View Full Version : A tip before you download Patch

If you dream of victory at Top 4 levels, the new patch makes it much harder and makes it almost impossible at the deity level. The new patch fixed a bug, which has been providing me with a significant advantage over AI.
Here is the bug: AI will agree to give you all his technologies for peace. Here is the trick; declare a war with AI and do nothing. At the end of 10 turns, grab all AI technology. Here is the execution:
(1) select all his tech;
(2) click the first line, he will say no;
(3) click the second line, he will agree.
In one of my Monarch game, I had this message:
“You have declared war on us: -27”
I have tried this in each of the top 4 levels and my technology is always up to date.
The new patch has only three lines. This bug is history, and I am going to be 10 tech behind! Also, chopping only provides 15 gold now.
Oggums May 01, 2006, 06:03 PM So what's the tip?
Don't patch it, if you want to exploit the old game bug?
Aegis May 01, 2006, 06:07 PM Why bother playing the higher levels if all you do is use a loophole?

Have tour there first then, then patch it.

A Paradox indeed, I want get there; I do not want to work!
No, I mean even with all the loopholes (Moonsinger loophole is the first, any other?), the top 2 levels are very hard, especially the top one level. Put the technologies aside, you must survive, and eventually build a large force, which is a challenge. It is still a hard game.
For those who love nukes, nukes never work at high level.
Oggums May 01, 2006, 06:38 PM You can still get the exact same effect by going into the world builder and just giving yourself the techs. Problem solved. You win at Diety.
Codeman May 01, 2006, 07:25 PM i guess all good things must come to an end eventually. we either adapt or die...
Smak May 01, 2006, 09:32 PM For those who love nukes, nukes never work at high level.
Nukes work fine, you just need a large tech and population advantage. Even if they catch up in tech, if you control all the uranium they cant make any nukes. Or if you cant control all the resource then build the sdi defense and some shelters in your 18+ pop cities.
I find nukes to be very effective at annihilating enemy civs population and turrain. They can take a size 10 city down to size 5 easily, and lay down fallout on 3-5 nearby tiles making it impossible to grow back to size 10 again.
Also if you are nuking enemy cities its gonna be very hard for him to have the infrastructure to build his own to fight back.
I do have an idea about nukes though...
They should add a tactical nuke that only hits one tile, kills 80% less population of a city, kills one unit completely and maybe 10% barrage effect, eliminates all of that cities defenses (or close to), and can be used on your own cultural turrain defensively but with a civ wide unhappiness modifier similar to slavery but possibly longer effect or until you clean it up.
Smak May 01, 2006, 09:38 PM Another idea for nukes, add a wonder called MIRV to combat sdi (possibly require 2-3 or more sources of uranium). Basically makes one super nuke that will automatically split up and try to strike the top 5 population cities of your selected enemy civ. SDI has a good chance to block a nuke, but it cant protect against 5 nukes.
It would be cool if some wonders or units required multiple sources of the same resource. Like more than 1 iron to make ironworks ect.
JesusOnEez May 02, 2006, 02:37 AM I think all cv was trying to say was, "Before you patch, have a look at this bug...it's cool." I don't think he was saying, "Don't patch! You'll lose the ability to cheat."
cv431410 May 02, 2006, 10:46 AM Well, above certain level, AI shoots down every nuke of mine without exception. I even tried to shoot 5 nukes to one city, and all of them are destroyed. I give up nuke strategy at higher levels. Maybe I need to learn how to launch them succefully, so far, no luck for me.
JesusOnEez : Thanks.
ainwood May 02, 2006, 03:11 PM Moved to strategy & Tips - its not really a suitable strategy article.
