View Full Version : New PitBoss Game?

Hi,
I can host a dedicated PitBoss server, and all the players have up to 24 hours to have their turn (but turns are concurrent). You can log in at anytime, check things out and make your move. If you don't log in then you pass your turn. That's pretty much it. As soon as everyone makes their turn, the 24 hour period ticks over, so if everyone was on you could play for a while without having to wait the whole time.

Please post to join, and your preferred civ. Want to have at least 8 players, once we have enough I'll post the rest of the details. Once the game has started, you can use Alt-D and enter your email address to be emailed when the turns are over.

Still considering what map to play.

Interested players/civilization (refer to http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/info/civilizations/ to help you choose)
adammm81 - Mansa Musa
nathan_g - Tokugawa
Pacifist - Ghandi
Moose3570 - Asoka
sometemple - Catherine - email: yes
Dandridge - Elizabeth - email: yes
portuga - Washington - email: yes
J_Rocket76 - Huyana Capa - email: yes
Traxis - Mao Zedong

Edit: Game on! Here are the rules -

5 days without any action will get you kicked from the game. Feel free to let me know, or post here if you plan to be away for a few days.

All players need to put a password on their Civ once you pick your civ as above. Once ingame, use Alt-D and enter your email address to receive notification on turns etc.

Map is fractal, Turn Timer Quick, 24 hours max per turn, simultaneous turns. Sea Level medium, Map Standard. All other options are default.

All disputes etc are resolved by me and will be final, but open to discussion on anything (majority rules will usually apply).

Anyone interested in joining the game incase we have any dropouts, please let me know and I'll put you down as a reserve!

In the event of any downtime, I'll try to make it as fair as possible. Pitboss doesn't have many options in it - I'll save it on a daily basis.

PS > you have all been contacted in some way with IP/password. Please email me or PM me here if you haven't, or have any issues.

i'd like to play catherine if she's available... no preference on the map type (although i'd love it if it were no larger than standard?)

ummm... i could be wrong about this, but isn't there a bug that messes pitboss up when folks use ALT-D to set their passwords and such? Also... is this game using the most recent patch?

This is v1.61 with the proper release of PitBoss, not the Beta. Is there a known bug with alt-d in that?

Just did test with GaintGuineaPig and Alt-D worked. Should be great fun, would like to get everyone on the server at once for a while though. get the first coulple of turns out of the way quickly.

Everyone think we could do that?

With so many players from diferent time zones, it may be dificult.

But perhaps everyone could commit to playing the first turns as soon as possible ... And always connect to the server and end their turn even if there's nothing to do, instead of letting the timer reach the limit.

i'm glad to hear alt-d is working. i'm about to host a game myself, and had been informed otherwise.

Any idea when this game is going to get under way?

Only have 3 players to go. If possible, can we see if everyone's available in around 24 hours? lets say 7pm Adelaide (Australia) time, which is GMT + 9:30, or in 20 mins after the stamp time of this post (it's 6:40pm here now). Bit of a long shot I guess, but can anyone not make that at all, or can it be changed a few hours? People work etc so I don't expect anything :)

On Melbourne time, across the border, so half an hour in front. So OK by me.

ummm... that'd be 5am here. it's not likely you're gonna see me that early. add 3 hours to that and i'm game, but i'm sure that'll mess somebody else up :)

if you guys are interested, I can set us up a private forum on my server to help us keep this thing organized (multiple threads for one, would be fantastic). I could give you admin privelages, giantguineapig. Let me know if you're interested.

Everyone seems to have taken their civs, but has portuga forgotten to press the end turn button? Turn won't end until everyone has pressed the red button or the timer has ticked 24 hours.:scan:

sometemple
Apr 18, 2006, 03:34 PM
i can email him... but how do you know Portuga has taken a turn? I know he posted in the forums, but could have easily been from work or somewhere that isn't Civ friendly. If the turn timer runs all the way out today we'll get to the bottom of things tomorrow, no?

portuga

Yup. I forgot to end my turn... Sorry.
Turn 2 has just begun.

GiantGuineaPig
Apr 18, 2006, 09:15 PM
there should be an * next to their name if they've ended their term. OK so can anyonne not do 10pm Adelaide, Australia +9:30 GMT ? How does that work for you Traxis? If not maybe we can do an hour or two later?

netbjarne sorry you've just missed the boat, but if anyone drops out or decides not to play etc you're quite welcome to take over?

Traxis
Apr 18, 2006, 09:25 PM
10pm Adelaide time is 5:30 AM here, so an hour or two later would be ideal. 5 hours earlier would be okay, too.

Guys I'm sorry about this, but I tried to save the game and well it didn't like it. For some reason it saved a 1k file, froze and crashed. So i've had to load the original save. This means we're still on the first turn, but it's the same map. I'll save this more regularly (i.e. morning and night) and hope this doesn't happen again. At worst if there are any further issues, I'll move it to my main gaming PC instead of the file server.

sometemple
Apr 19, 2006, 06:21 AM
No problem... As long as we only lost a turn or so, I'm not worried about it.

I do have a request though. Could everybody start converting all posted times to GMT? I.E. this message was written at 3:19am GMT. I think our chances of getting everybody together would be a lot greater if everyone were on the same page.

GiantGuineaPig

no it doesn't seem to be working. I don't know why - I don't get any errors or anything, but then again PitBoss isn't very configurable. I've entered all the email info into the server. Does anyone know if there's another port that is required to be forwarded to let PitBoss email?

sometemple
Apr 20, 2006, 05:33 PM
no other ports that I've heard anyone talk about. There is a 3rd party program that I'm using in a PitBoss game I'm hosting (in which I can't get the built in email to work either). The game hasn't started yet, but all of our tests have gone off without a hitch. It simply scans the text in the PitBoss window and emails everyone when the year changes.

here's a link to the thread: -----> LINK (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=157555)

There are some settings in the CivilizationIV.ini file that refer to Pitboss reminder emails. Maybe they have to be filled?

Hi guys,
Currently trying to get into the server and getting a message moose is refusing connection, he may need to set his firewall correctly.
You need to open port 2056 (this port is listed in you civ4.ini file) if you wish to connect with others on the pitboss game otherwise you will block other people from joining while you're logged in (Civ4 is peer to peer bases, even the pitboss).

GiantGuineaPig

 I have the same problem. GGP has probably been playing again :crazyeye:

GGP can you post the port this game is on, maybe will will have to connect to that now you have 2 games. But I didn't have to when we tested it, or for my first go.:crazyeye:

guess we will have to keep waiting for the all wise GGP to fix it :king: GGP

nah sorry the IP of the PC changed, so the standard port 2056 wasn't forwarding. I've changed it back, and now can connect so you will all be fine. Apologies for this one, shouldn't happen again (IP now static!).

You shouldn't even need to use the port!

Uh you will now - for some reason it lost your email addy. One of the many issues I have, is that on the first game if i minimize pbnotify it crashes because the game name is too long.

I've just bought another p4 box so I'll be moving stuff over to that as a civ4 server, I'll try to fix a few things on the way.

How many are still playing this game. I have tried to add everyone to CIVStats.com However it is hard when not everyone has posted a message in here and some have changed their names and the names of their civs in game.

For those i have not added (you can tell because I have not sent you a PM nor can you register your leader) please PM me and i will add you.

If it is only GGP Dandridge and myself still playing, Maybe we should scrap the game.

Thoughts anyone
