sent it to the war room for further details, and then he made his own map of the situation, and what to do about it...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_24.JPG
"This map will go to the settler camp", King Gilgamesh said, this plan will definetily cut off the Americans from further settling north of their lands. Dear Lord!, Abraham demanded Iron Working, will this be it?
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_25.JPG
And so...it has begun...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Sumerian_Tale_26.JPG
Will the sumerian empire hang in the balance?!
conquer_dude Apr 18, 2006, 04:33 PM Uh, yeah your gonna kcik Abe's butt. Might want to think about signing allience though, wilst you are building up for the hitties.
Ansar Apr 18, 2006, 05:19 PM I may actually sign peace before any fighting occurs...
And do the war later on...
Tribute Apr 18, 2006, 05:33 PM No golden age in despotism! Make peace soon! + you're in expansion mode, not war mode.

1st "ring" cities - you can use CxxxC but you dotted some that are plain wrong.
some are CxxxxxxC, some not near fresh water, some not on hills to impale your AI.
post a save, so i can comment more?
otherwise, deals are nice, and setup looks nice.
i would, probably, have built more troops, but thats just my defender type game talking.
