Qwack Jun 29, 2006, 05:02 AM Your right pholk. I have hte internet on this crappy computer, but unfortunately this one is too crappy to run civ4, and theres no possible way I can transfer files from my other computer to this one since the cd-drive is messed up. I was thinking about burning a cd with the save files and trasferring it.
Bleh.
pholkhero Jun 29, 2006, 02:51 PM I'm just another one of his poor admirers :D  .
ohh, i thought, since he encouraged you to join, you were buds ~you DO sound like a crazed fanboy ~ do you do cosplay as Sulla
annnnnyway ~ i couldn't get the save from the server last night...apparently it was still broken. I'll try to play tonight, but then i'll be gone for a few days after that!

@ quack ~ just let us know when you're back in the fight!!
Rex Tyrannus Jun 29, 2006, 03:41 PM Guys, I feel like garbage, here. I'm sorry we're so short handed. I tried loading Civ on my son's computer, but all I see is black where terrain should be. I hope to be back soon though. Sorry for leaving you all in the lurch. Especially fan-boy Timmy.
Talamane Jun 29, 2006, 11:16 PM Server was down when i posted my romanus turns, so i burned up some of my attachment space.
Still no RB activation, btw. :(
·Imhotep· Jun 30, 2006, 05:08 AM Well, to be honest: Sullla's Civ IV Walkthrough finally got me to buying my Civ IV copy. If not for this one I'd might not be here or playing this game. Sullla encouraged me to join RB Civ later, but just because I asked him what the community was all about there. But I guess he encourages everyone to join the group so this is no sign of special affection.
@rex:
You are garbage. ;) :D (Ah, I couldn't stand the temptation of this one !) I don't blame you. The game was already gowing slow before your PC crashed, so I think we are all to blame. On my next turnset I'll play 20 turns to speed things up. Once everyone is back on track this should be getting a lot faster.

pholkhero Jun 30, 2006, 06:03 AM Well, more bad news.
I've attempted to play this twice already, but my Civ is running WAYYY too slowly ~ it's literally minutes btwn turns at this point. And i've got to start getting ready for work!
I installed the BM mod, and since i've uninstalled it, this is my result! BM indeed!! So, if you can play today Im, play but i suspect you're away for the weekend. If not, i'll have to try again tonight :(
·Imhotep· Jun 30, 2006, 07:32 AM @pholk:
I'll play later today. I'm at home for an unusual weekend...

that will be great! I'll slog through some turns later, too, but need to find my 2nd disc of Civ to reload the game!! I'm gonna have to borrow my bro's.

edit: hmmm...maybe i'll try to just re-run the patch installation?? it's worth a try ~
·Imhotep· Jun 30, 2006, 10:17 AM Got it, will play now...
·Imhotep· Jun 30, 2006, 10:55 AM Report follows in a few minutes...
·Imhotep· Jun 30, 2006, 11:12 AM I played 18 turns, and the most important message is:
Catherine is dead !!
It took 3 Maces and one Cat to trim the defense down to the height of our sturdy Swords, but finally they managed it. I took some screenies from the fall of the cities but I messed with my grafx program and so they got lost. I recovered the last five screenies I took though. Here they are:

I said yes because the haelth from the deer will help our cities...

During my turnset Guilds came in, and Gandhi asked for it offering Engineering and 180 Gold. As they were equal in beakers and Guilds no prereq for a wonder or anything else important I said yes, we need Engineering anyway. Other trades I tried but did not work out. Education is 1 turn away.

pholkhero Jun 30, 2006, 11:24 AM excellent work! :woohoo:
~ if you're on a roll, RB18 could use your talents :groucho:
let's also figure out what we should do next ~ what sort of strategy goals should we set? HC with Cavs and Grens??
that would be my thoughts ~ maybe FDR would be an opponent of ours if we went with the UN and used Cyrus and Gandhi?? I don't know...just some ideas to stimulate discussion.
pholkhero Jun 30, 2006, 02:52 PM i've got it. will be playing later today.
pholkhero Jun 30, 2006, 06:51 PM Okay, i played and everything seems to be working out for my Civ for now. I just went back to fullscreen mode and set graphics at low, so that'll work for now.
However, b/c of time this well be a quick exec summary.
Gandhi came by in 1334 and offers wheat for our sugar. I agree , i also trade him education since FDR discovered liberalism. WE get Theology, Music, his map and Gold. Arabia is the last civ. After Educ, Bank, i went for banking for the help w/$$, and then to Gunpowder.
Rostov: Forge>Caravel>something else, can't read my writing.
Yakusk: Theatre>Granary
Thebes: Grocer>Uni
We are also now in Serfdom, too, so that we can bring our cities to Fully Improved Status.
I MM'ed moscow to concentrate on the cottages and grow them, and turn that city into a Commerce POWERHOUSE! I trade maps with FDR, too. This lets Saladin contact us i think. He's annoyed with us but slightly below us in score. He could be our last target after HC as we move towards Diplo/Dom ~
Rex, a fair secretary, can now post our spoiler info in the thread. We are all now allowed to read the spoiler info as well.
I couldn't upload the save so rather then ya'll be w/o it for 4 days ~
Talamane Jun 30, 2006, 08:21 PM @pholk, what's the BM mod?
BTW, i will be away until after the 4th.
Qwack Jul 01, 2006, 06:01 AM Ok, I got it then. Ill have this played hopefully tonight, if not than tommorow.
·Imhotep· Jul 01, 2006, 06:47 AM Guys, we should get to Astronomy ASAP. Not only will Observatories boost our research, but it is quite a tedious thing to try launching a naval attack with galleys. Frigates and Galleons are necessary to bring our Grenadiers and Cavs (which is the goal short term as Rifling is a longer way) to HC. Maybe we can pull Gandhi or Cyrus into the war with HC, maybe FDR would also be willing to. We should try this out a few turns before we launch our attack in earnest.
·Imhotep·
Rex Tyrannus Jul 03, 2006, 08:05 AM Okay guys. Sorry I was out all weekend. A little redneck landscaping resulted in my neighbor having nine fewer trees and one fewer mailboxes. We came awefully close to having one fewer houses when a key rope snapped, but did indeed prove that you can take down a tree with a pick-up truck.
I'll read the other spoilers later today to get an idea of what they're reporting. I'll draft something to post soon enough, too. If anyone wants any input in the progress post, tough. This ain't a democracy. Queen's rules.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 03, 2006, 01:32 PM Okay, our spoiler report is up, if anyone cares.
·Imhotep· Jul 04, 2006, 03:38 AM Okay, our spoiler report is up, if anyone cares.
Well done, big guy ! :goodjob:  You really have a talent for humorous writing, as I did say earlier. Couldn't have done it better ! Heard something from HP already ? When are you back on stage ?
·Imhotep· (stupid dots included)
Rex Tyrannus Jul 04, 2006, 06:58 AM Heard something from HP already ?
As a matter of fact, yes. I just got an automated email confirming their receipt of my laptop and an estimated return date of the 13th. So much for 5-7 day turn-around. Oh well.
Talamane Jul 04, 2006, 10:36 PM @pholk

