With the new patch, chopping has lost a lot of its power; furthermore, every 2 forests adds one health to your capital, which is a factor in the long term. Expansive civilizations, especially, can ignore the health factor and clear-cut.

Assuming we can clear-cut all the forests, or we have a sufficiently large number of forests that chopping won't stop until we're done, I think the order would be the same as it was before the patch- with such a start, I would go worker-choppedworker-chopped settler, possibly with a warrior or scout thrown in there.

However, assuming a typical start, you really have to consider what you're going to do with those forests- with the right research order, you could get to Mathematics and bring the yield up to 30 around the time you're working on the pyramids, a strategy I used to my great benefit in my current game.

My general feel from my limited amount of post-patch play is that between 1 and 3 early chops is probably all you should use- unless you're playing a multiplayer game or are interested only in short-term gains, in which case go with Oggums' strategy.

I don't actually chop much, usually only one or two tiles in order to help along a settler. But I don't chop anything if I'm not going to have health resources and it will cripple growth sooner than happiness. I definitely put down more farms now for natural settler production.

I used to chop chop all outside the border, chop another worker first, a couple settlers and maybe stonehenge, but that's definitely not worth it any more. The way I chop inside the border at my capital has not changed, however.

Chop is random these days, correct? I have seen 10, 13, and 15 gold.

It decreases the further you get outside your border.

cv431410,

I am about to write a deity article on huge/terra with quechua rush. Here is the best you can do at deity level. I am still playing the game, but I got an almost perfect start and can even fight up the AI on the tech scale on deity.

10. Regenerate map until you find a really good city that is going to allow you get quechua's in 8-10 turns with 1 population! If you feel necessary, settle your first city on gold, silver, stone, marble just to get the extra +1 shield bonus!

9. Barracks first!!!!!! Upgrade cover.

8. Your inital quechua captures first worker! You station your quechua where you captured your first worker.

7. Your 2nd quechua is out and heading to meet the inital one. If necessary send a 3rd one.

6. 2-3 quechua's kill 2 archers inside city. You get your first city !! :D

5. 2 more quechuas from your capital capture another city. You get 2 more workers. That civilization is wiped out. War weariness is gone!

4. Capture 2 more cities. A few more workers arrive. Once you have 5 cities, you can't expand anymore due to upkeep costs. Stop and rebuild cottages.

3. CHOP ONLY ONCE YOU HAVE RESEARCHED MATHEMATICS and ONLY FOR COURTHOUSES. COURTHOUSE IS A MUST!!! You need it fast or you can't expand.

2. DO NOT BUILD A SINGLE WORKER!!!

1. DO NOT BUILD A SINGLE SETTLER!!!

Good luck on deity, :D

.

Dream on.

With the cover promotion (which he advocated a few lines up), this isn't out of the realm of possibility, unless they're archers on a hill. Is it?

Opps, I forgot to add.

somewhere between point 5 and 6:
Don't attack archers on hills :D If you gonna attack, bring 4 quechuas per base. I assume each city is protected by 2 archers.

Thank you remowilliams :D

My article is out on the strategy forums.

BTW, I am sorry I mislead you here, because looking at my saves, I realized I did not build the barracks only after the 4th quechua.

I captured the city with 3 quechuas, details are in my article. Most importantly, IT WORKS ON DEITY. so I think quechua rush is best tactic.

I am inexperienced with the file upload/link system here :D Thank you for the help.

I tried to load a .jpg image to my article, but I can't see the picture. Do you have any idea where things went wrong? I uploaded the file on rapidshare and gave the link, but the photo does not show up.:king:

Your link doesn't work for me. Looks like you need a password to view/get files with that website?

You can upload files to civfanatics servers and they will be seen. Just click on "manage attachments" and you'll have a link attached to your post, although I"m not sure about adding thumbnails and images in the actual text.
