Are there any mods in existance that allow you to customize the number of players in a size of map.

I like playing smaller maps with lots of players, the only problem is they're too quick and limited to only 2-4 civs...

If not it would be great if one could be made. Perhaps in the form of a perma change to CiV so it works with all Mods. :old:

You can do this in the standard game just use the Custom Game options. After you set the map size it sets up the usual number of AI players but you can keep adding more to the list (up to a maximum of 16 I think).

The custom map option allows up to 18 civs with any size- I've played duel maps with 18 civs before.
This won't work if you press 'Play Now'
Open the closed slots for more AI players.
