I saw a Great Artist walking around my territory (Open Borders agreement), and was wondering if you could capture a GP and subjugate them, like workers, or if you just destroyed them? Also, the same question, but about settlers. It seems that when they are in cities that I take, they all become workers. Is this true if you capture them in the open?

They get killed, slaughtered mercilessly.

I once was in a situation where I saw a Great Artist wandering through my newly conquered territory, to beef up a neighboring city in a manner that would seriouslt jeopordize my hold on the area, so I cancelled open-borders with that AI, and got the GA trapped in a little neutral pocket between cities, and after about 5 turns, the AI gave up and disbanded him.

Can't capture them, but you can kill them off, either by war or trickery.

I think you should be able to capture them, but oh well.. I guess you just kill them or trick them.

I killed Leonardo da Vinci once. He wouldn't tell me where the Priori Scion had hidden the... :)

No, seriously. I wish you could capture GP, but they just get killed off. There have been several times an AI had a Great Person in a city I was attacking. The GP have much better movement rates (especially in their own territory) than attacking forces and could easily outrun the attacking units. Still, every time this has happened, instead of moving the GP to safety the AI kept him holed up in a city that was clearly doomed. Upon taking out the last combat unit, I wound up with workers captured, but no GP. This has happened to me several times so I don't think it is ever possible to capture a GP.

Good question. I want to know that too.

i'm pretty sure they are lost:
easy way to try it is a test game where you (world builder is your friend) add super specialists, then lose the city, then capture it back.

I'm pretty sure the super specialists are lost...

In this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146740) thread, there was some discussion about what happened when one guy killed St. Peter.

Don't settlers turn into workers when they're captured? I seem to remember taking a city with a settler and 2 workers in it, but getting 3 captured workers. Maybe it was late...

I agree that you should be able to take GP and settlers. I also think you should be able to use captured ships in coastal cities, but that might be too powerful.