Talamane Jul 04, 2006, 10:39 PM About the RB forum:
Griselda did activate my account. Nice surprise after the 4th of July vacation. :)
omni_paul Jul 05, 2006, 01:58 AM Gentlemen, it is with hat in hand that I return to these forums having sorted out my RL duties and returned to the world of CIV4.
Any room for a veteran Queen's man in the team? Or shall I lurk for the time being?

Welcome back ! Good to have you on board again ! As a matter of fact you could grab the save and play, if you want... :D

pholkhero Jul 05, 2006, 07:35 AM :woohoo:
Glad to have you, Sir Omni!! Nice.
hope everything is as well as it can be or at least, getting better...
@ Quack ~ any turns??
@ Omni, if there's no turns in about 12 hours, you can grab it and go. You'll have to sort through some...uh...not spam exactly, but not turns for sure! to catch up, but, it's all yours!!
@ talamane, awesome, :goodjob: hope to see a report soon! :)
So, to ARMS! FOR THE QUEEN!!!
ps ~ nice write-up rex, but we need to move a little faster now. Strategy??
omni_paul Jul 05, 2006, 07:42 AM I've read the thread... and yeah, this has been tough going by the look of things.
I'll wait until the morn, and if there's no turns from the Qwacker, I'll jump in.
Good to be back :D
Rex Tyrannus Jul 05, 2006, 08:56 AM Welcome back, Mr. OP. I hope RL hasn't been too rough. Just in case, though, I'll be sure to limit my cracks about girlfriends, farm equipment, and Socceroos. Anything else is fair game, right?
Qwack Jul 05, 2006, 07:07 PM welcome back omni. All good in RL?
Ill have these played tonight.
omni_paul Jul 05, 2006, 07:20 PM Ah good, Qwack is in the house and playing his turns. If all ok with everyone else, I'll slip in to the rooster (sic) after him.
All is well again in RL, after much family turmoil followed by some travel with work, I'm back, have a shiny new uber-laptop which runs CIV so well it's almost a crime, and am keen to get back into the odd SG again. :)
pholkhero Jul 05, 2006, 08:03 PM Good to hear, Mr Shambles ~ that's French, eh? ;) [you have to imagine the accent mark; i'm no keyboarding wiz like Imhotep/Timon of Athens]
Updated Roster:
Quack: having them played tonight
Monsiguer Sham-bles: on deck
Talamane:
Imhotep:
Pholkhero: just played??
Rex: in the bullpen, itching to cut in line when possible ~
Qwack Jul 05, 2006, 08:40 PM Ok completed. Very boring turns.
Basic Summary: I switched to mercantalism and pacifism for the moment, until we get astromony foreign routes not playing much of a part. Once we get astronomy though we want to switch out of mercantalism. Ive also set up 2 scientists and a engineer in our hanging garden city, hopefully we will pop a engineer out of there.
Our luck sucks, with around 5% odds we pop a useless artist instead of a much more useful scientist from GP farm.
I see this and I think to myself "WTF"?
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/3230/civ4screenshot00276ba.th.jpg (http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot00276ba.jpg)
A fort??? :crazyeye: :crazyeye: This is honestly the first time I have seen that improvement in civ4 so far. I built a farm over it btw, since I didnt know what pholkhero was smoking when he built tha
Huayana's caravel still hanging around our GP farm instead of preventing us from working the fish tile. Stupid AI  .
Ive started the 2 epics and forbidden palace, we should prepare to attack huayana pretty soon with grenadiers. Ive set research to chemistry. Also sold backwards cyrus music for gold.
The save:
pholkhero Jul 05, 2006, 09:28 PM hmm...fort, eh ~ i was defending against the...uhh...moles.
i must've been a misclick, but ahh well. We had worker turns to spare ;)
·Imhotep· Jul 06, 2006, 03:53 AM @pholkster:
Moles eh ? I think you were searching for the Holy Grail and tried to defend against the Killer Rabbit :D ;) .
@Mr. Shambles:
Here we go, you're UP ! Does that feel good ? Enjoy your turns, you can play 10 or 20 at your leisure - 20 were better, we gotta speed that up...
·Imhotep·
·Imhotep· Jul 06, 2006, 10:34 AM Guys, I wanted to inform you that I'm away from home until July 23. I will step in right after that again. Nothing serious - only holidays with my girlfriend :D :) .
·Imhotep·
Rex Tyrannus Jul 06, 2006, 01:20 PM Nothing serious - only holidays with my girlfriend :D :)
We should compare notes. The holiday I had with your girlfriend was loads of fun. :p
·Imhotep· Jul 06, 2006, 01:55 PM We should compare notes. The holiday I had with your girlfriend was loads of fun. :p
[voice of Christopher Lee as Saruman]You are sure of this ?[/voice off]
I cannot imagine my girl having fun in the company of 280 lb of Gross Stupidity - see, she likes the intelligent and intellectual guys more than dumb nuts. Which brings me to the question: why on earth does she love me... :D :D ;)
Anyhow - see ya all on 24th.
·Imhotep·
P.S.: What would you guys think of an Queen's Men MP game some day ? Would be fun to play a 5 on 1 vs pholky pholkster :D ;) :p . No, serious. I think a 3 vs. 3 would be fun...
pholkhero Jul 06, 2006, 02:21 PM I would be okay with that, but we'd need to coordinate really well for times ;)
Rex Tyrannus Jul 06, 2006, 02:57 PM MP is tough for some of us old guys. You young fellers with time enough to write sopping wet romantic poetry can probably find three nights a week where you can commit to "that damned game". But an old married guy such as myself has the choice of asking his wife for permission to play a few minutes of civ after the kids go to bed or keeping his nads for yet another day.
In short, I'd love to, but would, in no way, be able to commit to regular play time.
·Imhotep· Jul 06, 2006, 03:23 PM @RT:
We could set up a quick speed game. Would take 2 or 3 hours then, I guess. Of course I understand you're under the sway of your wife, so no blame on you if you can't :D ;) . Anyway it would be difficult to find a time we all could play due to different time zones... Well, it was just an idea...
·Imhotep·, the wet romantic poet (stupid dots included)
pholkhero Jul 06, 2006, 03:59 PM "keep his nads another day" ?? ~ who are you kidding? we all know they're kept in a jar in your wife's night table, locked up safely ;) :)
plus, Rex has a vendatta against Gamespy and a grudge agaisnt MP ever since i roped him into a game on a too big map with a too long of time ~ quack...were you there for that too??
even if we couldn't ALL play, i would be in for some sort of MP, even if it was merely you and I, Imhotep, vs a couple AI
·Imhotep· Jul 06, 2006, 04:10 PM even if we couldn't ALL play, i would be in for some sort of MP, even if it was merely you and I, Imhotep, vs a couple AI
I've a lot of experience in coop games vs the AI up to Monarch level. I always enjoy these. What timezone yours is compared to GMT ?
On another note I'd like to ask all of you if you will buy the Warlords Expansion. I will do...
·Imhotep·
Rex Tyrannus Jul 06, 2006, 04:28 PM "keep his nads another day" ?? ~ who are you kidding? we all know they're kept in a jar in your wife's night table, locked up safely ;) :)
Nah, they're in the display case in the dining room. She likes to promenade them every time her mother comes over.
On another note I'd like to ask all of you if you will buy the Warlords Expansion. I will do...
I will buy it, once I'm back and running.
pholkhero Jul 06, 2006, 04:41 PM Nah, they're in the display case in the dining room. She likes to promenade them every time her mother comes over.nothing worse than a promenading broad :shakeshead:
@ Timon ~ i'm gmt + . . . uh . . . 4 i think, now that we're in daylight savings time. anyway, it's 5:47 PM now here on the east coast...i think you're plus 6 right? a weekend morning might work...oh, wait, you're gone every weekend! either that or a late night game for you, but i'm willing to try something.
i'm going to pick up the expansion, probably first day i think b/c i'm a nerd  ~ rex and I are cooking somethign up, too ;) but i can't say more for now :) Why, are you thinking AW Prince Pangea with Hannibal for the next Queen's Men assignment?
Qwack Jul 06, 2006, 04:50 PM Ive played a few games on multiplayer and its a load of fun. A team-play 3v3 usually takes 3-4 hours on quick with 100 turn limit.
We can do that someday if you guys want.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 06, 2006, 05:44 PM Imbicle to english translator:
"@ Timon ~ i'm gmt + . . . uh . . . 4 i think"
Pholk and I are five hours earlier than Greenwich, right now and LT is one hour ahead.
The UK is currently on British Summer Time while the American east coast is on Daylight Savings Time. So the UK is currently GMT +1 while we're currently GMT -4.
Munich is currently under CEST (Central Europe Summer Time), which is GMT +2. All told, LT is six hours ahead of us, but I have no idea if each country's respective "summer" time ends on the same day.
Edit: It's important to note that GMT is slowly losing favor to the more popular UTC (Universal Time Code, Unix Time Code, Zulu Time), which is (nearly) the exact same thing but with a more PC name. UTC is the international standard for banking and law and counts time in seconds. What's realy weird is that sometimes the last minute of a UTC day will contain 61 or 59 seconds because UTC and the Julian calendar don't always map together.

