When I build a new city it sometimes takes a long time to start growing to where all the extra bread that im getting appears in the production bar. I have not yet figured out why this happens.
And I also want to mention this is my first civ game and i love it although i have been learning everything on noble and its still kinda hard i like it.
So if you guys could please help out a n00b I would appreciate it.

Extra food doesn't appear in the production bar under normal circumstances (it contributes to the growth bar).
Only when producing a worker or a settler does excess food shift to production.

Whenever you build a settler or a worker, all your production (hammers) as well as excess food (bread) are used to build it. As the excess food is what advances the city's growth bar this means that your city cannot grow while building settlers or workers.
"Excess food" is any food that remains after supporting the city population (2 food per pop) and after substracting the city's sickness.

Look at the 'Stories and Tales' Thread. You will see lots of games to read about there.

You could always jump to the 'examine city' screen and move all the citizen circles to tiles with abundant food. The when you get machinary you can build windmills and stuff to get a little extra out of those tiles with competeing goods in the same tile.
