SGOTM 10 - England vs the Barbarians.

The Civ3 Barbarians have looked with envious eyes on their Civ4 cousins who have been granted new powers to build cities, research techs and build wonders.. so they have decided to do the same. You, in the guise of Elizabeth of England (currently celebrating your 80th birthday), will take up the challenge of cutting them back down to size.

This game will be played in Civ3 Conquests only, by as many teams as we can muster. The winner will be the team that destroys the barbarian nation by the earliest game date. All victory conditions are enabled.

The information required to place you in a suitable team is as follows:-

1. Which level (regent, monarch, etc.) are you comfortable playing in a solo game?
2. Are you new to SGOTM?
3. Do you have any preferences as to which team you join?

The game will start on May 7. Thanks again to Gyathaar for the concept and map.

Map Parameters
Playable Civ - England
Opponents - Six: Mayans, Byzantines, Dutch, Inca, Sumerians, Barbarians.
World size - Standard
Difficulty - Emperor
Landform - Mystery
Barbarians - Non-standard :eek:

The map is handbuilt, and therefore may not have a standard configuration.

Game mods:
The game uses the default rules as defined in the SGOTM Reference Thread, with the following modifications:

- Galleys can never enter ocean tiles.
- There are some unusual advanced/modified Barbarian units.
- The Barbarians have research capabilities, and can build cities and wonders.

The SGOTM Mediterranean resources are included, as you can see from the starting screenshot. If you have played SGOTM 9 then you will be ready. Other players may need to download and unzip a small graphics mod pack linked in the Reference thread.

Kind of... You can see their stats there, but I used text descriptions of other units so you would not have to download a special mod just for that.

They are basically another civ with special abilities (units, buildings, government,tech)

I'll be publishing a draft set of teams shortly to reduce confusion and to provide a starting point for finalising arrangements. You'll all need to focus on (a) whether the team structures are as you wish and (b) your final team name. The team names will be engraved into the start files, so don't even think about trying to persuade me to change them once we start the game.

I am only aware of my expression "new to the competition" in the context of Wotan's team, and unless you've changed your nickname, I believe that applies to you. However, as I indicated in my post, if you are not happy with my team allocations, please suggest an alternative arrangement, or at least state your preferences.

While you are there, you might also want to read the rest of that post, plus the referenced threads, where you can find details of the setup procedure, and the rules and procedures for the competition.

I suspect the "amp;" was a sort of violent typo, but I like it. We're undergoing team PM discussions right now, so I'll confirm the team name shortly.

is the HTML code for '&' - the ampersand symbol, because '&' is used as a prefix for lots of special symbols, so it has to be a special symbol itself if you want to display it on a web page. I've no idea how you managed to get it into your post, but there you go.

@sanabas: I've amended the team list to reflect your full name. However, in the interests of web page width, your team name will be abbreviated to Fuzzy Wuzzy in the results listings and in your save file.

Since I am the Fuzzy-Wuzzy one, is this a push to make me skipper?

Hackng the saves would be the easy bit, and would change nothing. You'd also have to hack the MySQL database that handles the saves, and another one, on a different server, that manages the forum. I'd suggest that persuading me might be an easier option, though you don't know my price yet :p .

Maybe it's just me that is too easily shaken, but you sound convincing, for now :p And anyways a grad student's financial means aren't quite to par with your price, IIRC - thinking about DJMGator talking about a corvette or something along those lines. So these dogs will call off the barking :lol:

@Cron: Thanks for signing up. I suggest we put you in Team tao, unless anyone has a better idea? New signups from uncommitted players from now on will be distributed among the existing teams, as I doubt if we'll get enough to make a complete new team.Has Cron been added to team tao? I can't find him in the submissions list.

1. Have you read any of the team threads? If so you have spoiler information that could restrict the teams you can join.

2. If not then I'll check with the team leaders and see if anyone can use an extra player.

3. I haven't the foggiest who are c3p ladder players, so you'll have to check the team lists on the Progress and Results page and tell me which teams qualify under that rule.

If unspoiled, i could use someone to take my turns in the next 3 weeks since my laptop had a major crash.
i also have mid year exams, work experience and a school program that involves me going into the city for the week in the next 3 weeks.

1) I usually play solo at the Diety level.
2) I'm brand new to SGOTM, though I've played a few of the GOTM games.
3) I'd like to play on my own, rather than on a team. Is that OK?

This SGOTM started two months ago, and is coming to an end. it is a competition between registered teams of players. Anyone is free to download a starting save and play it privately, but you can't start an official team for this event now, you must on no account upload your saved files to the SGOTM server, and you must not communicate with any unfinished competing team about the game.

We'll be starting up a new Civ3 game in the next few weeks, after we get the new Civ4 SGOTM under way. Why not join a team for one of those two events?

If you just want to replay this game as a single player game then go to the Progress and Results Page (http://gotm.civfanatics.net/submit/civ4sgotm_submission_list.php?game=50001&format=sgotm_saves_list.php&submit=Refresh#format). Click on any team start save in the table to download it, and then load the save in Conquests and play. You also need the SGOTM mod - a small file that adds some resources to the game. Find a link in the SGOTM Reference thread in this forum.

If you want to join in as a member of a team it's too late to do so for this game, but we'll be starting a new game in the next few weeks, so watch this forum for a sign-up thread for SGOTM 11.