Your honor, I present the evidence:
i'm gmt + . . . uh . . . 4 i think, now that we're in daylight savings time. anyway, it's 5:47 PM now here on the east coast...i think you're plus 6 right?so, now that we're in DST, we're at - 4(my apologies for misnaming the direction, but it was implied in the latter part of my statement :worship: ) and he's 6 hours plus.
pholkhero Jul 07, 2006, 08:34 AM Omni ~ will you have a chance to grab it today/tonight?
Rex Tyrannus Jul 08, 2006, 07:51 AM Hey guys, I just wanted to make sure everyone saw that AlanH dropped an August 8 deadline on this game. (I know, I havent' played a turn in a while.)
Anyhow, this deadline really only applies to Laurel consideration. We'll still be able use this thread and post saves in the upload screen. However, I think we still want to finish on time as that will grant us participation in the spoiler events at the end.
Is there any reason we can't finish this in a month?
Pholk: normal
Qwack: intermittent computer problems?
Talamane: OOP through Sunday
Paul: back in the saddle?
Timmy: OOP through late July
Rex: OOP until the 13th
When I get back, it looks like I'll have this SG and maybe the Triadic game left. So I should be able to take part in a grab and play melee. We really ought to ditch the roster right now and whoever can play (at that moment) should say got-it and play.
Thoughts?
pholkhero Jul 08, 2006, 12:18 PM We really ought to ditch the roster right now and whoever can play (at that moment) should say got-it and play.Agreed Brother ~
with all the confusion at this point, just grab it and go ~ if someone can play this weekend, take it! I know Imhotep, Talamane and I are OoP this weekend, so we'll see what happens, but YES, let's get it done ASAP!!
Qwack Jul 08, 2006, 12:45 PM Im normal and can play, but I dont want to download my own save and playu it.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 10, 2006, 08:16 AM Yikes, no turns in four-and-a-half days? Perhaps we need a roll call, eh, Yer Majesty?
Name: Rex Tyrannus
Rank: Sgt. Maj. A--hole
Status: OOP until July 13th (or thereabouts), sir.
Talamane Jul 10, 2006, 11:42 AM I will play 20 this evening, if that is ok with everyone.
pholkhero Jul 10, 2006, 02:18 PM Talamane ~ PLEASE play 20!! :worship:
edit: im back in town
Talamane Jul 10, 2006, 06:14 PM Hmm, Qwack posted his turns on the thread, instead of the maintenance page.
Should i post it for him? I think i should. Anything to speed this along. Please help.
pholkhero Jul 10, 2006, 11:15 PM Hmm, Qwack posted his turns on the thread, instead of the maintenance page.

