View Full Version : Submarine Carrier Unit
Rrakkiss Apr 19, 2006, 07:55 PM This is my first unit, a submarine carrier type unit.
The basic AttackA is launching planes to attack enemy, I will probably try to update a submerged torp firing flic for AttackB and add a fort flc too.
Zip file is just the .flc files currently, so will need to edit existing ini file for a unit to replace and use them.

Goldflash Apr 20, 2006, 10:21 PM The death is a bit... odd...
Bjornlo Apr 21, 2006, 12:39 AM Very good 1st unit.
I would suggest that if you do another unit, you could use RED as the civ color and there by use blue (or better blue-green) as the water color. You could then have it sink into the depths. The simple way to do that would be to have the unit color shift towards your selected color over a series of frames and get a little smaller at the same time.
Your bubbles work, but look a little like smoke. Having it twist as it sinks is good; but, during the current death, the submarine parts sink unequally and it breaks up too much. The propellor and other bits sink at one rate while the hull spins and sinks at a different one.
Halidon55 Apr 21, 2006, 07:10 AM Very nice work, any plans on a PT boat with torpedoes?

Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
;)
Wyrmshadow Apr 22, 2006, 08:15 PM That's a misnomer. Torpedoes=Mines
It was a while before someone invented the self propelled torpedoe.
About the unit. Except for the wild death's last few frames you have a good start. Practice a bit more with the effects of your program. Then try a few new angles that match the many already made units.. Next try size. I know your thinking that you need to have it large to show detail, but not always. It will look ungainly in the game with its sheer mass. Then just practice practice practice with all aspects of unit making.. from modeling/animating to pallete effects. For myself.. I had been using Bryce for 5 years before I attempted my 1st unit in Jan 2002 and it was heinous, large and utter crap. I practice (A LOT) and got a little better at it.
Khai Apr 23, 2006, 02:32 PM Its not a 'misnomer'...its exactly what he said. Back in the Civil War and at the Battle of Mobile Bay, torpodoes were synomous with mines.
