This is inspired by troglodytic cities in Cappadocia ( central Turkey ). This city is special because it doesn't get larger. It just digs more and more caves in hills.

These cities won the April 2006 PCX contest !

Kyriakos Apr 23, 2006, 08:26 AM This is very nice Maisse :)
Kyriakos Apr 23, 2006, 01:58 PM How did you make the set?
MaisseArsouye Apr 23, 2006, 02:02 PM I made this with Blender.
The Last Conformist Apr 24, 2006, 11:09 AM Nice work. :goodjob: Quite original indeed.
I just wonder - are the real-world inspiration really refered to as "troglodytic"? The word usually has unkind connotations in English.
MaisseArsouye Apr 24, 2006, 01:17 PM Actually, the french word "troglodyte" has no negative connotation. I just translated it and didn't though further.
The Last Conformist Apr 24, 2006, 01:34 PM Here's the AHD defintion:
1a. A member of a fabulous or prehistoric race of people that lived in caves, dens, or holes. b. A person considered to be reclusive, reactionary, out of date, or brutish. 2a. An anthropoid ape, such as a gorilla or chimpanzee. b. An animal that lives underground, as an ant or a worm.
Of course, a form of the word also occurs in the scientific name of the chimp: Pan troglodytes.
beboy Apr 24, 2006, 08:40 PM Whoa! C'est vraiment cool!! :p
William GBTW Apr 24, 2006, 08:45 PM This William GBTW's wife...I just want to say this is great for my Pre historic mod.

William GBTW Apr 25, 2006, 06:29 AM    I'm not married...I just was pulling your leg   wish I was married thoguh.
Goldflash Apr 25, 2006, 12:22 PM You're not funny, William.
Anyway, this set is real neat.
Plotinus Apr 29, 2006, 08:07 PM Very nice.
And yes, these Cappadocians are normally referred to as "troglodytes". Makes me think of the D&D monster of that name, but still. It just means someone who lives in a cave.
7ronin Apr 30, 2006, 02:59 PM Very nice. Very unusual. Very original.
Abaddon May 04, 2006, 05:46 AM Wicked stuff!
Rambuchan May 04, 2006, 06:00 AM I'm loving these cities you're knocking out Maisse. Great work. :hatsoff:
"troglodytes" was the name my mates and I used when referring to ugly girls back in school (along with a whole load of others). Shameful, but true.
MaisseArsouye May 04, 2006, 08:34 AM Thanks for your comments. I hope they win the pcx challenge.
Huayna Capac357 Jan 31, 2009, 02:58 PM The link no longer works. If someone had these, could they reupload them or attach them to the post?
RedAlert Jan 31, 2009, 10:10 PM Oh no! :(
I hope Maisse's other stuff is still downloadable....
againsttheflow Feb 02, 2009, 12:02 AM I too would appreciate a reupload. I haven't seen it yet but if it won an award it must be good...
Gojira54 Jan 27, 2010, 08:15 AM Does anyone have a copy of this?
Blue Monkey Jan 27, 2010, 12:07 PM you might try a PM to Ozy. He seems to have a lot of things that were lost in the hack attack.

:shake:
I hang my head in shame.
Somehow, I missed this one, although I DO have the following city sets of his:
African
Both of his European sets
Crete
Flanders
Japan
Mars (!)
"New" European (with RedAlert)
Polynesian
Sahara
C'est La Guerre,
Oz
Blue Monkey Jan 30, 2010, 02:00 PM postemallorgimmepm!
Huayna Capac357 Jan 30, 2010, 02:29 PM Most of those still work though. For example, I have gotten his African set, his Flanders set, his Polynesia set, etc., to work.
Balthasar Jan 30, 2010, 02:55 PM Hmmm...what do the "mars" cities look like?
Ozymandias Jan 30, 2010, 03:11 PM Hmmm...what do the "mars" cities look like?
Like this:
Balthasar Jan 30, 2010, 05:18 PM Thanks Oz. Not what I was looking for, but very well done nonetheless. On topic, the term "troglodytic" is unfortunate. I'm familiar with Cappadocia and their remarkable underground cities, and see no reason why the term "Cappadocian Cities" wouldn't have sufficed....
Grandraem Jan 31, 2010, 08:49 AM I was searching through my archives and found a folder in my cities one called "troglo-ma".
Is this the right one?
Grandraem Jan 31, 2010, 08:55 AM Here's a preview pic.
By the way, I looked at the files in the zip, and although they're .pcx, they're not in the correct colour format. That would need to be changed.
edit: If that is the right file, then a big sorry to the people that requested this a year ago. I should have looked back then. :( Sorry about that.
Pounder Jan 31, 2010, 10:41 AM Here's a preview pic.

Here are a couple sets that I recoloured from the post Grandraem made.
One a straight recolour and the second set with vegetation posts and wells added.
I'll also put this is my miscellaneous graphics thread.
Ozymandias Jan 31, 2010, 11:36 AM @Grandraem - Good find. Maisse usually named his city files ending in "-ma".
@Pounder - Nice work :thumbsup:
Best,
Oz
Kyriakos Jan 31, 2010, 11:40 AM Good work, Pounder, i think you have improved Maisse's originals.
Too bad Maisse is not here anymore..
Pounder Feb 01, 2010, 05:31 AM There was a request to make these into working sets.
I am posting MaisseArsouye's work with a couple of recoloured sets.
Three sets:
Original Restored
Re-Coloured (v1)
Re-Coloured (with vegetation etc..)
Grandraem Feb 01, 2010, 08:55 AM Looks great, Pounder! Nice of you to do that.:goodjob:
General 666 Feb 01, 2010, 01:37 PM A BIG ,BIG ,BIG THANKS !!!:dance::banana:
I have searched for these files even before someone has bumped this thread.
So a really big thanks to Grandraem for bringing this back to the forum !
Another thanks to Pounder for the variations.
RedAlert Feb 01, 2010, 05:36 PM Thanks Grandraem and Pounder! It's nice to see MaisseArsouye's work preserved, and the new versions are beautiful. :)