It might not've been working again but i don't know for sure.
if you haven't already, i would just play and then just post YOUR save to the page.
Talamane Jul 10, 2006, 11:16 PM Roger, roger. :goodjob:
pholkhero Jul 11, 2006, 08:58 PM turns??
Talamane Jul 11, 2006, 09:32 PM I played 30 turns. I have a small (very) army pounding on HC's most western city. I have only one galleon i am shuttling a coastal spot here:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads12/ArmyDropOff.jpg
Another galleon is on its way, and another is being built. HC has made no moves against my teeny tiny army (one gren, one knight, one cat), which i find very strange. I burned up a geek and the artist to get a golden age which speeded up a lot of builds and techs. We have another geek in the capital. We can use him as the situation warrants.
HC has a big stack of units in the city my caravel is "watching", but again, no moves on his part. Very, very strange.

pholkhero Jul 12, 2006, 07:23 AM Nice ~ way to go bringing the fight to HC :goodjob: do we have many other units coming up to the departure point or in production??

i thought he was back sooner than that, but ahh well...
i'm guessing Omni is since he hasn't posted since his return, but as w/all OoP players, he can hop back in when ready to go...

Rex Tyrannus Jul 12, 2006, 11:55 AM Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm supposed to have my computer back tomorrow. I'll get myself back in the rotation ASAP.
Qwack Jul 12, 2006, 12:03 PM ok ill have it played in 12-48 hours.
pholkhero Jul 12, 2006, 12:15 PM Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm supposed to have my computer back tomorrow. it was also 'supposed' to be 5-7 days they said, eh? I won't hold my breath  (not blushing, me holding my breath)
Qwack ~ that's fine :goodjob: as long as you're letting us know your status in 24 hours ;)
Rex Tyrannus Jul 12, 2006, 09:34 PM Well, I got tired of waiting, too. I went out and bought my brand new 20" iMac. As soon as I recover from eye-candy overload, I'll drop a Windows partition and dual-boot the MF. Civ 4 ETA: 24 hours.
Talamane Jul 12, 2006, 09:47 PM @pholk
There is a healthy sized stack waiting transport at that spot. The galleon has another three knights on their way. I wanted to use the QE2 to transport all of them at once, but it was unavailable. :p
pholkhero Jul 13, 2006, 07:17 AM Well, I got tired of waiting, too. I went out and bought my brand new 20" iMac. As soon as I recover from eye-candy overload, I'll drop a Windows partition and dual-boot the MF. Civ 4 ETA: 24 hours.
awesome! You can pick it up next, then ~
@ Talamane: sorry, I was vacationing in the caribbean and needed to borrow the ship for the weekend...mea culpa :)
pholkhero Jul 13, 2006, 12:54 PM so, with less than 4 weeks to finish up this game, i want to speed up the pace of it.
if you know you won't be able to play the game in about 24 hours of so, let us know so that we can have someone else pick it up and play.
I'm not sure how many turns we'll need to finish, but let's assume 150..or 160, that's divisible by 4 ~ so, 4 turnsets per week or so and we are F A R from that ~
I'll try to stay on top of the roster since it may become confusing and jumbled, but again, i'm all for Turns Played rather than Roster Perfection
quack is up now, and should have his turns within 24 hours or so. If not, i'm sorry, but Rex or I will pick it up ~ i want to get this over with and start on some AW Prince w/one of the new civs!
Quack: UP NOW
Rex: on deck?
Pholk:
Talamane:
OoP List:
Imhotep: until 2-something-th
Omni: gone and back again, and gone again, but welcome back again ~
Qwack Jul 13, 2006, 12:58 PM if someone else wnats to pick it up before me, be my guest, this will take me atleast 24 more hours, so ill just play after the next person plays.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 13, 2006, 03:44 PM I'll play tonight then. I'll need to remember how to play, first, though...
Edit: Anyone have any advice on where to take it? Sounds like we don't yet have the muscle to smite our eternal foe. Build us some boom sticks?
pholkhero Jul 13, 2006, 04:47 PM Huzzah! Movement in an SG!! ;)
from what Sir Talamane tells us, we have a sizable stack on our continent and a small force laying seige to Vilcabamba on HCs land. It's on! :hammer:
Rex Tyrannus Jul 13, 2006, 09:02 PM Playing now, BTW. Forgot to mention it earlier. 5 turns in. Vilcabamba is ours and holds our entire army. More to come later.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 13, 2006, 09:41 PM Played. I took us to 1610. I uploaded the save to the master computer and see that we're in a tight race for last. Perfect. No one will suspect us from here!
Anyhow, I'll do the write-up tomorrow. In the meantime, here's the auto-garbage:

Qwack Jul 14, 2006, 03:11 AM that we're in a tight race for last
The wooden spoon must be ours!
Rex Tyrannus Jul 14, 2006, 08:00 AM Okay, so it's been a while since I've played this game. It seems we've done some map trading. The whole world is known to us. Very cool. Let's look around and see the vitals...
I see Qwack's [edit: Talamane's] army on the wrong side of the straight of Incan Doom. No problem, he's got Straight of Incan Doom Ferry set up with a galleon/frigate pair. He's also got a few more of each that will arrive soon enough. Let's keep building more ships. Even if we have more than enough to get this army over quickly, the next war will need a landing force.
So anyway, I'll make my major effort this set to get a beachhead won on Vilcabamba (Para bailar la Bamba?) and have our army on the doorsteps of Tiwanaku. Can do.
Let's get the builds out of the way first, since there were a few.
Thebes built an observatory and a forge and is now working on a grenadier.
Memphis built a University and three grenadiers. Now making a fourth.
Elaphantine made us a galleon and a catapult, and is now taking night courses, working to complete his observatory in a few years.
Petrograd built a frigate and moved on to an observatory.
Rostov shat forth a galleon and is stewing up a frigate.
Alexandria has one hammer, and finally finished a granary. I set it to a work boat that we'll need to replace HC's fishing nets.
Vilcabamba (now out of resistance) is building a theater, as all the unhappy is starving it at size four.
Moscow completed a grocier and now struggles mightily toward a theater to smash the two red-shirts therein.
Novgorod done builded a harbor and now has designs for a catapult on the table.
That's it for builds.
On the war front, I took Vilcabamba in 1589 by suiciding a knight against a longbow. But a grenadier and another knight clean up the slops. All was after bombarding took defenses to 0%. Quickly thereafter, I shuttled our entire army into the city and have since moved out to heartland Inca. The main force, moved all the cats up to Corihuayrachina and have bombarded the defenses to 0. Next turn, the next guy can attack the two longbows guarding the city with knights, grennies, and cats. My other force was four grenadiers and two frigates that went scouting Tiwanaku, which is heavily defended. Recommend pillaging all the farms and bonuses, but leave the cottages. This is a conquest game after all.
On my first IBT, I lost a caravel I didn't know was pestering Incan lands. Sorry, I hope it was empty.
I didn't change civics, though a switch to nationhood should be soon. I didn't switch because we don't yet have riflemen. Once we do, let's find a high-pop town and drop the Globe Theater in it and field an army from our britches.
My major weed was in misusing our two Gr. Scientists. In 1586, Galileo was born in Heliopolis, but we already had a GS in Thebes. An academy might have been a good idea in Elephantine, but not a real good idea. The lightbulb for the GSs was Scientific Method. Together, they could lightbulb it in one turn. Looking at the tech screen, I thought I saw that only Gandhi had it, but after I burned the geeks, Roosey had it too. WTF? Anyhow, we're losing this tech race badly. The only way we're going to win is to throw millions of dumb kids at America and hope enough of them bludgeon their tanks a little. It won't be pretty.
Anyhow, so I researched Scientific Method, but we have no easily reachable oil. I also learned Nationalism and almost done with Replaceable Parts, so Pholk can get his testicles back. I recommend Rifling after that and a switch to nationhood.
Last thing, I traded cow to Sally for 6 GPT.
Have fun. Save is up on the score sheet.
pholkhero Jul 14, 2006, 08:23 AM :woohoo:
Rex is back, and :worship: my prayers are answered :worship: the SG is being played
i was thinking of Arabia next if possible. All we need to get to techwise is to Mass Media for the UN and make sure GW is our opponent. We'll have Gandhi locked up plus all our Russian, Incan and Arabian land ~ Diplo ~ 1750 :goodjob:

Rex Tyrannus Jul 14, 2006, 08:34 AM Don't the variant rules allow only for conquest? BRB, looking it up.
Edit:
This first SGOTM will not feature any advanced variant.. the winner simply will be the team that wins the game at the earliest game date with either domination or a diplomatic victory. All victory conditions are still enabled though, with exception of Space Race, so you have to avoid getting another type of victory (and of course prevent the AIs from winning).
Pholk's right. We can back-door this bear, if we want.
pholkhero Jul 14, 2006, 06:15 PM Pholk's right. We can back-door this bear, if we want.I think you can find where I laid that strategy out in at least the first couple dozen posts of the game :goodjob: :p

Like anyone would remember six months ago.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 14, 2006, 06:36 PM So do we have a got-it? Anyone who can play tonight say-so. I'm the only one not allowed.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 15, 2006, 11:10 AM Still no got-it. We really need to keep this moving guys. Paul, if you're still here, don't be ashamed to say something.
pholkhero Jul 15, 2006, 02:27 PM I've got it. Will play soon today/tonight.

At this point, i revolted us to Representation to complement our running of mercantilism.
On the battle front, 2 grens and a mace take out Corihua...
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4034/corihuavo1.jpg
t02/1616:
Replacable Parts come in, and i head for Rifling for the Riflemen; nothing too subtle there.
Here's the Plan i've got for the rest of my turns.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6140/theplanln5.jpg
this was made the same turn the defenses fell at Tiwanaku by Frigate; our grens go 4 for 4, but we must wait for more units to take the city.
t03/1619:
On the homefront, many builds are done this turn. I start Colosuems across the empire due to unhappiness. Later, I'll build our cheap theatres (semi-UU) and raise the culture rate, too, to combat WW.
Thebes: Grenadier > Coloseum;
Memphis: Gren > Gren;
Rostov: Frigate > Colos;
Petro: Observatory > Grocer;
Moscow: Theatre > Colos;
Yekater: Forge > library;
I also set out the main attack on Tiwanaku and had not one loss . . . unfortunately, due to a misclick, i didn't take it.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5009/misclickmo3.jpg
Notice the knight east of the city? :( I was ONE unit short this turn. One. A wounded Incan catapult awaits reinforcement.
t04/1622:
The city is reinforced, but only barely. 2 grens and a knight go in and the city is ours:

I agree since we most likely may go there next.
Also, the siege of Vilcas begins as most of our troops have amassed there. The change in direction allowed our healing units to catch up, too.

11 units are at Cuzco, but we've got a total of 15, counting incoming reinforcements. I don't heal my units, but push back south. they heal as the reinforcements catch up. Both ready in 3 turns ~ nice!
t12/1646:
Rostov: Col > theatre; Rifling > Mil Trad for trades and units.

The attack comes on the IT. A suicide cat followed by an assault. We lost 2 grens for their 3 other units. Not a very good trade. Most units will only take a turn to heal from the collateral damage which was the only real damage sustained, so we wait.
t18/1664:
Memp: Gren > Riflemen; 2 wounded enemy units are left after the Second Battle of Cuzco.

And on the 3rd day, it fell:

The army is healing in Cuzco. The back of the enemy has been broken with the Fall of Cuzco and the Incan army; the rest is now mop-up.
Aretas III (GM) is born @ Moscow. He'll give 1689 beakers for Econ, but maybe a trade mission to GW??
Mil Tradition comes in 4 and so far it seems no one's got it.

Quack, just go ahead and finish off hc
Quack: UP NOW
Other People: on deck
Pholk: just played.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 16, 2006, 08:30 AM I say we keep the war engine churnin'. If we get actual domination before we build the UN, great. Otherwise, backdoor. Though with Gandhi's high pop, it'll be tough to get actual domination without taking out everybody but him.
Good job, Pholk.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 16, 2006, 04:41 PM So Qwack, you're playing today, right?
Qwack Jul 16, 2006, 06:09 PM yes im about to play them right now. I have 2 other sgs also though :(.
Qwack Jul 16, 2006, 07:42 PM turns completed. To keep it simple, im very pissed off right now.... On my last turn I lost 3 frigates to 1 frigate. It was 32.4% odds for the first one, 86% odds for the second one, and 96% odds for the third one, all of them lost, and then I lost a grenadiar to a rifleman at 89% odds. So I decided to stop. Other than that, good progress. I started west point, made a trade to pick up economics and then burned our merchant on corporation. Our economic situation has improved a bit...
Research is set on biology now because Gandhi doesnt have it yet and probably wont prioritize it. It can seriously help us improve our science situation by making some good trades..

Great work, guys !!! I had a chance to access the Inet today and watched our progress now. I'm very pleased with your efforts ! Keep it rollin' guys, I'll be back on Sunday !

Talamane Jul 17, 2006, 05:31 PM Go ahead Rex, and give that Mac a workout. :)
Rex Tyrannus Jul 17, 2006, 05:42 PM Okay, maybe a change in plans. I'm rather ill today. On weekdays, I can only play after the kids go to sleep. I might not make it tonight. I'll see. If anyone wants to grab it, feel free.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 17, 2006, 08:46 PM Okay, I've played a few turns. We're no longer locked into war with anybody. :)
Rex Tyrannus Jul 17, 2006, 09:09 PM I played to 1730. It was only seven turns, but both the year and turn count are now round numbers. Don't know where we got off.
Anyhow, HC is dead and I realized just how bad his lands are. Yuck. The other important happenings are that I signed a defensive pact with Gandhi. The choice of America vs Gandhi still haunts me. Gandhi's power is through the roof, but we're safe from him no matter what. I probably should have chosen America. Oh well. We'll attack Sally and Cyrus and that will cancel our DP with India anyway.
Biology came in and I went for Democracy, for emancipation. When the war ended, I turned culture down to 0% (science at 70), but Elephantine has five unhappiness for emancipation. Everyone else has it.
I tried some trading. We have a monopoly on Military Tradition, but the best I could get for it is divine right. No trades made.
We have about 25 workers too many. I suggest making railroad a priority. Even still, we might want to disband a few.
Lastly, a great artist was born in Elephantine. I didn't use him.

pholkhero Jul 18, 2006, 08:00 AM nice going, Rex. HC is down the tubes ~ i say we get ready for Arabia...or would hte group prefer Cyrus?
Lastly, a great artist was born in Elephantine. I didn't use him.
any idea what tech he can pop for us?
Rex Tyrannus Jul 18, 2006, 08:37 AM Arabia will be the easier target, which might be reason enough to attack Cyrus first. Arabia will always be behind us, but Cyrus is probably getting stronger every turn.
Incidentally, anyone who thinks we should take on America ought to know they have infantry.
The tech the artist can lightbulb is divine right. :(
pholkhero Jul 18, 2006, 11:07 AM Here's a preliminary plan to stimulate discussion.
1. Conquer Arabia while, more or less, beelining to Mass Media and the UN.
2. Build UN, gift US ex-arabian cities to make them our competition rather than Gandhi, and then we vote.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 18, 2006, 11:16 AM Another note. Last I checked, we only had about 28% of the world's population. Now, with the UN vote it's only the city-size number that counts. In other words, two size-one cities are worth the same as one size-two city.
So, if we want UN, let's settle every last nook and cranny in our empire. Oh, and remove the specialists sometime before we get mass media. Pop will be important. Of course, we probably will never have enough to back-door dominate, so maybe Pholk's idea of getting America to be our opponent and having Gandhi vote for us will be smart.
I'm not sure we can push America up over India, though. India's up around 25%, too.
·Imhotep· Jul 18, 2006, 11:39 AM What about that ? We attack Cyrus - that should be an easier logistic task because he is right next to us. Meanwhile we bribe Gandhi into a war with America. After taking out Cyrus we then can take out Arabia. Hopefully Gandhi loses a few cities in the war. Remember that gifting cities to the US won't work well with the UN votes: As it gives us trade with worst enemies penalties Gandhi might lower his opinion of us quite quick and vote for himself. We should end this through blodshed.
·Imhotep·
Rex Tyrannus Jul 18, 2006, 02:59 PM With what shall we bribe India, Mr. Timmy? We have nothnig. I suppose we could turn the sliders down to zero (that's nill for all you fruits out there) and pay him with gold. That might work but it cuts our own nose off to spite our face.
So who's got it next? Bueller? Bueller?
pholkhero Jul 18, 2006, 03:27 PM Okay, i'm not sure Im's idea would work. Even if we could get the US and India to fight, i'm not sure this would work in our favor. If we can take out Arabia, gift almost ALL those cities to the US (that continent IS pretty big), that should put them above India for pop. IF we have to, we can give him Biology, too. With GW as our opponent, Gandhi as our perpetual peacenik, and Cyrus as our coreligionist, we should do alright by straight diplo.
edit: Talamane is UP!
Rex Tyrannus Jul 18, 2006, 03:42 PM Well then, by Pholk's logic, we've as good as won. Nice bit of blue sky there, Pholk, but those of us who live in the real world think it might go a bit tougher than that. Would America even accept all those cities? Personally, I'd rather have all that pop voting for us, than for him. I just don't see the advantage to gifting a bunch of cities.
My vote goes for warring against Cyrus, then against Arabia, then building. Maybe we can eek out a diplo win by 1945.
pholkhero Jul 18, 2006, 06:31 PM well, i think it WILL be that simple, but we can debate the particulars later, but for now, since we both agree on arabia, we should make it the next target.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 18, 2006, 07:50 PM Wait, I thought I voted for Cyrus as the next target.
pholkhero Jul 18, 2006, 08:20 PM you said you'd like to take out both and since my plan only calls for Sally, we should take out Sally and then assess the situation at that point. Another thing to do besides gifting is to keep cities near his border that are sure to flip to him, and also to raze some cities so that he'll send out some settlers.
I think my plan gives use the chance to get done faster, and i'm all for that :goodjob:
Talamane?
Qwack Jul 18, 2006, 09:33 PM Pholkheroines brain finally worked. Good thinking, I like the plan! But we have to make sure we can get to mass media and build UN fast enough, so gandhi doesnt run away with the spaceship...
Rex Tyrannus Jul 19, 2006, 07:28 PM Turns? turns? Turns for the poor?
Talamane Jul 19, 2006, 10:32 PM OK, got it. I will take a look at the save and post any questions or observations tomorrow night.
If nothing serious, i will play 10 turns and post.
Talamane Jul 20, 2006, 03:46 PM Hmm, what's the plan at this point?
Rex Tyrannus Jul 20, 2006, 03:51 PM Build up a military strong enough to take out Saladin. Attack if you think we're ready.
pholkhero Jul 20, 2006, 04:39 PM yeah, see the debate Rex and I had regarding our future in the above posts, but Sally is the next target for annexation.
Talamane Jul 20, 2006, 09:52 PM Okey dokey. :mischief:
Talamane Jul 20, 2006, 11:32 PM Since we have all of one cat left, i opted for steel after demo. Revolted to emancipation. We should revolt to US as well.
Built a few cavs and shipped them towards our new lands. Shuttling a galleon from Tiwanaku back to our lands. Started some forges in our new lands.

pholkhero Jul 21, 2006, 09:53 AM Hopefully GW won't hook up Sally with Assembly Line (or hasn't already) before or during the attack.
AFter Steel, i think a beeline (or relative beeline) to Assembly is in order. Also, rereading the reports, i seems like we have TWO unused GPs?? Aretas III born in my set, and Rex had a GA. was this the one you used Talamane or was another one born?

pholkhero Jul 21, 2006, 04:25 PM i got it. will play soon, report to follow.
Talamane Jul 21, 2006, 05:38 PM It was Rex's GA:
Turn 378, 1724 AD: Valmiki has been born in Heliopolis!
pholkhero Jul 21, 2006, 05:54 PM Ahh..forgot we had one, but i didn't see them anyway, so i figured we used them anyhow. There's not much to report. We were building up our forces and such, but i'll post more in a few hours.
pholkhero Jul 21, 2006, 07:40 PM Short and sweet:
disbanded some workers; went Steel>Steam Power> Assembly Line (1 turn into it); cuzco goes on emph food for now. Gandhi trades us Hit Music for a Spice as Sally cancels our deal; Detroit revolts and joins our empire, and I'm building many units on the Egyptian isle. We have a small contingent of troops @ San Francisco with several more galleons on the way and a few more units back home ready to come over. We need more canons.
have a good weekend. and So Sorry So Short :goodjob:

pholkhero Jul 23, 2006, 06:15 PM Technically, you're not up ~ Rex and Imhotep are before you, so if you can't play until tomorrow, maybe someone else can grab it?
Talamane >
Pholkhero > just played
Rex >
Imhotep >
Quack >
Rex Tyrannus Jul 23, 2006, 09:50 PM Wait, how am I up? Qwack hasn't played in a long while, if I'm not mistaken. Let him play, I say.
pholkhero Jul 24, 2006, 07:36 AM You're up b/c we only had 3 other available players, and Quack just played before Talamane, who I played after, and who played right after you made your return.
I don't care who plays, but if someone could throw up some turns before Quack is able to (see his "24 hours or more" post), that would be fine w/me. My thought was that you would play this weekend, (but i see that you were OoP anyway) and Imhotep would pick it up after, but he should probably play before you at this point.
Talamane >
Pholkhero > just played
Quack > PLAYING?
Imhotep > on deck
Rex >
Rex Tyrannus Jul 24, 2006, 12:43 PM You're up b/c we only had 3 other available players, and Quack just played before Talamane, who I played after, and who played right after you made your return.
uh uh. I just checked it out. Qwack played, then I did, then Tally, then you. Sos either the the Poopman or the Kraut is up. Whichever is fine with me.
Edit: I don't know if we've all seen the sign-up for SGOTM 2, but I'm going to bow out of that one. Sorry, I just don't find competitive SG compelling enough.
pholkhero Jul 24, 2006, 02:36 PM ah well, wouldn't be the first time i'm wrong; won't be the last. again, as long as SOMEbody is playing, i'm not too concerned (countdown to end: 2 weeks ~ can we try for 2 rotations in that time guys?)
i did see the sign up for that, but i'd rather do another AW game with any of you who'd like to join it.
pholkhero Jul 24, 2006, 10:12 PM as long as SOMEbody is playing, i'm not too concerned *cough, cough* somebody??
·Imhotep· Jul 25, 2006, 02:17 AM Well, technically Qwack has posted a got it, so it is his game. Shouldn't be too big a thing to play for him now that RB19 has finished ;) . If he hasn't posted turns due to 14:00 Western Europe Time I'll grab it and play 20.
·Imhotep·
·Imhotep· Jul 25, 2006, 07:23 AM Got it, playing now...
·Imhotep· Jul 25, 2006, 08:28 AM It's been a terrible long while since I had this game. Things have changed since then and look really attractive. I spent nearly 15 minutes to get comfortable with the present situation. Then I plunged in...
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/9747/1xt0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Saladin came up first and said that he wouldn't kill any more furry things and send them over in exchange for some raw meat off the bone. I guess he joined the PETA Alliance, which is in all aspects a good thing.
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/5761/2sl5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Then those Americans walked in, saying that their city is all about dirt and wheels and such things and they'd rather love to be cow herds down in the meadows near the Nile. Jerks.
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/1516/3az5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I thought I had enough of Americans for now but their leader walked into my door right after his fellas and said he needed some stones for giving those traitors a warm welcome back in the good ol' states. Granted.
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/2816/5ny9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Apparently the Egypts are not doing so bad - if one should believe Lord McCauley that 187 gold is indeed "wealth"...
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4462/6my5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
This American guy showed up again. He urged us to do something. Beware you fool, you speak to the Pharao ! We do not obey to urges. We cut off heads instead...
·Imhotep· Jul 25, 2006, 08:42 AM Admirable Lord McCauley's survey had indeed brought up the question of finances. A quick talk to the financial guy down in his new villa Downtown Thebes revealed that we were paying lots of gold due to being acknowledged as pacifists. He said it has something to do with lower taxes for the people so that they can emerge into great persons. . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. War is brewing. We need Theocracy ! So after a Great Scientist was born and built an Academy in lovely Heliopolis I ordered that change, giving Memphis the opportunity to build Level 4 units right out of the gate.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4148/7wa3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Factories and Infantry - the warmonger's heart rejoices !
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/7413/8lc4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Unfortunately Gandhi already snugged the Pentagon. And I would have liked a building with five corners so much.
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/8377/10uo4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Talking of Gandhi - he came in and said we were cool if we would adopt Universal Suffrage. Sure, buddy. Surprisingly it didn't affect research but made lots of cities stronger in hammers. Good call, don't you think ? (hides sword behind his back)
As for the brewing war: I have assembled some toys to play with for the next guy.
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/2494/11bw2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Have fun, one more Galleon is on the way down there.
As for the cities: On our homecontinent I've ordered up Factories everywhere. Thebes then should finish Ironworks (in queue with 10 turns left on it).
Space Race is disabled, for those who didn't notice. Should be an easy walk in and out the ballpark.
Turn 400, 1770 AD: Antoine Laurent Lavoisier has been born in Heliopolis!
Turn 401, 1772 AD: Queens Men adopts Theocracy!
Turn 401, 1772 AD: Thebes celebrates "We Love the Prime Minister Day"!!!
Turn 402, 1774 AD: Thebes celebrates "We Love the Prime Minister Day"!!!
Turn 402, 1774 AD: Gandhi has completed The Pentagon!
Turn 405, 1780 AD: Wilhelm Schickard has been born in Seattle!
Turn 406, 1782 AD: Memphis celebrates "We Love the Prime Minister Day"!!!
Turn 406, 1782 AD: You have constructed a Lighthouse in Vilcabamba. Work has now begun on a Harbor.
Turn 407, 1784 AD: You have discovered Assembly Line!
Turn 407, 1784 AD: Memphis celebrates "We Love the Prime Minister Day"!!!
Turn 407, 1784 AD: A Egyptian revolt has taken place in Aden!
Turn 409, 1788 AD: The borders of Ollantaytambo have expanded!
Turn 410, 1790 AD: Queens Men adopts Universal Suffrage!

pholkhero Jul 25, 2006, 11:21 AM Looks good. Let's cross our fingers and hope quack sees the turns before he plays :) Hotey ~ was the small stack i had transported to San Francisco still there??
·Imhotep· Jul 25, 2006, 12:10 PM Looks good. Let's cross our fingers and hope quack sees the turns before he plays :) Hotey ~ was the small stack i had transported to San Francisco still there??
Well that would be of course his fault, not mine :D . He is over the standard SG deadline anyway by now. :goodjob:
If S.F. is located in the uttermost East on the remnants of the former Incan realm I have taken that stack and already shipped it. I took some units out of Incan aquisitions and sent them down to the Arabian borders. I guess the next player can start launching the attack already, there will be 5 or 6 cannons and the other stuff you see on the shot at hand.
I would prefer playing safe and wait for some of the factories and the Ironworks at Thebes finishing - it would delay war for another 15 turns but would then let the war machine roar louder and more fiercely at the very beginning.
As far as SGotM 2 is concerned I'm definitely not going to play it. This very SGotM 1 here has buried the affection to the format for me. I feel strongly that I'm disappointed with the game we were playing here - not only as a team, but also in general. The variant and the map were good, but all that stalling we had drove any thriving spirit out of it. In the beginning I was anxious and eager to see new turns and the reports but now I'm at a stage were it does not bother me any more. We had such delays that nearly all the interest left me.
This is of course no one's fault (given most of the reasons and circumstances why we suffered these delays) and I don't blame anybody on the team. I moreover guess that it has something to do with our team's appeal to this SGotM. I think we were all in high spirits from our really brilliant RotQM SG but found very soon that this game here was in no single way a close match to it. I've the notion that all of us lost interest and focus on some point - the heavier the longer this journey lasted. It has of course something to do with the format - the laurel race was never attractive to me and couldn't kindle the fire needed for any true competition, most desirable in the competition you share with your teammates and the lurkers.
Having that said I do apologize for not contributing the way I might have, but there was no spirit left - or desire for - any great report that might have come with the great Egypt Civilization (which I really like and adore) as background.
I dearly like all of you guys (even Rex and Pholky :D ;) ) and would be pleased to play a Warlords Sequel to our Queen Mother thing - if you don't cut my head off after this posting and send me into the void.

first things first: San Fran is in America, in the north of the conitnent there. There were some cavs and grens hanging out, but they were fortified so you might not've noticed them. I was thinking we could launch our attack from the safety of America since there aren't many coastal cities to bombard w/our frigates. We can make a quick beeline to Mecca from America, though we'd need to take out one other city to get there. But that should be no problem!!
secondly, i agree on the SGOTM front. I think a lot of what you said was spot on, to be honest. Whatever the reason, this SG is really a drag, though now that we're moving forward and fighting it out, it's picked up some. No worries on the being cast into the Void. You'll be cast into Happy Little Wonderland (TM) ;)
At this point, i just want to end the game ASAP and move on to a sequel to RotQM. Not sure if we could do Warlords as *some* of us aren't allowed to buy it b/c he just got hisself a fancy new Mac :mischief: (sorry, cheap shot  )
Rex Tyrannus Jul 25, 2006, 03:20 PM My wife lets me buy computers. Yours lets you buy a $30 software package the day it ships. Care to reasses your argument?
Roger, Timmy. Agree on all.
Qwack Jul 25, 2006, 11:59 PM Ok turns completed. I made some weed moves though :D. But considering we are going for the wooden spoon, its all good! :D
One thing though, I noticed this. Theres no reason to decline civic change request, especially when we are spiritual. We can switch out of the civic 5 turns later and its a +1 modifier rather than a -1. I usually consider it lucky when someone asks me to change civics, free relations boost. Just something to consider next time..
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/5710/civ4screenshot0066hn7.th.jpg (http://img50.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0066hn7.jpg)
Anyways, with the nice little stack Imhotep has assembled (the same one ill destroy over this turnset) I declare was on Saladin.
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/2764/civ4screenshot0067qm5.th.jpg (http://img50.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0067qm5.jpg)
I capture eden with a grenadiar and catupult, unforuntely it has no culture so its automatically razed. I also captured Anjar a couple of turns later... I immedietely gift it to roosevelt, following pholkheriones plan,. and also so saladin cant recapture the city. Good stuff :goodjob:
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/2764/civ4screenshot0067qm5.th.jpg (http://img50.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0067qm5.jpg)
And now the weed starts. Saladin catches me by surprise with this stack here.... an we have swordsmen and axeman defending our cities. Oh crap.
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/5664/civ4screenshot0071xm5.th.jpg (http://img50.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ4screenshot0071xm5.jpg)
Well, one city is going to be destroyed. I decide to upgrade the sword in novgorad since that was clearly the better city. Unforuntely our southern city is destroyed, we should probably get a settler down there soon. [pimp]
Also made a trade with cyrus to pick up railroad and liberalism. Ive set research on communism for state property. Our first offensive stack was destroyed, but theres another one nearby which can take that tundra city.

Qwack Jul 26, 2006, 01:49 AM well im probably going to join SGOTM 2. I can understand some of you guys feelings considering how slow this game has went, but I cant shy away from some competitive civ4 SG's ;).
Rex Tyrannus Jul 26, 2006, 06:47 AM Very well. So we lost a city, is the enemy stack still in tact? I'll play tonight.
pholkhero Jul 26, 2006, 02:22 PM D'oh! I remember looking at those cities during my set thinking that we should do something about that. Oh well.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 26, 2006, 07:53 PM Okay, about to play.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 26, 2006, 07:55 PM Or not. Can anyone grab the save? Seems the progress page and the link in Qwack's report both give 404 errors. I'll try back soon-ish, but if I can't get it by 9:30 or so, I won't be able to play tonight.
Talamane Jul 27, 2006, 01:13 AM Although somewhat negative, i am willing to try a SGOTM one more time.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 27, 2006, 08:38 PM Turns played. Report forthwith.
Rex Tyrannus Jul 27, 2006, 09:13 PM Well, I picked this up, all ready for some ass-whoopin'. We're at war with Saladin, a technologically |
